Despite the objections of the maester overseeing him, Daeron was ready to go home. He missed the normalcy of his life at Kingsbridge and was pining to be gone from the Black Tourney and its stench. Laden down with his winnings, he had the wisdom to at least keep his sword and shield by his side, and to wear his breastplate. There had been stories of knights being preyed upon in the aftermath of tournaments by highwaymen or bandit knights, and given their small group he had no intention to become a victim.
They had a long way home and plenty of time for conversation.
"I am glad Sers to be done with this tournament and its scandals. I don't think there has ever been such a tragic gathering of men, outside of war that is."

The Black Tourney had been good been good to Addam. A few weeks ago, he had arrived at Highgarden a no one, and 12 days later, he became a hero. Dressed in fine leathers and cloak made of silk dyed sea-green, riding the white filly he had won from Lord Fossoway's stock, he hardly looked like the lowly knight he was and more like the son of some high lord.
"I don't know cousin, save for the actions of a few individuals and families, I found it to be a rather splendid event. There was glory to be won, wealth to be earned, and women aplenty. What more could a man want?"

He concedes a grin to Ser Addam.
"Well not everyone left as healthy as 'Lucky Ser Addam', 'Ser Roland the Righteous', or 'Ser Daeron Wildfyre', but it does seem that House Starling did manage to earn its fair share of fame and fortune. We stood up to a mighty and foul lord multiple times, then saved him, had both champions of the Equestrian event. The Hero of the Rosewood was from our ranks, as was a melee captain and joust runner-up. Not counting half a dozen other acts of heroism, courage, and skill, I'd say that we lived up to the standards of the Companions."

As with other conversations, Roland seemed more inclined to the Great Bastard's views than Ser Addams. That and his customary air of self-righteousness.
"We have in the main lived up to the traditions of House Starling and of that we can be proud, even if I must take Ser Daeron's side on how the history books remember this."
Roland's mind flashed to the horrors of the riot, an unholy mess of limbs and desperation unlike any battle he had fought in. He shook his head at the thought and touched his seven pointed star necklace to ward off evil.
"I fear we may not have seen the last of Lord Piggy and the vermin that serve him."
None of Roland's usual piousness or etiquette, there was little doubt that his contempt for Lord Merryweather and his sworn swords would endure beyond winning Alicent Yronwood's hand away from him.

“Aye, but he’s made many a foe these last weeks and lost a number of his own supporters. Most knights of worth will think twice before taking up service at Longtable, but I can think of a few unexpected blackguards who might.
I had heard little of Ser Imry Levalle, but I am shocked by his treatment of his lovely wife. It must take a truly horrid man to bring Lady Ashara and Ser Balon together.
Ser Symon Starkwood surprised me with his hot blooded murder of the Scorpionbane, assault on Lady Tanda, and, of the rumors are true, rape of Lady Alicent Florent. It seems that he takes after his grandfather, Lord Brandon moreso than his own father. A shame. It seems that he’s dedicated to fulfilling the negative stereotypes surrounding his people.”

Addam merely waved his hand at Roland's pessimistic comments "I choose not to let the actions of the False Septon, Symon Starkwood, or those of the same mind as them ruin my experience. I am afraid that my might be right about Lord Piggy though. If the Spongeholder gets his way, The wealth and glory to be gain from a wedding tourney such as theirs would tempt even the most stoic among the companions." "You forget about his actions towards Lady Perrianne as well. I had to escort her home myself after his lewd suggestion made my lady fear for her safety.( Am I lying?: 4d6k3+1 13) It seems being rewarded for his past deeds had only embolden him." His last statement clearly directed at Roland.

Roland nodded at Ser Daeron's words.
"I owe Ser Imry a drubbing after the melee, and at least now I can be assured it is in a righteous cause. Do we know the facts of the matter? I do not always agree with opinions of courtiers, but Lady Asahara is a woman of virtue, of this we can all agree. She would have been a blessing to House Cordwayner had her marriage gone ahead, although I suspect my bastard brother's disgrace in his duel has put paid to that matter.
As ever, the mention of Symon Starkwood brought a frown to Roland's face.
"The man is a not worthy of his vows, you will find little disagreement on that score from me. Even getting him to quit the field was harder than corralling a quarter of Fossoway chargers."
"Ser Daeron and Lady Laena impressed upon me the need for guidance, and I do not regret offering such."
"It would not grieve me to find myself opposed to him in a melee or joust. I could take back the sword even though it is of lesser worth than a horse and mount and still consider myself to have come ahead in the exchange!"
Roland seemed less convinced by Addam's protestations of innocence than he might have before the Black Tourney, but he spoke with a smile rather than severity for the moment. His naivety and trusting nature was just one of the many casualties of Highgarden's horrors.
"Are we to take it that you mean to make a wife of Lady Perianne then? The servants had you for a couple, and while sampling the goods ahead of taking vows may invite Septon Abelar's wrath we can have you safely married to her while he is otherwise occupied at Oldtown."
[OOC: Roland Dislikes Symon Starkwood but is no longer Naive so the combination of his less trusting nature and the evidence of the Almanac rumour makes Roland at best semi-convinced of Addam's story.]

Addam snorted at the mention of Ashara's virtue. Always the fool.
"Ah, Ser Roland the Counselor. What's your next piece of guidance? Give the rapist a golden cock and make a figurine out of his old one? They played you for a fool and you keep dancing to their tune. You're no better then the rapist in thinking Lady Perianne would give up the maidenhead before she was wed." The dragonblood in Addam flared. "These servants you quote also said it was Ser Irmy that took her to bed. Ser Imry, with short, golden hair, got confused for me, with my long, silver hair. I think that's all the evidence you need to know these rumors are false."

Daeron couldn’t help but give a snort of laughter at Addam’s suggestion of a “golden cock” being presented to Symon, but otherwise keeps his mouth shut. He was enjoying the back and forth too much, and even though Ser Roland was a good man, and a friend, the Targaryen in him couldn’t help but enjoy seeing a bit of rust on his armor so to speak.

Roland's temper was up initially, but Daeron's snorted laughter somewhat undercut the moment, and Roland followed him with fuller laughter.
He waved off Addam's protests with a smile.
"A woman need not give up her maidenhead to reward the hero of the Rosewood, no? I am no jurist, but if I were the very specificity of your defence would be my first line of inquiry."
While adhering to strict personal discipline in the main, Roland was little stranger to this kind of banter from time on campaign.
"Credit to you if you managed to tilt with her or any other young lady. If I had been in your place it would have been like taking a sausage to a quintain. You drank enough to drown a dragon!"

Addam glared Roland, pissed that he just laughed off the issue at hand. But soon the glare turned into a sly grin. "Enough to kill the Black Dread twice over to be honest."
He relax a little, returning to enjoying the ride and the company on hand. "Besides I would never dishonor Lady Delia Hewett by sleeping with another before our wedding night."

"Well said, well said! Lord Hewett's wrath is best avoided - the man is a war-hero."
"I confess I do not know the Hewett ladies well - you should make a handsome pair with her dark hair alongside your Valyrian colouring. Does she harp or sing?"
"Let us keep an eye out for Ser Symon in the lists - you have convinced me to chastise him with my lance."

By now Daeron was giving a full-hearted laughter at the back and forth between the two men. It was a promising sign that in spite of the divisions threatening to divide the kingdom, that the Kingsbridge Companions would weather the storm as a unified band of brothers. Right?
"There is hope for the man I pray, but sometimes it takes a good ass-kicking for lessons to really sink in. A tyro like Imry Levalle could use such a 'lesson' as well. Gods know that he has somehow sullied the Levalle name even more."
