In a much less prestigious contest, the squire's joust, Lord Tyrell's youngest son and the local favorite, squire to the Breakspear himself faces yet another Blackbriar, the third son of Ser Donnel, and no less of a talented jouster than his father and brothers, given his age. Both are too young to take on such responsibilities as would be expected of a knight, but they both have demonstrated that they are more than capable of riding in such esteemed company as was found in the larger competition. They both exhibit stellar horsemanship in the match to lay claim to the bragging rights now that Ser Preston Oakheart's dominance at the squire's lists have been brought to an end by his recent knighting, but an unlucky aim by Martyn in the third pass sees him miss cleanly, perhaps a sign that he is not yet truly ready to face grown men, and young Vortimer emerges victorious. There was a good five years between Titus and his younger brother, but that hasn’t stopped him from knocking Wart around on the training grounds under father’s supervision more than once. “Best way to learn” father used to say, and it had clearly payed off.
He knew Wart was talented but had not expected him to advance this far and it is with pride he cheers to the Blackbriar’s victory.

With his own squire having been knocked out relatively early, Roland watched the final alongside Hugh and Titus, cheering when Vortimer emerged victorious.
"We shall have to match Redweynes against Blackbriars to see which family has the Realm's finest lances!"
It went without saying that the best lance in the Reach was the best in the whole Seven Kingdoms.
"Titus, do you think you or your father will knight Vortimer now? I have oft seen such done with the victor of the squire's joust, even at smaller affairs than this one."

"Maybe" he chuckled at the notion, Balon must have felt the same after Titus' wins. "But he's still young and this is but his first win. It wasn't until after my third one - at Horn Hill where father finally did it." he smiled at the memory "He's a thorough man, Ser Donnel. Besides, I think my brother will join me at Starpike so I'd imagine either Lord Gormon, or perhaps Ser Horas Redwyne will finish his training and decide when he is worthy." he scoffs and folds his arms with a raised eyebrow "But he's not *that* good." A younger brother will always be a younger brother.
