Fresh from triumphing in "The Song of Roland", Roland looked forward to his match with Ser Titus Blackbriar.
The young knight was clearly his father come again in both prowess and temperament - this would be a worthy match indeed!
He dipped his lance to Janna Hightower and kicked his mount in to a charge once more.
[OOC: Have added tactics to personal forum, shall we wait until Tuesday to start posting on this to give people time to place bets/launch schemes as suggested by our narrator?]

As both knights prepared for their match Titus rode up to the middle of the lists where he was met by Roland. Removing his gauntlet he extend his arm across the bar and shook the forearm of his opponent. "Best of luck, Ser." This was a fight for the Final but also a match between two friends. Titus considered himself more than lucky for having made it this far and was going to cherish every moment of it.
Bringing Honour around, he trots back to his end of the lists with an arm raised to the crowd and as always, the Lady Daena.

[OOC: Tuesday, yes. Unless Narrator/other players think even later would be better? Three Rounds per post or separate?]

Roland grasped Titus's forearm.
"You likewise. Between the four of us, we've already made this a victory for the Reach."
It was the best that could be said for the ill-starred tournament.
[OOC: Happy with 3 rounds per post and agree - Tuesday, with a pause if somebody goes "wait, I have a zany scheme to launch!"]

Roland's opening passes were steady rather than spectacular - it would be a keenly contested match, worthy of the late stages of the tournament. D9 SF 3x: N, EF;SiS;CyB: 3#7d6k4+8 25 25 22 3#6d6k4+1 23 14 17 6d6k4 18

After three passes both knights still held their seat but Titus' lances had not been as well placed as Ser Roland's and in the final, third pass it looked as if he was to miss completely.

For the first two passes the two knights where evenly matched, and whilst you could tell Roland was a more experienced jouster Titus had delivered enough upsets this tournament to keep the audience on their toes - expecting a long match.
In the third pass, however the young Blackbriar knight, perhaps from simple nerves, misses his opponent cleanly whilst Roland again lands a solid blow.
Titus remains in his seat but the Tourney Master grants Ser Roland the victory, bringing an end to the young knight’s unexpected advancement at the Field of Roses.
No man enjoys failure, and Titus frustrated, not from the loss but from the nature of it, knows that he will have to spend many more hours on the training grounds before he can call knights of Ser Roland’s caliber his equals.
None the matter as who to best lose to than a friend?

Roland raised what remained of his lance to Janna Hightower and her family, then cast the lance aside to salute Ser Titus from the saddle.
To reach the semi-final in such a field at his young age! Surely he shall surpass even his father in prowess, given but a few years.
The young man had provided upset after upset already, and it was with some relief that Roland avoided adding his name to the list. Doubtless Titus would rank among the favourites in future events. Lord Durwell was a shrewd man in Roland's experience and according to wiser men than he. Perhaps his natural born sister shared his discerning judgement when she chose Blackbriar's second son as to wear her favour? Titus had not just won himself great glory, but also increased Daena Flower's reputation and influence.
He called on Ser Titus personally to collect the ransom, noting he understood why Ser Titus could not serve alongside Roland and his father.
"Many men would say it is better to serve as a lieutenant to Ser Daemon Blackfyre himself than lead as captain. I envy you the opportunity. Warrior guide your arm in the melee."
After the joust, Hugh Blackwood was dispatched with a lacquered wooden box for Janna, Roland having spent the previous day researching apt gifts.
Inside was a beautiful jade comb all the way from Yi Ti, along with a hand-written note thanking her for the favour she had bestowed upon Roland, as it had given him the strength to reach the final.
The letter concluded:
.. Should my strength fail me in the final, know that the failing is mine and that it has been an honour to bear the favour of Lady Janna Hightower, your knight, Roland Cordwayner
[OOC:
-1,000SS for a superior Comb as a gift to Lady Janna Hightower, expense noted on Roland's private forum.
Comb is following up on previous rumour hunting/planting seeds for future poor life choices.]

How disappointed in his final performance he might be, Titus knows better than to let his personal frustration sour this moment. No one like a sore loser and there is no surer sign if unchivalry, so he smiles through it as the crowd applause Ser Roland and before leaving the lists Titus salutes his better and gives a deep bow to Lady Daena in the stands. Her favour had carried him further than he dared to dream, but no further. Had he disappointed her? Gaging Lady Daena’s Reaction - Awareness: 3d6 9
Titus is of much lighter mood when Roland visits him later in the day to return the ransom and receive his payment. Titus’ performance had not only brought fame and glory to him but House Blackbriar also and Lord Jon gladly payed the cost. It is with a broad smile he welcomes Roland. ”Maybe it is all a ploy to get my rematch against you, Ser. I’d wish you good luck but I doubt you need it.”

Roland smiled.
"I shall take the kind wishes nonetheless, and I suppose one of the things in the melee is the similarity to a real battle: a little luck helps in not being set upon while unawares or catching a misaimed or deflected blow on your helm. At Ashford one year Lord Tyrell axes deflected off his foe's shield and took him in the back of the head while I fenced with a second knight. It is the strangest way I have been defeated, but I have seen it happen to other men too."
"Do not hesitate to try your lance or sword against me should we have the chance Ser Titus - I hope we have many decades to write a rivalry for the ages."
He could not know it at the time, but even if he survived his duel with Ser Rennifer Waters, the injuries the beast inflicted would make any rematch a much more even affair.
[/scene for my part - as with lots of recent threads, sorry for neglecting this due to work then work trip and trying to tie this off in a satisfying manner.]
