They were deep in to the tourney now, and most of the remaining knights were famed champions. Ser Roland was familiar with Ser Tommard Heddle already from previously tournaments and had watched him closely at this event. This would be a tough match indeed - the man had been the champion of many small tournaments. Ser Tom had dispatched Roland's nephew, a knight of no little skill. The Seventh round - a holy number. Not just that, but a chance to prove myself over the rest of House Cordwayner, and perhaps even win through to a match against my bastard brother if the gods are kind.Roland dipped his lance to Janna Hightower once more and spurred his mount. Ser Tommard Heddle of the Riverlands is known as a fierce and deadly warrior, but also a man Roland should be considered the favorite against in the joust. Not so much in the melee.

Roland's first pass was strong, just falling short of being a truly resounding blow. R7 P1 N, EF, Agg 1;SiS;CyB: 7d6k4+9 27 6d6k4+1 20 6d6k4 17PR: 20 (21) AR: 10 Health: 12/12

On his first tilt, Ser Tommard's lance misses cleanly, he angrily throws it away before calming himself and preparing for an uphill battle. N+EF: 6d6k4+5 15 6d6k4 21 4d6 16Heightened Stakes coming up next.

By the Seven a great stroke of fortune. Roland attempted to take advantage of Ser Tom's miss - if you could strike cleanly from here he had a good chance of taking the victory. R7 P2 N, EF, Brace;SiS;CyB: 7d6k4+6 25 6d6k4+4 18 6d6k4 17PR: 21 AR: 10 Health: 12/12

Roland had prevailed, with the skill to force a victory after his opponent's unusual mistake gave him an opening. His shattered lance was thrown aside in triumph.
He dismounted to check on Ser Tommard, then bowed to Lady Janna Hightower. She had taken a risk in allowing him to bear her favour, and he was relived to have repaid her faith by winning through to the quarterfinals.
Few would remember the Tourney of the Field of Roses for the jousting, but he still felt a degree of pride at having won through to the quarterfinal in such a field.
