Abelar has to spend a good bit of the evening walking around the keep trying to find her, but he finally alights on Lady Mya Rivers among Highgarden's many halls.
"My Lady, could I beg a word?"
After the two have removed themselves from the prying ears of any passersby, Abelar clears his throat. "I must admit I was disappointed at the course of events that your accusations regarding Denyse Cordwayner set in motion." He pauses for a moment, wanting her to partly blame herself for leveling the charges, but also leaving open the possibility that Abelar is referring only to Ser Normyn's triumph over Ser Garth Redwyne. "You see, I have developed an interest in uneasy betrothals." He meets her gaze. "You must have one too, if you're willing to push Cordwayner to the brink."
The goals here are several. First, I want to know what she knows about the Cordwayners. Second, I want to scold her for leveling such public accusations. Third, Abelar wants to scold her for using her wiles to tempt knights during the mummer show (and perhaps elsewhere).
My strategy is to try and get her to try and flip me to the Blood side. I'm already most of the way there, but that's not particularly public. I also may know Cordwayner-related things she doesn't, so maybe we can both learn something.
This may or may not be an intrigue.

Where Abelar thought he had her attention, Lady Mya simply walks past him to join Lord Marq Durwell who had been coming up behind him for a walk, unchaperoned. Though it is possible that Lord Marq assumes that she had brought Abelar to fulfill that role and thus think nothing further of it. Though it feels as if he simply is one of the many silent statues that adorn Highgarden as far as Mya cared.

Without missing a beat, Abelar repeats his words to the next lady walking after Mya. "My lady, could I beg a word?"
This time, it's Alena Flowers. Another bastard, but one of low enough station that she won't breeze by. Besides, Abelar has business with Alena. She's known for dressing unchastely, and could do with a reminder of the importance of her virtues.

"Septon?" Of lower status she might be, but apparently not one to waste more words than necessary, and the septon is clearly not on the list of people she had an interest in meeting this evening. With her curves, even a conservatively cut gown would have drawn long looks from young men, while nowhere near as egregious as what she had worn during the parade, it was on the very edge of what was considered socially acceptable in the Reach. That still means that her "goods" are very much on display as if she is looking to peddle them to passersby.

Abelar averts his eyes from Alena's lithe form and turns to one side. "Come, walk with me." She'll be the end of some poor soul if I don't set her to rights. He begins to stroll down the hall, beside Alena. "I don't believe we've met before. I am Septon Abelar. Have you been schooled in the faith, Alena?"

"Ah yes, Septon Abelar, a well known name, though the tales claim that you had an odor of brimstone and eyes like smoldering fire" She almost sounds disappointed. "Of what interest is my schooling to you?"

Abelar offers a forced smile when she mentions his reputation. "Better to smell the brimstone in this life than swim in it in the next. Now, as to your schooling. I have noticed--as have others--that your attire is unbecoming of a young maiden. This is not the Street of Silk! The 'schooling' I speak of is the good sense to remain chaste and obviously so."

"Ah, yes, I have heard a few remarks" She shrugs. "But the seven pointed star is much less restrictive in it's opinion than those of septons and fathers" Technically correct, chastity is a virtue extolled in it, and desire of forbidden fruit itself is a sin, but even the strictest interpretations of the holy text only offers guidelines and recommendations as to what can be considered sufficiently modest, some septons of questionable piety have even suggested that these passages are merely practical advice. "As it happens, I am a bastard and no matter what I do, everyone will think me wanton, lustful and full of treachery and deceit. Better to make them focus on one thing so they forget to lay those other charges at my feet." For one so young, barely a woman grown, to talk with such confidence is surprising, some would consider it refreshing and impressive, others with great alarm at the independence this young lady seems to have claimed for herself.

For one so young, barely a woman grown, to talk with such confidence is surprising, some would consider it refreshing and impressive, others with great alarm at the independence this young lady seems to have claimed for herself. Abelar feels a great alarm rising inside of him, as well as a fair bit of rage. This young woman is far too willful. He does not interrupt Alena, but he cannot suppress a few sputters and facial twitches as Alena speaks airily of embracing lust to escape accusations of other sins. "Young lady, that is no way to speak! The Seven-Pointed Star tells you to obey your septons and your father! I could name a half-dozen learned tomes on the subject of chastity and lust--Resisting the Cock's Crow, Hell's Heaving Bosom, Observations of Skirts & Ankles in the Time of Aegon IV--and none of them urge a lady to speak as you do."
The septon, visibly agitated now, draws himself up to his full height. "When you say you 'focus' on being lustful, do you refer to your dress alone, or also your actions? Have you lain with a man!?" His hands fuss at robe, pulling it more tightly closed.

"I have not!" She answers sharply, placing a hand upon her chest in shock, clearly insulted that Abelar would even suggest that she had done such a thing, a highly common reaction, to ask such a question to a lady is practically to accuse her of infidelity. "Good day, Septon.Apparently she has no further interest in talking to him. Act: 6d6k4 20 In short she wants to invoke the feeling in Abelar that he stepped way over the line so that he'll step back and leave her alone. Roll should be good enough to make her reaction and claim to be chaste believable.

Abelar gapes for a moment as he struggles to suppress his desire to condemn her more vigorously. "As you say, Alena. But what did you expect me to think when you say you want others to focus on thinking you lustful?"Almost apologetic now, he throws a hand up. "I'm a septon, sworn to do the will of the Seven in the mortal realm. The thought of your virginal form in the hands of some scoundrel sets me spinning!"
I think her result (20 v. 18 passive Awareness (Empathy)) is enough to return Abelar's level of chastity-suspicion to normal, but Abelar's normal level of suspicion does not correspond to a straightforward belief that she is chaste. It's more like he's agnostic on the question, but assumes (based on dress and this conversation) that she has lustful designs and will likely act on them at one point or another. Alena makes no reply as she walks away from him, seeking other company that will not insult her so. The enticing curves of her backside that are clearly outlined by her gown could put the ability of even the most temperate to resist the allure of sinful thoughts.
