Lord Alliser sits quietly in the sept. He had spent many nights at the sept of Stone Habor, enjoying the sounds of smallfolk laughing and carousing through the thin walls. Here the quiet brought different sensation, smallfolk did not visit this sept often, and thus made for a much more somber atmosphere. He was dressed in a quilted silk doublet, at each corner of the quilting a small freshwater pearl was gracefully attached. Purely impractical garment, having the need for constant repair and replacement of the pearls, it nonetheless was elegant to view.
He sat waiting, staring up into the smooth face of the mother. Mindlessly fidgeting with one of the smooth pearls he waits, twisting it left, then right, then back again. A small reverent prayer on his lips as time passes by.

Ser Donnel is on his daily trip to the sept when he sees Lord Allister. Instead of interrupting his contemplation, ser Donnel got his own prayers out of the way, then waited outside for the lord to appear.
As Allister exits, Ser Donnel locks steps with him as they walk. "A fine day for prayers. It wa fortunate that no accidents befell the garrison during the mock battle! Swords are dangerous, no matter how blunt!"

Lord Alliser gives the old Knight a warm smile, if only my concerns were as simple as ensuring no one gets hurt with blunted sword's... a wistful look crosses his face, "I saw your orders, everything I saw was sound, but in honesty I don't think my mind is the best to read things on the battle field." He continues walking, admiring the green on the trees. "I was helping my Knight manage the train, as such did not see much in the way of fighting."
His pace slows, and after a quick glance to ensure that no one changes pace to match their own he continues, "I was not able to find any information about who might be behind the attack, even with a fine application of grease there was nothing to be found. That tells me that whomever did it has a place to hide away in Gardenton or the camps, and they were professionals."he sighs, "which is both frustrating and enlightening. It also means that there is a very good chance that whoever had the deed done keeps close confidence with the killers. It is likely that they may have even brought the poisoners with them to the tournament, intending and planning this attack out months in advance. I'm afraid there are no further leads that pull the strings on," Alliser looks apologetic. it is possible that Blood Raven is behind this, as it gives a convenient opportunity to rid the realm of someone who stirs trouble up in the reach. He also likely had the knowledge that such a party would be planned, thanks to his contacts, which would give him time to aquire the people and poison capable of ensuring the success of the plan. But given Donnell's nature and his declaring for the bloods, it is better to keep such speculations to myself... For now.
"I heard you were able to meet my son in law. He came back glowing like a women with child at having such a long conversation with the great Ser Donnell." He gives the old Knight a grin. "And that speech you gave really did set a heart pumping blood so." His smile rolled into a knowing one, "you are not the only man to have a son be enamored with bittersteel," His tone was lower. careful now "I know how hard it can be at times, sometimes, when my Ellyn was a child, she would refuse to brush her teeth as the Maester's told me to have her do, yet her nurse maid comes along?" He throws up his hands, "and she is on the bathroom before you can count to two." There was a mixture of wonder and exasperation in his voice in recounting the tale.

"My performance was sound, but not of a quality to be proud of, I will strive to improve. I may lack the aptitude for thoughtful tasks many elders aquire. But ad my swordarm vanes, I must find another way to serve the gods." He shrugs his shoulders, but ser Donnels eyes betray worry.
"I must admit I have been too preoccupied with other matters to give much thought to the assassins, I am sure you have heard about my sons? I struggle to find out what to do with them. But the spies having gone to ground is a dangerous sign. If the spies will not be unearthed easily, we must assume they will be used again, otherwise they would have been killed and their bodies dumped. We will need to attempt to predict who else might be a target for them!"
Ser Donnel smiles warmly as he hears about Allisters own children: "Indeed, it seems that anything a maester advices, a child will oppose! Just as they will oppose anything their parents try to impose." Ser Donnel pauses. "It would be best for the rest of the family if we just let them go, but can we in good spirit do so, even if it aids our other children? Your son is the heir too, right?"

Alliser nods, "indeed he is heir, which makes my situation even more fraught. I doubt my son would move against me, should I be open in my support of the bloods, but the risk I do not think would come from him." The Lord is being Frank with the old Knight, a curious thing for a man who is usually do guarded about his loyalties. Maybe it's an effort to push through and rumors Donnell may have shared.
"I feel dismissing them is more of a failure on my own part, then a reflection on them. For it's it not the Father's place to correct his children?" He sighs, "but perhaps the best correction we can give is for us to send them away. For is it not said that if we turn from the Gods grace their protection fades from us? Perhaps that should be the lesson we give to our sons?" He gives a helpless shrug, "but I know if few honorable men that would take my son."
"But from what I have observed we are not the only men whose children are not dutifully backing there father's." He gives a moment for Ser Donnell to grasp at what Alliser might be hinting at.

"Fears of somebody using your sons could perhaps be alleviated? When I talked to Parmen, I realized that he has a clever mind and good senses. In fact a swifter mind than I myself possess. He might not be the greatest of fighters, but a combination of heart and head is just as important for a lord. Put him as a steward if you depart, until your son reaches his senses. This way everybody will be praying for your good health, because if anything happens, he will be a formidable leader of men." Ser Donnel seems satisfied with his plan, but admits.
"I have thought many times of all my faults, and I know my flaws are significant. However, we both have more sons, and there must be a way we can aid our eldest, without them being able to poison the mind of their younger siblings. Look just what happened to mine!"
At the last remark, Ser Donnel seemed clueless: "Who else have our predicament? Perhaps we could create our own trifecta?" Ser Donnel asks jokingly.

"Hum. I will have to think on that. Perhaps I will ask my son in law what he thinks," he comments on the suggestion of Parmen being steward. "He is quite the right mix of brawn and brain. I guess it was good that he ended up married to my daughter and given lands to manage himself. His talents could have languished in third son status if he had not won that tournament."
"As far as your flaws Ser, " The lord let out a snort, "They are far less then my own." He pauses, giving some thought, then decided to share, "Although your son's have been much more public with their feud, that does not preclude other fathers to worry about their sons. My own son has apparently had marital problems stemming from his pigheadedness. He seeks some glory like a hound baying after a three day old trail, to the negligence of his wife. And his wife has up and vanished, after being cold to him for all the time they have been married." He gives a disgruntled sound, "As an additional bonus my son will not even speak to me." He shakes his head, then a thought crosses his mind. "Ser, I do not know your private life well, but from appearances you appreciate your wife. Even if she is rumored to be poised against you in some matters. Perhaps if you could speak with him you could convince him that there is glory to be found in being dutiful to your wife? He rejects me out of hand, I imagine because he does not respect the gentler forms of persuasion. But you are a hero, well regarded, and chivalrous. I imagine that if you were to speak to him, especially after your recent glory and victory in the reenactment, that you might be able to break him out of this concerning manner he has adopted?"
"As to another man who shares our predicament," He once again glances casually about, "our Lord Paramount, Leo, his son appears to remain undecided about who to support. I have seen a number of hangers on buzzing around Ser Wylls Tyrell, each appear to be making an appeal to his nature. I imagine that Lord Leo May have even scheduled the show in an effort to convince his son to join the supporters of Daemon Blackfyre." he makes a dismissive gesture, "Or maybe it was bittersteel whispering in his ear," He shrugs, "Either way, I imagine a visit from the great Ser Donnel would be helpful in making the case for the king, especially after that resounding speech you just gave"

"Do think of it, Parmen seems to be a good sort. It is indeed strange how the whims of fate works, had a slight malayse taken him that day, so much could have changed!"
Ser Donnel considers the proposition for a momemt before deciding: "I will try to speak to your son, but if vainglory has taken it's grip on him, it will be hard to steer him away from the plaudits of his peers. It is always easier to do right than wrong."
"Speaking to ser Wylls would be more hazardous, the wrong words could easily send him the other way." Ser Donnel pauses: "If he is anything like his father, official meetings will bore him to tears. I will be open to the opportunities that may arise." Ser Donnel promises.
"Such matters will have to wait until the situation of my sons is resolved, however, I must admit to being apprehensive." Ser Donnel breathes in before telling: "I might need for one of them to become a household knight somewhere else, would you be amicable to that idea?" Ser Donnel asks.

"I would be honored to have one of your son's join as a household Knight." Alliser nods decisively, placing a hand on his chest.
"As far as Wyll's? I imagine that your assessment is correct in that official gatherings may bore him, as they do most men. But I think that men if honor and skill with the joust might peak his interests." He offers the old warhorse a comforting smile, "I would not be to hard on yourself for finding the right words Ser. Sometimes plain words spoken with conviction can outdo a hundred honeyed words."

"Thank you, my friend. I might very well hold you to that. I suspect talking to your son will be much easier if it happens before anything is decided, however. It would not do to have him think of my approach as merely a part of a deal with you..."
Ser Donnel then offers: "If you have further need for me, do tell, After my sons have fought away their aggression, I suspect things might ease down!" Ser Donnel seems forcibly hopefull, despite the slim odds.

Offering a warm smile he replies, "no, I have no further need for you Ser. May peace be found in both our households." He says in way of parting.
