[Note: This thread carries on a narrative from the Plea Deal thread.] Laena and Ashara were riding together, chatting about inconsequential matters. Until, finally, they reached a large meadow. Leana led them to the middle, gave a final look-around to reassure herself that there was nowhere for anyone to possibly hide within hearing distance, before finally nodding. "Here will do." she says, as much to herself as Ashara, before dismounting. Letting her horse feed on the grass, she turns to her cousin. "When I asked you for help, you said you wanted to know everything, when I could. Are you still sure you want to know? It is likely to give you a thousand troubles, without a single benefit."

"I would rather see a thousand troubles coming than have you suffer while I remain ignorant."
She smiles.
"We stand together or we fall apart, right?"

"We may fall together, instead." she warns, but then sighs. "But very well. I see you are committed." She gives one final look around before continuing.
"In short: you heard the rumour that Bittersteel is a kinslayer?" She looks at her cousin for a few moments before nodding acknowledgement. "Yeah. That was me." She waits to see how her cousin reacts before giving any more details. "Now the ruthless scion of both Bracken and Targaryen will stop at *nothing* to track me down."

"Now the ruthless scion of both Bracken and Targaryen will stop at *nothing* to track me down." She nods. "I understand now why you were so concerned. However, is there really any more reason to fear, since I threw that bag in the Mander? Is there anything or anyone other than the two of us that can link you and the rumor?"

"Probably." She nods, simply. "I did a lot of mingling. All it takes is the wrong sharp-eyed person seeing through my disguise and remembering me. I spoke with a lot of people, and danced with a fair few as well." She sighs. "While it is rather unlikely, to put it mildly, Bittersteel will get his information from this source, I know there was at least one who did so. I have already been approached by Bloodraven regarding my actions.
"What we have done is ensure that, if they only half-remember; if they only suspect, rather than know, they cannot find confirmation. We will just have to pray that's enough."

"Bloodraven? I'd love to ask him how he knew. Really I'd just love to meet him..."
She shakes her head.
"...but more importantly, there is something else we could do to protect you. We could try to make it seem that someone else was the source of the rumor. Muddy the waters, so to speak, sow confusion and contradictory information. I don't particularly like the idea of putting someone innocent in harm's way, but perhaps there is someone deserving of unpleasant scrutiny that plausibly could have spread that story."

"He is an impressive man, but he didn't get to where he is by sharing information like that freely."
She clearly considers Ashara's suggestion for a good few moments, before finally shaking her head. "At the moment, the only links to me are at the masquerade ball, which were difficult to follow when fresh, and getting colder all the time. If we start planting new rumours and the like, we're creating new avenues of investigation, which lead back to us. And plus, what if we accidentally implicate the relative of someone who knows my identity, but dislikes Bittersteel enough to stay silent so far." She shakes her head. "It's an interesting idea, but this is the realm of the truly powerful. I've poked a great beast, now the best thing to do is stay very small, and very quiet, and not do *anything* to attract attention."

"No, I don't suppose he would give up that information. Still, if I ever get the chance to meet him I would like to. I appreciate his efforts, and I think I would enjoy aiding him in them."
Certainly more than I would enjoy having to play the role of the docile Lady of House Cordwayner under the thumb of Lady Maegelle.
"I suppose you are right about letting the trail grow cold rather than muddying the waters. I see benefits of both, but will defer to you."
[OOC: I think we've covered the intended discussion well enough, so open to either ending the scene or chatting about other things as well. I think this is prior to the jousts, but anything that has happened on prior days is probably fair game.]
