Steel and Ribbons (Knights)
One after another, the knights and lords form up lines, the most renowned in front, awaiting the rest of their peers to be announced and make the rounds. Eyeing their competition, both for the jousting to come and for the hearts of the ladies. They also get a good look at the ladies having made their way to the lower steps of the stands, those of higher station generally being given a place closest, many trying to determine whom to seek the favor of, though the majority are already married, their choice already made, by custom and silent agreement, husbands, grooms-to-be and those not interested in seeking favors breaks the ranks first, saving the most exciting part for last.
Special: Characters with Tourney Knight gains their bonus on all tests in this event. Having Famous, Attractive, Head of House, Heir or Anointed grants +1b each (you may trade in 2b for 1D).
Restricted Event: One must first enroll in the tourney, critical failure on the status test to sign up disbars you from taking part in this event.
Step 1: Vying for favor.
Unmarried knights may seek out virtuous young ladies, the general mechanic is:
-Decide whom to seek the favor of.
-Simple Intrigue (charm or seduce) +Chivalry is used, add the DoS from the status test step 1 from the Parade (front of the line gives you better chances) as well as any points of glory gained from step 2.
-The base TN is 12, add +3 if she is attractive. Add +3 for each rank of status above yours that she possesses. Particularly desirable and much sought after ladies have another +3.
-In general, 0 DoS allows you to ride "for the honor" of a lady, while 1 DoS is sufficient for her to grant her favor for you to wear, but see steps 2 through 4.
-Prior interactions, in play or through background, may influence such TN's further.
-A married/betrothed knight suffers -2D on the test if attempting to gain the favor of another lady than his wife/intended if she is not present, he may ask to ride in the honor (but not seeking the favor) of another lady without incurring any penalties (1 DoS required). The difficulty to obtain the favor of wife/intended is usually TN 9 without additional modifiers.
Special: Spending a destiny point to affect your test has double the normal effect. Spending a point of glory gains you +1D, you may also spend a point of influence to gain +1D.
Note: Special NPC's and may very well be guided by motivations too strong to be affected by dices, though the former will always offer you to ride in her honor unless there's a specific reason as to why she would deny this. PC ladies may chose how much they are affected by the dice.
Step 2: Rivalry.
If two or more knights manages to score 1 or more DoS against the same lady, the one with the most DoS gains her favor, in case of a tie, she will ordinarily suggest that the two face each other in the first round of jousting to vie for her favor (if three or more are tied, use "favorite ranking" then chivalry, then reroll, to single out the two to duel), agreeing nets +1 chivalry, +1 glory to the winner of that joust, +1 virtue to the lady, this counts as riding for her honor. Backing out costs -1 chivalry and bars you from partaking in step 3.
-When you designate a lady, at least one NPC contestant randomly selected from narrator's secret table of mystery will also compete for her favor (unless provided by the lady track or script, attractive and desirable ladies typically attracts more suitors, and of higher quality).
Step 3: Throw down the gauntlet.
If a lady "only" offers you to ride for her honor AND gives her favor to another, you may challenge him over it, this works out as a simple intrigue with the following options for technique:
--Convince-Suggest that you believe the lady is worth fighting over, this repeats steps 1 and 2, granting +2 per DoS on the repeat test (triggering the result of tied DoS if you can match or exceed his. For each DoS (if any) that you exceeded his in the first place, receive +1D.
--Incite-Suggest that you believe the one originally favored are not worthy of the lady's favor and that you will prove it, the TN is the intrigue defense+virtue of the lady, success ensures that you get to challenge for the favor in the first round of the joust, but your rival's disposition towards you worsens by one step.
--Taunt-Ridicule the one originally favored, the TN is his passive Will(Dedication), success makes him issue the challenge himself, and his disposition towards you worsens by one step.
On a successful challenge, it is resolved as per a tie by DoS in step 2, critical failure costs -1 chivalry and one step worsened disposition of the lady who will no longer let you ride for her honor.
Note that PC's and special NPC's may decide not to give you their favor even should you defeat her chosen champion, but you will still face the rival in the first round of the joust. Also, be sure to discuss with your fellow player if you wish to challenge a rival PC.
Step 4: Smooth Recovery. -WAIT FOR NARRATOR GO-AHEAD BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THIS ONE-
-If a lady "only" offers you to ride for her honor, you may immediately attempt a second test against some other lady nobody has yet designated, Gaining 1 DoS automatically makes her offer you her favor to wear. The disposition of the lady you originally designated towards this new lady will worsen by one step, and if you accept the offer, it will worsen by one step towards you as well. If you do not gain 1 DoS, you must succeed on a Deception(Act) against her Passive Awareness (Empathy) or it will worsen by one step towards you anyway. Critical failure on the simple intrigue makes it obvious to everyone what you are doing, costing you worsened disposition from both ladies and -1 chivalry. This is still possible if you attempted step 3.
Consequences (to qualify, you must succeed on the above tests to gain these rewards, even if favor is granted through roleplay.):
-Ordinarily gain a disposition increase from your chosen lady equal to your DoS scored.
-Riding for the honor of a lady of virtue of a status rank at least equal to your own: +1 chivalry.
-Riding with the favor of a lady of virtue of as status rank at least equal to your own: +1 chivalry.
-Riding with the favor of a lady of virtue 3+: +1 Chivalry.
-Riding with the favor of a lady of status 5: +1 Glory
-Riding with the favor of an attractive lady: +1 Glory
-Riding with the favor of a highly sought lady: +1 Influence
-Seeking the favor of a lady not you wife/intended (if you have one) -2 chivalry, and -2 virtue to your life partner and any lady giving you her favor, and all rewards are forfeit. Does not apply if life partner is absent and you only ask to ride in the honor of a lady.
-If you spend a DP during this event and gain the favor of the lady it was spent to help obtain, you may use it once more during the joust provided you still have her favor. If it was spent to help obtain a favor which ensues in a duel for her favor, you may spend it again during that duel (if you do not spend it and win her favor by winning the duel, see the previous sentence).
-If you do not win the favor of a lady, and rides for her honor, you may have a chance to gain her favor should her chosen champion be eliminated.
Note: A married man may not gain more than +1 glory and +1 chivalry for this event.
