For all her other schemes, Laena never forgot her primary one - she wanted a new husband. Ideally a Lord with claims her next children could actually inherit this time, and one without too much interest in the actual business of ruling, so she had something to keep her from boredom. And so, to Lord Roland Leygood. The man she'd asked Ser Roland Cordwayner to invite here for this express purpose (primarily, at least). She'd decided to wait until after he had finished jousting, else - by reputation, at least - he'd be too focused on that to give her much attention. Plus, it gave her an easy conversation opener. By reputation he seemed like a man who'd love to boast to an attractive woman about how well he'd just done, so she intended to give him that precise opportunity. Giving him enough time to recover after his defeat at the hands of Lord Durwell, she requests the meeting, making clear that it is a casual social call, not anything 'business' related. While she suggests they meet so that they might observe the last jousts together, she does not insist upon it if he would prefer to observe alone. Roland Leygood Audience Roll: 7d6k5+7 24 Think so.

Lord Leygood is not exactly the type to boast about his own performance, preferring to praise his opponents, though he knows he is capable, she might even come to regret her strategy considering just how much comes out of the bottle that she uncorked by broaching the subject of jousting, he appears to know every name on the scene, including the westermen, just how good they are and if any have any particular style or tricks, he seems to have it in him to be an excellent teacher if he has the talent to actually give proper instructions.

Leana's mind naturally gravitates to the idea that he had great potential to teach, say, a son all about jousting. Observant; humble - or at least, not arrogant; with an excellent memory. At first glance, he looks to have many fine qualities.Starting Intrigue! While not interrupting, Laena makes sure to guide the conversation: from the tourneys themselves, to his travels to and from said tourneys (and, as a subtle aside, if he ever worries about his land while he's away, or dreads what work awaits him on his return). Also, she makes sure to ask not just about the jousting greats of the 'now', but also who he sees as future greats, and what he feels are the most important lessons for those 'future greats' to be taught. While not mentioning those words directly, she tries to guide him into talking up the value of things like 'legacy', and 'stability'. When she feels like the seeds have been planted (and the otherwise-distracting jousting is over for the time being), she will politely and gracefully leave, letting him mull over his own words, and consider the value of his own legacy, and what he must do to forge it.

Whenever the subjects veers off from jousting where he is far more knowledgeable than Laena, he is wholly unimpressive, apparently leaving his lands entirely in the care of his steward and maester, he does in fact spend more time travelling to the next tourney than on his own lands, and when there, he can be found in the yard practicing at the quintains with his brothers from dawn to dusk. Hopefully his steward is capable and honest, for Lord Leygood seems incapable of noticing if anything is amiss. Surely other lords might desire to wed their daughters to him, or perhaps they have tried and failed to make him talk about something else than jousting and looked elsewhere, for his lands are nothing remarkable, but his renown at the list is fair, Laena does not find it a great challenge perhaps, but it was not exactly easy to lure him into discussing other subjects.

Laena sighs after leaving Lord Leygood. Truth be told, he was still probably the best option available to her that she was aware of. The man himself was ... well, obsessed, and not with her. But his utter distinterest in his lands left plenty of room for her to position herself as the power behind the throne. Played right, she wouldn't even have to hide it, just angle it as 'sparing him bother, so he can focus on his jousting'. Plenty of opportunity to travel to tourneys, with the opportunities for deals that brings. Hopefully he'd not be so obsessed that it would be hard to get him to put a babe or three in her.
It could work. Though she'd have to accept that he would probably never look at her the way B- she shook her head -she would have to accept that she would never really love him, and him her. But his land, unexceptional as it is, would hopefully serve to keep her from feeling too bored.
She shakes her head again. It was still early days. They'd met once. Though time was probably running short if she wanted a babe in her (or, ideally, out of her) by the time the war started, there was still time before anything was fixed, and she'd done all she could today.
Meanwhile, in a dark, hidden corner of her mind, a black-hearted idea, born of desire and desperation, began to take root...
