Balon had originally met Ser Aemon the same night he'd met Lord Karl Willum at the Golden Rose. While Balon's memory of that night was fuzzy (especially near the end) he did recall Ser Aemon ensuring he got back to his encampment safely. And while Karl and Balon had instantly hit it off and became friends over the course of the Black Tourney, Ser Aemon's admiration wasn't earned until after he'd taken part in the rescue of Lord Reynald's heir as well as saving Ser Imry's wife from drowning. Now they were facing off against each other. Balon respected Ser Aemon and wanted to win the right way. The honorable way. Even if he did hate that Dornish loving cunt of a wife of his. It may appear that Balon will require patience this time, too, but another closely matched opponent, one that should be quite capable of unseating him. Aemon N: 7d6k4+5 22 6d6k4+1 16 4d6 9

It would appear that Ser Aemon changes tactics to match Balon, seeking to cancel out the slight edge such risky tactics offers. Aemon N: 7d6k4+7 27 6d6k4+1 19 4d6 14So that should be 2x10-12=8 damage

Ser Aemon's shift in tactics seems to work better than when Balon applied himself to do the same, but Balon's horsemanship keeps him in the saddle.
Yeah, best way to counter Balon is to do as he does.... Aemon N+EF: 2#7d6k4+7 23 30 2#6d6k4+1 12 22 2#4d6 13 18PR 19 Health: 8/12 That's a 1 DoS for the first, so Balon gets back to 12. Then it's a 3 DoS for the second, for 30-12=18 damage, so guess that's 2 injuries and 6 health after CyB.

PR: 19 AR: 12 HP: 6/12, Tough F/I/W: 0/2/0 [Phase 4] Appleton Joust, vs. Aemon, Charge Noble, SiS, CYB: 6d6k4+5 25 6d6k4+1 24 6d6k4 17Balon could feel a trickle of blood running down his chest from the blow Aemon delivered. I'll need a few passes to recover from that. Balon saw that Ser Aemon was copying his own tactics and decided to play it safe for a few passes and let Ser Aemon run the risk of becoming injured.

As if anticipating Balon's more conservative move, Ser Aemon shifts his tactics, fine blows traded, but neither is decisive. Aemon N+HiS: 7d6k4+7 28 6d6k4-2 14 4d6 10PR 19 Health: 11/12

The crowd edges forward and nearly off their seats in anticipation as this pairing appears as closely matched as any, could they reach nine broken lances?

Balon was fortunate to remain in his saddle as the longer the match went the worse his horsemanship seemed to become. If he wanted to win he needed to refocus and wait for Aemon to start making mistakes. Which, unfortunately, seemed unlikely. On the 8th tilt, Ser Aemon lands a blow that men like Blackfyre, Breakspear and Longthorn would be pleased with, perfectly in the center of Balon's breastplate to direct the full weight of the speeding horse and rider for him to absorb.
PR 19 Health: 10/12 Aemon N+HiS: 7d6k4+7 31 6d6k4-2 15 4d6 20That looks like a 3 DoS for TN 18 to me. Straight 6's.....

It seemed like neither contestant was going to fall. Pass after pass, blow after blow, nothing dislodged them from their saddle. Even after Ser Aemon's blow against Balon drew blood the two fought on. It would take a perfect strike to end the contest. And on the eighth tilt the perfect strike was delivered, it just hadn't been by Balon. With a resounding thump Balon landed hard on the ground and rolled, ending on his back. Despite the pain in his chest and the lack of air in his lungs, he immediately rose, refusing to let anyone see him battered and beaten.
Balon removed his helm and dipped his head in respect to Ser Aemon, "Well fought ser. May the Seven guide your hand to victory."
