Claims to be the premier purveyor of comforts and entertainment in all of Westeros, The House of Delights in Oldtown's Lyseni quarter is certainly among the most expensive. With the exception of half a dozen well groomed men, all at least six feet tall and with broad muscular shoulders and stern gazes, all the staff a visitor will ever see are young beautiful women of Lyseni heritage who all could have looked the part of Targaryen princesses if dressed as befits royalty rather than in such attire as would be considered the scandal of the generation if a princess was ever observed trying it on. While the girls are certainly available for a private audience for a price, the immediately visible scene is one of decadent elegance, where such merchants rich enough not to care about the price come to dine with no risk of encountering any unable to afford membership of their group. Behind thick velvet curtains towards the back, private deals are struck, and games of dice are played, though for those fancying themselves clever, there are games of cards and things even more exotic where skill might allow one to leave with more coin than one arrived with, but for almost everyone, the house almost always wins.
Participation: Once per participated event during Phase 3 and 4 that is notably tied to Oldtown, presently these being:
-Regency of Bandallon
-The Empty Seat
The Basics:
-You can stake up to Status*Status GD per day on gambling. For each bet, you must label the stake put in the dice description.
-You must spend 10% of your stakes placed on refreshments (running a gambling parlor does have expenses to be covered), or the total stakes you are allowed to place are halved.
-You may double your expenditures on refreshments per GD stakes, allowing your total stake to also be doubled.
-The virtue score of a lady that partakes is treated as one lower for the purpose of determining her defense against negative rumors.
-If simply dicing for low stakes, that can be done at inns and such, but would generally not have any meaningful effects on your wallet.
Games of chance:
-Roll 1d6, on a 1, you gain 4GD and 105SS, on any other result, you lose your stake of 1 GD.
-You may apply smaller or larger stakes per roll as desired, with the payout adjusted correspondingly (Net wins on a success are 4.5 times the stakes).
-You may additionally test for cunning and/or deception as noted below, this must be done before the 1d6 is rolled. The 1d6 is not considered a test for anything which would modify it.
Games of skill:
-Test Cunning (Logic) TN 13 each DoS adds +50% to the prize if you win.
-On a critical failure, you lose automatically.
-A cunning test applies only to a single 1d6 roll.
Dirty Tricks:
-You may attempt Deception (Cheat) TN 13, each DoS adds +50% to the prize if you win.
-A cheat test applies only to a single 1d6 roll.
-Increasing the stakes to reduce the dice involved have the following effects: The stakes can only be doubled (so 1, 2, 4, 8 etc), and for each doubling the TN is treated as 1 higher for the purpose of determining critical failure.
-A critical failure on a cheat test cancels all winnings from the evening, bars you from further gambling and results in -1 Chivalry or -2 virtue.
Considerations for Qualities:
Blood of Valyria: The +1 to things derived from status applies to the total stakes allowed.
Great Bastard: Negates any loss of chivalry/virtue (including the effect on rumor defense).
Wealthy: Stakes does not count as "goods and services", but refreshments does. Additionally, your total stakes allowed are doubled.
Decadent: You must first set a limit on how much coin you are willing to risk in this place in total and whether to cheat or play games of skill (mark in dice description), this then attempts to compel taking the option of doubling your expenditure on refreshments, on a critical failure you are also compelled to place the total amount of stakes allowed.
Impatient: Games of skill and dirty tricks requires concentration.
Lascivious (and male): The presence of "admirers" attempts to compel you to take the option of doubling your expenditure on refreshments (possibly retroactively), on a critical failure you are also compelled to place the total amount of stakes allowed. This effect stacks with a failure on decadent (effectively tripling your expenses).
Prejudiced (Sinners): Attempts to compel not setting foot in this place, on a critical failure, you are instead compelled to actively seek it's closure.
Proud: If gambling, this attempts to compel partaking in games of skill if your cunning rank is 3 or higher, on a critical failure, this compels you to play out the maximum total stakes allowed.
