Ser Manfryd of Brackford does not respond the call to arms, explaining that brigands and outlaws plague his lands, paid for by the Brackens without a doubt. Bloodraven states that this is a lie, and suggests sending a delegation to remind him of his duties to his liege. The Ironhand voices the opinion that Raventree should reply with fire and steel to send a message to any vassal that might think to shirk his duty. Bloodraven counters that they have a greater use for a knight, a dozen mounted sergeants and three score spear men in Battle Valley, not to mention the use of such men as must be diverted from elsewhere to subjugate him for treason. Once this business with the Brackens has been concluded, surely a second son could be found who can muster enough of a force to claim Brackford from a traitor. The Ironhand believes that the other vassals, once reminded what disloyalty is repaid with vengeance, will provide such forces as to make up for the shortfall and more.
