Blood still running hot from his previous encounter with Ser Walgrave Waters, Wildfyre had perhaps been too rash in challenging Ser Simon if he wanted to build bridges between House Tarly and the Blackfyre cause, but it was too late now. Regardless, Daeron viewed Ser Simon's insults as an oblique critique and insult against Great Bastards as a whole. He knew from firsthand experience that Ser Simon was a better jouster than he was, but once the first pass was completed he would be able to even the odds with swords.

Even sobered up, Ser Simon isn't much nicer than otherwise, cracking a joke about such rewards as Laena must have offered should Daeron emerge victorious. Wouldn't even be sinful incest, just adultery, but what is one more knight for her to inflict with the pox? Nobody else laughs with him.

Intended or not, Simon’s taunts only served to incense Daeron further as charged wildly at the Tarly knight. “You’ll pay for that jest.” he muttered, audible only to his horse.

Daeron's strike could have felled an ox, but all it seems to do at first is to make Simon angry, but anger is good, it can make a man loose control over himself. And the way they are hacking into one another, nobody can withstand that for long, no matter how stubborn.

The raging Simon was a terrifying sight, but for a man who had battled blackguards like Otho Bracken and Rennifer Waters the snarling knight was nothing to fear. Absorbing his riposte, Daeron continues to press his advantage hoping to convince Ser Simon that an apology would be less painful than the abuse he would have to receive.

Simon keeps it up, though it appears that fighting angry is more to Daeron's advantage than to his foe.

Simon’s sustained assault is starting to show its toll on Daeron as his form and technique begin to get sloppy, but at the end of the day a mighty slash with a sword is still a deadly thing, even if it’s not a thing of beauty.

Simon at least seems to know when he is beaten, or maybe just when he can't really hurt his opponent anymore without getting close to death himself. He throws down his sword and mutters something under his helm sounding like "enjoy your reward".
Takes wound. Yields.

Roland cheered, confident that there was no need to shame his Companion by rushing to his aid despite his injuries. These were cuts a dragon would quickly shrug off.
A friend's triumph and a foe's defeat - a double sweetness. He would have been glad of the chance to face Ser Simon himself, but could not fault Laena for choosing her own blood. Particularly when it meant choosing a knight of Wildfyre's prowess.

A more temperate knight would have been satisfied with an honorable victory, but temperate knights don’t earn the epithet “Wildfyre” and Wildfyre’s blood was running hot. He had slain a massive boar with a single spear thrust, forcefully advanced his house’s agenda, and thoroughly thrashed, not one, but two thugs in the course of a day.
He was a dragon, and dragons suffer no insults.
“What was that Ser? You are a knight and scion of House Tarly of Horn Hill. Speak up like a real man or keep your words to yourself!”

Seeing that Ser Simon had internalized his advice on keeping quiet, Daeron simply salutes his sister before marching his horse off the field. His injuries would take only a few days to heal, while the same couldn’t be said for Simon.

A swift, brutal victory by her champion. A clear message of what awaited any who insulted one of The Blood. Beaming, Laena was not shy in her applause or cheering, but stayed shy of making a spectacle of herself.
Already, her mind was considering possible gifts to offer her brother in thanks.

Maester Rhaegor's face remained neutral, giving a light clap as Wildfyre reigned victorious over the rambunctious and overstepping Simon. Inside? He was fuming with a unquenching disgust, furious at the drunkard for not taking the battle seriously and even more upset that the ever obnoxious Daeron received more glory for it. After his recent interaction with his sister, though, he found himself... perplexed.
In a strange way, both of the men weren't worthy of the victory; one for his insult, one for his obvious self motivation. But if Lady Laena were to receive all the praise for it, because it was a duel in for her honor, then in his eyes, there was no fault in the victory achieved.
She did give the Tarly an impressive slap, though. His eyes searched the crowd briefly before finding his sister, certainly pleased with the result. He watched her for a moment, wondering if she would give the same response if he asked the same question Simon proposed to her. The corners of his mouth curled slightly into a grin; he certainly hoped so.
But that was a question for a different time. For now, there were reputations to uphold and others to blacken. He slipped quietly away, the occasional clink of his chain the only indication that the maester was even present for the whole affair.
