The beauty of international play! You can never decide what team you are thrust into!
I must disagree with you on one point, simply because I see this refrenced so often: Pelé is undeserving of his status as the greatest of all time. It is true that the 1300 goals is a myth, 600 goals came in friendlies and practice games, but he still has a goal to game ratio of close to one, even if you just look at international level. He also did this from a more withdrawn position than many others, sharing goals with his teammates. The Brazil argument is also false: Because Brazil was among the toughest league at the time! Very few Brazilian starters played outside of the Brazilian league of the squads that won 3/4 world cups! Over all Pelé is the greatest who ever lived.
If you look at talent then it might be ronaldinho, or if you focus on hard work Ronaldo or Stanley Mathews, but over all, Pelé is the miracle of football who will be almost impossible to beat!

Hah! Way to go Russia!
Second biggest shock so far, Spain equally disappointing in this match as Germany vs South Korea.

Too bad for Denmark.
But this world cup is full of weirdness. Japan winning tomorrow?

I feel bad for Schmeichel; the guy saves 3 penalties and still loses...

It never ceases to amaze me how poor penalty execution really is among players. Especially among the stars.
Ronaldo blew it against Iran, Messi against Iceland, now Modric (and a tonne of others).
They all do this wait out the keeper thing, well, almost all of them, sometimes they just kick and hope. Then you've got Kjær (as an example), that does it exactly right, hard and high. If a team practiced the hard and high technique a thousand times, they'd never miss a penalty. Just do it three to five times a day.

Craziest World Cup I've ever seen.
98: France-Brazil, not surprising 02: Brazil-Germany, not surprising 06: Italy-France, not surprising 10: Spain-NL, not surprising 14: Germany-Argentina, not surprising. 18: (Probably Brazil or France which would not be surprising)-Croatia/England/Russia/Sweden
Anyone predicting any of the last four to reach the final was doing it 100% with his heart. Frankly, we've had much bigger shockers than Brazil and France getting kicked out by Belgium and Uruguay, both of them have forwards that can demolish any defense. Only teams that has never lifted the cup before in the semi-finals? Would require Brazil, France AND England to lose, which is at most 25% chance of happening, which means it totally will happen.

Outrageous! VAR was supposed to remove such mistakes! Neymar is a crybaby, who disgraces football, but a clear cut penalty as Meunier pushes him as he jumps! And VAR said play on! In addition to the more dubious coplaints of kompany tackling Costa with high studs and the other Neymar incident! I feel sorry for that squad now! Their whole backline will be too old by 2022.
