The costs of attending the tourney is already subtracted from the house's coffers (as are default expenditures), however, the lord (or his steward) may attempt a TN 15 Status(Stewardship) test, gaining +1 coffers upon a success, while a critical failure causes a loss of -3 coffers.
In addition, a house may dole out extra coin on more impressive accommodations:
Comfortable (4 coffers): gain +1 to endurance tests and intrigue defense during the tournament.
Lavish (8 coffers): gain +2 to endurance tests and intrigue defense during the tournament.
Finally, a lord may pledge to guarantee to cover some or all the losses of ransom his knights may incur in the joust. Note that only net losses are typically reimbursed.
Default choices by NPC lords (reimbursements only apply if the knight incurs a net loss in ransoms):
Lord Alliser Levalle pays for comfortable accommodation, will reimburse any chivalric knight in his service the value of a rounsey and chainmnail, though any chivalric knight of significant skill (Either Animal Handling 4 or Fighting 5, or equivalent level of competence) or family member will be reimbursed the value of destrier and full plate.
Lord Willem Starling will reimburse a chivalric family member with the value of a destrier and full plate, any chivalric knights in his service may enter the insurance pool, where each pledge to donate up to half his net winnings to cover the net losses of others, with Lord Starling covering any shortfall.
Lords Jon Blackbriar and Ulbert Starkwood will reimburse chivalric knights in their service with the value of rounsey and chainmail, chivalric family members with the value of courser and full plate.
Note: PC lords may set different policies, it is up to the players of a house to decide if the stewardship test should be attempted, and PC's may influence NPC's to chose differently. The reimbursement rates are indicated for jousting where applicable, as other abilities comes into play during the melee, other considerations may apply. The narrator will make a few dice rolls to see how well NPC knights fare and check if this would make a difference in the house's costs for the tourney (the coin expected to be spent on reimbursements are already set aside).
