Ser Aerion and Ser Uthor see two men rise up to meet them, and Aerion can tell that it is Ser Titus Blackbrier and Ser Preston Oakheart. It would be unfair for the cousins Oakheart to fight each other, so Aerion steps his horse forward and points to Ser Preston with his Longsword. "Ser Uthor. My apologies for having to be the one to remove the heir to your house from today's events." P2.5 M5 - Initative vs. Ser Preston vs. TN ?: 5d6k3-4 11

Aerion will call out to Preston. "Best of luck, Ser Preston. I fear you may be in dire need of it this day."
Aerion will wait for Ser Preston to attack, choosing to counter attack the aging Heir. The question is if Ser Preston is irked enough by the taunt to charge or not?

"Unless you have a nickname to inspire awe, we all do." Preston quips back, the taunt having no effect , though he does have a point, and a dangerously accurate swordarm.
Old? He was like knighted at the start of chronicle 1. CD: 16 (13) AR: 10 Health: 9/12 Move and cautious attack: 8d6k4+3 26 4*6-1=14

Aerion lets the heir come to him, but did not expect the vicious swing the man was able to land on him, despite his trying to be defensive minded. Their horses breath heavily as the two men clash swords, and Aerion has to fight to remain in his upright position. He is able to land two blows on the man quite readily, and has his balance back under him. The man is dangerous still, so Aerion must be careful. P2.5 M5 - Cautious Attack vs. Ser Preston vs. CD 16: 7d6k4 23 - 2 DoS 6 * 2 = 12 - 10 = 2 Damage
I thought I read somewhere that Preston had a 14 year old daughter, no? Which would make him around 40 at least, which is old by Aerion's standards lol Also, forgot to include my taking fatigue on first hit but it's been my standard melee opening (counter attack and fatigue), so Preston hits against CD 18, making it 2 DoS and 2 Damage.

P2.5 M5 R2 - Aim + Attack + Pious vs. Ser Preston vs. CD 16: 9d6k6-1 28 - 3 DoS 6 * 3 = 18 - 10 = 8 Damage, Preston forced to take Injury (current health: 3)

Both fatigue and cautious attack would have to be declared before Preston was rolled for.

Fatigue is assumed taken unless otherwise stated, and has been the standard I've used the whole time on this counter attack strategy.
How can I declare stance (cautious, etc) as a counter attack before his attack is being made with no time between declaration and roll? If I knew he was doing a cautious roll before rolling then I can state my stance/options. Without knowing (the issue with turn order in pbp) I can't state ahead of time. Are you expecting me to include an exhaustive list of conditions by which the stance changes? Thats a little much in my opinion.
Regardless of the outcome of this scene, going forward, since I'm working from mobile more often than not I'm not going to be able to do an exhaustive list and my ADD will likely mean I forget to specify, so assume fatigue is taken unless otherwise mentioned. Equally so with my standard tactic of "Go first - Counter attack (cautious), take the hit, then pious attack."
If you decide to take away cautious, I will be annoyed but it's whatever. Aerion takes an injury and I'll roll the extra dice later.

Unfortunately, I have a sanity to protect, meaning I generally must be inflexible when it comes to rules and policy.

Alright, no worries - not the end of the world. Aerion has to take two injuries and is at 2 health.
Removing Cautious vs Preston: 1d6 3 which makes counter the attack 3 DoS and 8 Damage, leaving him at 1 health. Then with second attack still also being 3 DoS and 18damage, Preston has to take either two injuries or a wound, remains at 1 health. CD: (13) 10 (10, -3 AP, +4 Lg Shield, -1 Shattering from Scene 4) AR: 10 Health: 2/12 F/I/W: 1/2/0 To Hit: 7d6k5+2 (+1 Superior, +1 Mounted) Damage: 6 (ATH +1 +1 Mounted) Assume fatigue taken for AP unless stated otherwise/max taken. In the future, what is the expected solution? List all possible if/then scenarios? Or just state "tactics may change" and wait between declaration and roll?

CD: (16) 13 AR: 10 Health: 1/12-2 injuries. Aim+Attack: 9d6k5+1 25 3*6-10=8 Preston takes fatigue if attacked. In this case: Cautious counterattack/Set-for-charge and take fatigue to ignore AP would have covered it, especially in the case of fatigue, if you'd use it against a cautious attack, odds are you'd wanted to do it against a regular charge or standard attack. You may have confused the 14 year old sister for a daughter. I don't see any need for a die to be removed, but result is the same.

Ser Preston lands another solid blow and Aerion is forced back into a precarious position in his saddle. Thinking he has to end it soon, he spurs his mount forward and let's out a shout as he does so, letting all of his frustration out in a sudden burst of physical violence. He manages to strike true, but will the Warrior smile on him this day and determine if it is enough to defeat Ser Preston? If not, it is likely the end of his run in the melee. P2.5 M5 - Reckless Attack + Aim vs. Ser Preston vs. CD 16: 8d6k5-4 22 P2.5 M5 - Reckless +1D vs. Ser Preston: 1d6 5 (forgot to add +1D in dice)
Total 27 vs 16 = 3 DoS 3 x 6 = 18 - 10 = 8 Damage.
Another two injuries or a wound for Preston to keep going. But he can yield too, that'd be nice, given that Aerion is on his last legs as well?
CD: (8) 10 (10, -3 AP, +4 Lg Shield, -1 Shattering from Scene 4) AR: 10 Health: 2/12 F/I/W: 2/4/0 To Hit: 7d6k5+2 (+1 Superior, +1 Mounted) Damage: 6 (ATH +1 +1 Mounted) Assume fatigue taken for AP unless stated otherwise/max taken.
Removing Cautious was adding the -1D back from not using the stance, if that's what you meant.
Definitely did confuse sister with daughter!
Just double checking that you are accounting but both Fatigue and Injury penalties in the dice. After the second hit by Aerion, he should be at -4 penalty to hit (2 fatigue from ignoring AP x2 and 2 injuries from the second hit).
Talented, Superior weapon, Mounted make his bonus +3 without penalties, so his last hit should have been at -1, not +1? Doesn't change result of last hit, but might effect incoming hit if he decides to keep going?

Preston didn't take any fatigue before your last attack (he did cautious instead), and his attack came before that, so just the -2 from injuries.
The -1D doesn't make you roll less die, it makes you keep one less. So you roll the same number of dices as before, keep the highest, but keep 5 instead of 4. +1D adds a dice to be rolled, -1D does not remove dices for rolling.
Anyway, he takes defeat.

Short of breath and his arms heavy both feet om swing and blocking, Aerion breathes a sigh of relief when Preston yields. "Well fought, Ser Preston. Another day could easily have had another outcome."
Aerion's disposition of Preston goes up +2 out of respect for his skill. Thought it was another fatigue since CD was listed as the same. Now let's hope Aerion's next opponent is as half-dead as Aerion!
