Having met Falyse the day before, then spending the rest of the day hunting for her gifts, today Mikel rose early and made his way to where the Lord of Harroway was staying. "Good morning." He greeted the man at arms on watch. "I am Ser Mikel of Harroway and was hoping that Lord Roote might have the time to allow for an audience." It had been over ten years since he had left Harroway for a tournament in Runestone with a small caravan when they were attacked by one of the mountain clans. Mikel's defining moment that day - at least to everyone else - was when he had cut down two of the tribesmen trying to get into the wagon occupied by Lord Roote's nieces and nephew. He imagined Lord Roote would have the time for him and looked forward to hearing how things had been back home.

Lord Roote does indeed have time.

Mikel paid Lord Roote every respect, bowing as he entered and thanking him for allowing the audience. Treating the Lord as a powerful man whose time was precious, Mikel began with the customary small talk, though genuine given the history which linked them. "I hope you have been well, and Harroway prosperous, Lord Roote. How is your family? Does the city fare well?"
Mikel had visited his family before this tournament, and saw some of the city, so soon the small talk fell away and the larger concerns came. "In the Reach we can feel the war coming, Lord Roote. It hangs in the air and clings to everything. Nobody has any idea how it starts, but once it does, I fear all seven kingdoms will see it. And feeling that way I have concern for my home, Harroway." He said Harroway with a smile, allowing his fondess for it to show. Mikel wanted to ask of the City's preparations, of Lord Roote's intentions in the coming war, what the city might need and many other things. But instead of letting all of that come tumbling out he fell quiet and hoped the Lord would address his concerns without him having to ask.

Lord Roote has few surprises on offer, they should be far enough away from Raventree and Stone Hedge not to worry too much, but war will eventually reach Harroway, he might hope that no army will find cause to march past, meaning through, their lands, but of that he finds doubtful, the lands watered by the Trident are in between too many places where armies will be marching from.

Having been in the Reach Mikel inquires about the state and inclination of Harroway's neighbors to the North, in the Vale, and wonders if they have expressed a willingness to assist Harroway should trouble come? Mikel knew better then to believe the question naïve, after all Harroway was one of the largest towns in the Riverlands and sat on a river coming off an inlet from the Bay of Crabs fed by the Narrow Sea and so benefited from trade by land, river, and once removed by sea. The nearer of the lands in the vale would appreciate this.

It doesn't really matter which army passes by, it will need feeding and they'll forage as per necessity, but if you are on their side, they probably won't sack your town.

Mikel had hoped to see if any alliances had been made in advance of what was to come, even just local ones made for mutual benefit. But he did not get the impression that such was the case, and he felt let down - though was careful not to show it.
"Is there any way I could be of service to bring more security to Harroway should the worst come to pass, Lord?"

Not unless Mikel would change his oath of fealty, but that might just bring Ser Otho Bracken to Harroway, so who's to say what he can do?

Mikel smiles, thanking Lord Roote for such flattery but with trouble on the horizon he would feel a hollow Knight indeed to abandon the Lord he had so recently sworn to. Having asked about preparedness in an indirect way, then about being generally helpful to the Lord of the town his family was from, Mikel thought it prudent to ask one last question before departing. Are there any troubles facing Harroway that he might keep an eye open for?

Nothing specific, no.

After some more small talk, Mikel graciously thanks Lord Roote for his time and wishes him the best as he bows deeply before leaving.
