Meeting Lord Florent: 3d6+6 17The joust had been won, the melee had been fought, and now was the time for a feast, though it was still hours away. After the melee, Addam had washed and dressed in his finery, but instead of joining in revelry that preceded the feast, he instead made his way to the Florent encampment. "Ser Addam Velaryon here to speak to Lord Reynald Florent." he said to the sentry. He was here to formally ask for Lord Reynald's niece's hand. He wasn't quite sure what he would say yet, but many of other Lords wanted him as a suitor for their daughters, and surely Lord Florent would be no different.

Addam has to wait rather long, and see others arriving after him be shown in before him. A man free of arrogance might reason that lords and their sons would be gravely insulted by having to wait, while a sworn sword, even if a cousin of a hallowed house, should expect such a thing. Eventually Lord Reynald has time for him, a good host nonetheless, complementing on Addam's feats during the tourney.

Addam has no words for such dishonor, the dragon in him raising its head and flaring it’s nostrils every time a new comer is shown in before him. Lords Hewett and Middlebury would of shown him in from the moment he announced himself. He thought as he waited, longer and longer. Seven hells! Even lord Haywick would of come to his tent if bided, with his daughter on a silver platter if he knew of the honor Addam was granting him. He was just about to leave when the servant finally allowed him to enter.
What anger was present when he enter the lord’s pavilion soon vanished at Reynald’s hospitality and compliments. “Perhaps my accomplishments should be done in the name of House Florent instead of Starling,” he said nervously. For the first time in a long time, he was nervous. Unsure if this was truly the right choice. But now wasn’t the time for jitters. Now was the time to be steadfast and determined. Standing up straighter, regaining the composure and bravado that had lead him to so many triumphs, Addam made his offer. “My Lord, your time is precious so I won’t waste it. I stand before you to formally ask for your niece’s hand in marriage. Once we are wed, I will swear you my sword and take position in your household, and to win more glory and honor in both your name.”

Lady Lyanna would not mind be wedded to The Hero of the Rosewood rather than some fat lord somewhere to be sure, Lord Reynald notes, but did he not intend to court Lady Delia Hewett? Did Ser Loren Lannister prove to tough a rival? Or has the allure of the title of Lord Protector out in the sea lost it's appeal? And for that matter, what can an additional sworn sword have to offer Brightwater Keep than some fat lord cannot? For all Addam knows, Lord Florent may be testing him.

Addam smiled his sly grin. If Lord Reynald wants to play his games, then he would play along. "The Kitten of Lannisport was only able to wear to Lady Delia's favor because I sought a far greater prize. If he does manage to become Lord Protector of the Oakenseat, I wouldn't be surprise if I receive a letter in thanks from him."
"In truth, the title never really held such appeal." Addam's tone shift from his lighthearted manner to a more serious one. "I chased it because I could and I didn't stop to think if I wanted to. When my time comes, I don't want to remembered as fill in for another house."
"And I ask you, what can some fat lord offer you that you don't truly already have? Myself, on the other hand, can offer you knowledge that other lords and knights might not want you to know. They like me and they trust me. Bloodraven knows this. In fact, that why he offered me Lyanna's hand in return for what I know about the vulture hunt."

Did he now? Bloodraven is not Lady Lyanna's father for certain, he's nowhere near old enough, so how could he think himself able to offer her hand? But did Addam learn things in the Red Mountains? Something that if Lord Florent offered to give to Bloodraven would make the Great Bastard offer such boons as to make old fat lords look as unpalatable a groom for a Florent as Lord Eldon? Alternatively used to blackmail Lord Walgrave into giving a better offer for keeping the secret buried, if someone wants to dig up a body badly enough, others will want it's resting place to be hidden.

And just like that, Lord Reynald was hooked. "The smallfolk say that Bloodraven is some vile sorcerer. I shudder to think how he might of made it so. I did not witness this heinous act with my own two eyes, but once the rumors of Ser Vorian disappearence started to spread, well the dots we easy enough to connect. And from there, its all about knowing who to talk to." In truth, it was Bloodraven who connected the dots for Addam, but good Lord Florent didn't need to know that. "Ser Quentyn of Horn Hill is the man you seek. Consider this name a... token of my capabilities and willingness to see House Florent prosper. I do hope we can continue this conversation to an agreeable conclusion the next time we meet."

Reynald has never heard of this Ser Quentyn of Horn Hill, a knight of the hedge, surely. Not necessarily the best of witnesses, but a bath, fine clothes and a place at a lord's table can do wonders for that. But first he must be found.

"A task that shouldn't be to difficult for a lord your caliber. Though if your attention is required elsewhere, and you need me to find this hedge knight, than all My Lord needs to do is ask."

What does this man know which makes him worth finding?

Addam looked at the wise word perplexed. He thought he had been clear as to what this man knew. “He was a witness to the disappearance of Ser Vorian Dayne.” Or so Bloodraven would believe.

Addam offered a slight nod at his response. After all, he could only lead the horse to water. "Well then, I won't take up any more of your precious time."
He got up to leave, but turned back at the entrance to ask one more thing. "I nearly forgot to ask. With the looming conflict between the Brackens and Blackwoods, what are the expectations with your sworn swords, present and future, in regards to the matter? Would they be allowed to partake in the conflict, or would it be frown upon to do so?" It would be prudent to not angry his future liege lord.

Lord Reynald thinks it best to not get involved in such things, as much as forgiveness might be granted for breaking the king's peace, the Iron Throne would surely be displeased with any who takes acts which they surely must know would be offered no permission for if one had asked. Besides, the outcome doesn't matter much anyway.

There was no hiding the disappointment on the young knihgt's face, not that he had expected a different answer. "I will take that into consideration my lord."
