[Option B: Help Lord Willem against the Freys.] Black Tom has earned his moniker and no mistake. But am I Lord Starling's man.
Roland had sworn his sword to Kingsbridge and therefore Lord Starling had to be his priority. He briefly considered facing Black Tom alone, sacrificing his own progress to a protect a man he didn't know and sending his comrades to aid Lord Starling. But experience told him this was a fool's choice that sought to serve too many masters and failed all of them. A group of Companions might have the discipline to separate in such a fashion, but not the loose group of friends he had assembled. It was unfair and poor leadership to such a maneuver of men that that not served together. He trusted his friend Mikel to see off Ser Otho if it came to swords and House Merryweather would now face a united force if their dogs tried to cut their way to Lord Starling to continue the feud. "Virtue and Victory!" he shouted, waving his sword and fighting towards his lord's winged bridge. Melee Scene 2 Initiative: 5d6k4-2 13CD: 13 AR: 11 Health: 12/12 I/W/F: 0/0/0

The Freys appears to have the companions in a lock, with their bannermen of House Haigh wheeling around to hit Lord Willem's men in the flank, one by one the knights of Kingsbridge would be overwhelmed and defeated. A sound strategy in battle to be sure, but most dishonorable in a noble test of skill. Roland has a chance to teach them the lesson that when there remains knights remembering the words said when the sword was dubbed on their shoulders, it will never pay to break them.
Taking on either Ser Kevan Haigh in single combat or Ser Gregor Haigh and Ser Kellan Haigh at the same time would be appropriate challenges here.

Hoping Ser Kevan's honourable reputation would restrain him to some extent, Roland attempted to tackle Ser Gregor and Ser Kellan. Here was a chance to ease the burden on his House and uphold honour.
Keeping ahead of Redtusk in the count of foes defeated doubtless played some part too.

The Haigh Brothers might be known for gallantry, or at least the elder. But what is a knight to do when his lord treasures victory more than glory and honor? He might leave, but the Haighs are landed knights, if they do, their sons and grandsons will not inherit the holdfast which have been in the family for generations. For some knights, leaving carries greater costs than others.

Full Plate, Coursers, Large Shield, Superior Longswords. Not acting quite so gallant as their reputation might suggest, working together is their game.

When outnumbered a knight had to swiftly seek to thin the field. Had he not done so when he slew Alicent's kin in the Dornish Wars when but a squire? And during the ambush at Highgarden? Resolved to action, Roland delivered a ringing blow to the helm of one of his foes, the full weight of man and horse behind his charge. CD: 13->15 (LBF I 2B) AR: 11 Health: 12/12 I/W/F: 0/0/0 R1 Charge Gregor Haigh (LBF -2B): 8d6k4+3 20 - 3 DoS = 3x8 = 24 Damage -10 = 14 Damage, so hopefully enough for a yield if they're following the same thinking on yielding before injuries as other NPcs

Roland discarded the idea of fighting defensively and catching his breath to prepare himself for subsequent fights. His lord was caught in a pincer movement and he should not treat the melee falsely by fighting more cautiously than he would in a true battle. He hammered down overhand strikes at Ser Kellan, targeting the gap between breastplate and pauldron. Jaime, Marq, Gwayne, Pommingham: 21-8d6k6 -5 24-6d6 5 2#30-6d6 7 10So Jaime is fine, gives Roland +1 assist. Marq CyB: 3d6 16 8/9 Gwayne CyB: 3d6 5 4/9 Roland Pommingham is overpowered by Ser Kevan, both Ser Marq and Ser Gwayne takes a battering against other Frey Knights. Roland *could* recruit, though it's possible that his and Addam's teams are small enough to be merged after scene 3 (unlikely that Vardis&rest all go the way of Lord Willem in scene 2), also possible that Addam might recruit replacements and you can still have two teams running about.
