In appearance and manners, the septon can find no faults with Lady Delia, a cultivated image of innocence that surely have taken all the lessons of Lady Rhonda at heart. "I heard a very disturbing rumor that couldn't possibly be true, Septon Abelar, about you and the Rutting Boar." Her eyes are more inquisitive than condemning, it's hard to say what she hopes to hear.

"That you went there, and into the backrooms with, well, it is best not to repeat the exact words Lady Denyse used to describe her, but a lady she clearly was not" Delia says with such a straight face that one might indeed associate her with a child, most ladies, her age or otherwise, would find such news far too scandalous or exciting not to show it, most not quite so well behaved children probably would have been very mean also. Abelar maintains his cool, for now. "Lady Denyse knows not of what she speaks." Hmmm, this is rather coarse for Delia. "You know me well--I would never enter with such purpose." He narrows his eyes a bit. "You speak of things that should be beyond the ken for a young, proper lady. I understand that it is difficult to escape the whispers of court, but you must take care to cleanse your heart of these impure diversions. Only a pious heart can summon a worthy husband."

"Is that why Lady Alicent Florent was sent to the motherhouse awaiting such a time as a suitor would appear?" Delia asks ever so innocently, Alicent had soiled herself twice at the grand party at Highgarden, the one where the good septon was not invited. "Whispers at court are just words Lady Rhonda likes to say, but Lady Margaery adds that one should hear such words and make one's own judgement about them, even the truth can be bent and broken into something more twisted than the most wicked lie and the wise must keep their eyes and ears open, not ignore what is spoken, for that might lead to as much sorrow as to believe every word without any skepticism at all" It almost sounds as if she recites her teachings from memory. But she knows more than just to repeat what others have said, she learns from it as well. "Lady Denyse said what she said, but that does not make it true, and if it is true, it does not explain why she would say it anymore than it would if it was not true, merely her possible motives would do so" Abelar might try and tell her that he had not even been to the Rutted Boar, but if Denyse Cordwayner knows as much as that, others must too, Abelar would have noticed if she were there to see him enter or leave, word would get out if it had not already. Such is the way of gossip. Denyse Cordwayner would also have a motive in discrediting Abelar's reputation as he had called her a bastard.
Guess who's stubborn like her mother? ID: 12 (14 vs convince) Composure: 3/12 DR: 5 (7 vs convince) Objective: Make Abelar go full vindictive mode on Denyse Cordwayner. Incite vs Denyse: 6d6k4+3 21 2*4-2=6, Abelar now entering frustration land. As discussed, Delia isn't going to divulge anything Abelar can use (unless TN is ramped up by +6 because the real embarrassing stuff would reveal that she's as much of a conniving bitch as her mother and she knows it), so it's possible to try and yield for something else that's within her grasp to offer, though her reach isn't all that long. She's mostly just a clever teenager that knows more than a few tricks, but as of yet have very few people to use them on.

"Come now, that's, that's--tripe. I was investigating--anyway, have you had any altercations with Lady Denyse? She could be attempting to provoke." Abelar stammers a bit as he tries to corral the conversation. When did these women get so much spirit!? It's like trying to chase cats!

"Oh, she didn't say that to me specifically, no. I prefer other company than her." By which Delia might imply anything from that they didn't have much in common to find pleasure in to her being an arrogant bitch that soured any gathering, from what Abelar had heard, the latter was likely closer to the truth. "I thought it odd, though, Lady Denyse spoke with such conviction that the tale was quite believable, except, why would a man of such brightly burning faith avail himself of such wicked temptations? One such as her uncle, Ser Roland was mentioned too, she appeared to believe such a well, holding them up as examples that even the best of us can be wrong." She reports matter-of-factly, respectful and polite, without any embellishments or judgement in her tone or choice of words, many could learn from her example, most would have laced the telling with their own biases and agenda. Abelar had heard the same troubling news about Roland. The logical conclusion would be that Denyse wanted to discredit both Abelar and Roland, for reasons so obvious that Delia surely must have deduced that it was so. But the girl is far too polite to state it, it would not be unreasonable to assume that all Delia sought him out for was to determine whether or not the words were true so that she might understand the motives of Denyse, tough to what end, who can say? As much as she and her mother seems to be nothing alike, her mother remains Shiera Blackbriar, whose own filthy mouth sabotage her formidable talents, talents the daughter clearly has inherited, but nothing of that particular flaw.
I don't think Abelar can deduce that Delia has an agenda against Denyse, she's also heavily embellishing which she with her lying little deception roll ordinarily would sneak below the radar with, but looks like he's getting trounced either way. You'd also get -3 instead of +3 from disposition if using intimidate because of house rule. ID: 12 (14 vs convince) Composure: 2/12 DR: 5 (7 vs convince) Objective: Make Abelar go full vindictive mode on Denyse Cordwayner. Incite vs Denyse: 6d6k4+3 22 3*4-2=10 looks like.

Abelar silently offers a prayer for patience. "Look, your concern for my reputation is well-noted. But if I allowed other people's whispers to get to me, I would spend all my time racing about trying swat them. There are better things to do than concern ourselves with Denyse Cordwayner's opinions. She didn't say anything about you, did she?"

"Not in my hearing, or anyone's re-telling, no" She shakes her head. "Idle gossip is of little consequence, so Lady Margaery told me, the one who takes offense at such makes a fool of themselves, inviting and giving cause to ever more of it. However, targeted whispers meant to influence opinions cannot so easily be ignored, for if enough begins to repeat these tales to their friends, their friends will believe them because why would friends lie? And then your reputation is at risk." Abelar recognizes the truth in those words easily enough, and it appears that Delia understands the meaning of the phrase given to her, not just repeating the phrase itself. "It would seem to me that Lady Denyse did not much like the message from Oldtown and seeks to soil the reputation of the herald, but I am just a young maid with yet much to learn" Humble and polite, she clearly has the correct analysis, what other reason would there be for Denyse to say such things than to declare war upon Abelar? Mayhaps his lapse in judgement at the Rutting Boar was a trap laid by the Cordwayners? Adulterer's and bastards as they are?
That very much sounds like a taunt to me, but doesn't matter. ID: 12 (14 vs convince) Composure: 1/12 Frustration 1 DR: 5 (7 vs convince) Objective: Make Abelar go full vindictive mode on Denyse Cordwayner. Incite vs Denyse: 6d6k4+3 11 Horrible roll is still 2 DoS for 2*4-2=6, which looks like just enough to have Abelar all out of frustration for defeat, what best suits Delia's purposes is for the option of Abelar's disposition towards Denyse temporarily to be modified by -6 (3x incite ranks), fades by 2 per day, so let's say it would guide Abelar's actions for the Whitewalls stuff before re-setting to normal.

Abelar relaxes as it becomes clear that Delia is merely relaying gossip, rather than directly questioning whether he indulged at the Rutting Boar. "Yes, you are correct, child." Well, I dodged that stone. Looks like I have more Cords to cut though.
The septon cracks his knuckles.

"But how does one protect one-self against such slander, then?" Behind her face, it seems her mind churns. "Simply claiming that one did not do it usually does not work much I hear."

"Unfortunately, the only way to repel slander is to answer with a cutting truth. Just as I did at the tribunals, I must do so again here."

Delia aptly picks a quote from The Seven Pointed Star on the matter, as much a statement of encouragement as commentary.
