Ser Benjen is a strong warrior, not a jousting specialist, but an opponent that should give Trystane pause, and he would certainly not wish for a settlement on foot.

Trystane tries to balance security in the saddle with an aggressive, lance-smashing charge, hoping that he has correctly assessed that Ser Benjen will try to take the match to the ground quickly, perhaps making him a little more vulnerable to unhorsing. He quickly finds that either his opponent is sturdier than anticipated, or his attempt to hedge his bets has led to him weakening his charge.

"The Pink Monster" lived up to his moniker, a most imposing sight. By reputation he was as well balanced in combat as his family's heron emblem, yet as sturdy as the twin castles owned by his Frey liege. So far, the Riverlander had a narrow edge, but there was still room for Trystane to adapt his tactics and prevail, or to bolster his reputaiton for chivalry by conceding after six passes or a full nine. PR: 19 AR: 10 Health: 12/12 [OOC: I think your Fighting rolls are missing some of your static bonuses. Shit, that was close!Ser Benjen proves more formidable than expected, and makes it abundantly clear that Trystane needs to change his tactics or face certain elimination. Trying to play it safe just isn't going to cut it. Besides, where is the fun in a bunch of defensive passes where nothing happens? The crowd are here to see shattering lances and unhorsed knights! Well, he might become one of the latter for it, but he throws all caution to the wind and puts his full force behind his charge, with the words in his mind that are becoming almost a motto for him. Fuck it. If I'm going out, at least I'll go out in spectacular fashion.

After the third pass, Ser Benjen plucks a stray shard of lance from betwixt his breastplate and pauldron, tossing it aside. Monster though he may be, all good knights and birds know how to preen. He takes up his next lance, prompting the Riverlander crowd to swell with support. With that, he gives his horse an exaggerated kick (a signal for Trystane to do the same, as the trumpeter is resting) and rumbles forward. When Ser Trystane lifts in his stirrups, a few ladies shriek. The two knights clash together. This time, Trystane scores the better hit, although his unorthodox tactics almost cost him his seat. The master of games licks the tip of his quill, hesitating before deciding how to award the pass. The Dornishman hit harder, but displayed an unseemly desire for victory. This is a field of chivalry, not some bare-knuckle contest in one of Fairmarket's disreputable alleys. Indeed, it takes a special kind of blackguard to ride with less honor than Ser Benjen, who takes a lewd jape for a moniker. The master of games may not be lettered, but his command of etiquette is unmatched. As is his command of rules. Grudgingly, he scratches a mark on his scroll beside the sigil of the knight who rode the better pass, Ser Trystane. Again they charge on, with Ser Benjen now pounding Trystane. The crowd is on their feet, cheering on their countryman Ser Benjen and his daring, wanton opponent. After the pass, Ser Benjen throws down his shattered lance and gestures quickly for another. Time to put the Dornish snake in his place! Time to douse the pepper-addled bastard with grass and dirt! Time to get fucked by the Pink Monster! Ser Benjen cruises the field, dropping his lance tip slowly as Ser Trystane rides like a desperado with but a day to live. Both lances break and the knights shudder like ragdolls. Ser Trystane rocks to and fro, keeping his seat. But Ser Benjen cannot maintain. Having lost a stirrup, each bouncing gallop sends him keeling further to his right. When his helm is no higher than his horse's shoulder, he abandons all hope and allows himself to fall, rather than cling to and risk slipping 'neath the hooves of his thundr'ous steed. Bedlam ensues in the stands. A highborn lady in a blue dress has fainted at the sight of the fiery Dornish knight taking down another Riverlander. Meanwhile, down in the commons they have a new favorite.
PR: 19 Whitewalls Benjen Erenford R4-6, N;SiS;CyB: 3#7d6k4+5 22 25 23 3#6d6k4+1 21 22 14 3#4d6 18 12 13That's 1/2/1 DOS for Benjen, meaning TNs of 13/17/13, which Trystane passes. As for your rolls, I think your +14 should be 5d6k3+4 (AH) +1 (EF) +3 (A3) +2 (Tourney Knight) + 2 (HiS) = 5d6k3+12? That would mean you hit for 27/23/25, or 2/1/2 DOS, imposing SiS TNs of 17/13/17. Benjen fails the last one. All the stuff about aggressive tactics being unchivalrous is just my gloss on anti-Dornish prejudice. If you had ridden conservatively, the master of games's inner monologue would have been that the simpering Dornish coward is too scared to hit hard.

[Holy hell that was a great write-up! I was genuinely in suspense reading it! Thank you so much!]
The tumult in the stands rings almost musically in Trystane's ears. That had been possibly the closest-won tilt he'd ever had, and his boldness had paid off.
It can only get harder from here, lad. Don't let those cheers go to your head.
Ser Owyn cautioning him in his mind again. But nonetheless, he lets Flint prance along gaily as he rounds and trots toward where Ser Benjen fell. He flips up his visor to address the man.
"Bloody hells, Ser, you made me work for that! Well ridden!" he praises heartily, though he readies to prance on by if the Pink Monster tries to take a bite.
