The setting sun cast a long shadow over the fields and the most recent showdown between Starling and Merryweather likewise cast its own shadow over Whitewalls.
Just as before, Wildfyre arrives fully armored atop a fully armored horse. He wouldn’t let his mount die so easily should Rennifer choose to fight dirty as he expected. Ser Daeron offers no taunts or insults to his foe as he readies himself for probably his most dangerous duel to date.

Trystane anxiously watches his half-brother ride out onto the field. He has no doubt in Ser Daeron's capabilities, but he does not trust Rennifer an inch. He had come armed and armoured, just in case things escalated beyond single combat. He had even prayed before heading to the stands, imploring the Gods to make sure Rennifer Waters did not triumph. It just had to be that way, because he dared not think on what he might do otherwise. Laena had told him to leave it all well alone, and she was wise to do so. Of course she was. But wisdom was not something Trystane always listened to.
Wipe the smug grin off that pigfucker's face, brother. Bring his dog down.

Armed and armoured, Roland stood ready to assist Daeron in the absence of a squire.
One of the few men to face Rennifer and live, Roland knew what his companion risked for the sake of Starling honour.
At least when Roland had faced this towering demon he had some measure of control. Here he was powerless to intervene.
He removed his gauntlets, handing them to his own squire Hugh and drying his hands on his tabard.
It must be the heat, nothing more.
But the hour was late and the Riverlands were cooler than his homeland's in the Reach. Unable to deceive his fellow nobility, Roland could rest assured that he was at least able to lie to himself.

Ser Rennifer is dressed to kill, no cloak to get in his way or get stuck, not so much as a tabard, blood-red flail upon black is his rather appropriate sigil, he takes his time in ominous approach without much of a word. His black charger mailed as heavily as himself. He carries flail, hammer and morningstar aside from his lance and a spare shield slung across his back.

Naturally, Laena was watching.
She had no great hope that her brother would win, she merely hoped he would survive.
He amused her.
Given the clearly personal animosity between him and Lord Eldon, however, she didn't rate his chances particularly high.
So, while she was restrained, she was among the many cheering for Ser Daeron's victory with her mouth, and planning her attire for his funeral with her mind.

It’s now or never.Without any fanfare Daeron charges forward, but perhaps his nerves got the better of him as his lance failed to penetrate Ser Rennifer’s tight defense. The man did defeat Blackfyre after all...

Post by Lynesse Daverhyl on May 17, 2019 4:42:54 GMT 1
Merryweather and Wildfyre, two raging storms of unpredictability that Lynesse had tried, and thus far largely failed, to turn to her own ends.
I did not warn you of Bloodraven's preparations so that you would get yourself killed duelling the Horsebane, she thought furiously. Indeed, she had hoped her overdressed descriptions of the looming Blackwood threat might focus Ser Daeron on the more important task at hand, but alas his personal enmity with Lord Eldon trumped everything.
And on the other end of the field Ser Rennifer, a deadly, vicious brute by every account. And yet... he was Merryweather's strength personified. Every challenge he defeated secured House Merryweather, but his defeat would undo that perception. If Lynesse's own fate was mapped out, and she was to be bound to Lord Eldon, then Rennifer must surely triumph, or the wolves would circle closer to Eldon, and his family. Meanwhile, every brutal act consolidated Eldon's reputation as a man to be hated, "Lord Abomination". Another body added to the pyre would only give the wolves a greater thirst for Merryweather blood.
The was no good outcome here, to Lynesse's thinking, though the death of either man was likely worse than an accepted yield. She did not imagine either man was like to offer or accept such a compromise of their own accord.
[If either man looks defeated, Lynesse will be among those in the gallery calling for mercy]

Ser Rennifer's opening charge is brutal, likely to have killed Daeron's horse, had his aim again been as low as his character, barding or no. This time, the lance punches through the plates of Daeron's shoulder, he draws blood as he rips it free and promptly sticks it right back into the hole to get it stuck again. Most in the crowd with an eye for such thinks Daeron has already lost, assuming he'll even live. Only the monumentally stupid would draw their sword and court death any further they agree. Rennifer HiS: 7d6k4+7 29 6d6k4-2 17 6d6k4 173 DoS is 3*13-11=28, also impaled. Holding onto his lance: 8d6k5 20 Holds on. Initiative: 6d6k4-3 12Yank lance free: 8d6k5 23 2 DoS, so deals 13-11=2 damage. Attack with lance as weapon: 7d6k5+1 25 3*5-11=4 damage, impaled again. Holding onto his lance: 8d6k5 21 Holds on, so Daeron can't move away. CD 16 AR 10 Health 12 If the initial impalement doesn't happen because of some reason, he'd draw his ball and chain and attack with that instead of lance.

Bitter tears entered Daeron’s eyes, fortunately hidden by his helm, both for the pain and his shame. Being stabbed, twice, with a lance fucking hurt and Rennifer, for all of his moral flaws, sure knew how to land such a blow. He struck first, struck harder, and just as soon as it started, Daeron knew that it was over. For a moment he almost wanted to continue the duel and die, preferring death before dishonor. However, despite all of his bluster earlier that he expressed to Lynesse he had no desire to die. Not here. Not today. His hand set on his sword hilt, he simply cried out, “I yield.”.

Fuck!
The sickening sight of Rennifer’s brutal assault makes Trystane’s heart sink and fill up with even more hatred of Rennifer than ever.
Trying to deal with this honourably was a mistake.

Silence fills the crowds, there is relief at Daeron surviving, but no cheers for the victor. And there he is, Lord Abomination claiming that by yielding, Daeron has admitted to rigging the drawing and thus he must be disqualified from the joust, making Eldon winning by forfeit and, undoubtedly just to rub salt into the wounds, owe Lord Eldon horse and armor to ransom. Such a ransom would hardly make any notable difference to his ledgers, no, the pig just wants a trophy to hang over the bed where he rapes the daughters of his smallfolk. At once Lord Starling jumps from his seat to make a point to the contrary, however respected he is, and loathed that the pig happens to be, Lord Eldon's power does play to his favor, who would have both the boldness and eloquence to speak against him with enough force to sway Lord Butterwell? Convince (penalty for everyone hating him applied): 8d6k5-3 23Anyone might argue for or against him, which is a simple intrigue (convince or incite) against TN 13 -Whoever argues against him is at -2 disposition with Eldon and +2 with Willem and Lysette (max to 5). -One might also argue in his favor, gaining +2 disposition with Eldon (max to 5) and suffering -2 with Willem and Lysette. -Assists possible for half disposition gains (and full disposition hits) -Results are tallied against TN 13, if Eldon's side gets the roll with the highest total DoS, Daeron is disqualified and Eldon gets to take his place, if the opposing side matches or exceeds this, Daeron will proceed to the next round. Willem is proud: 4d6k3 6Willem spends influence: 7d6k5+3 19Willem will spend influence for +1D to the rolls of Starling PC's.

[Do modifiers like Charismatic or Chivalry affect the pool?]

It's a simple intrigue, so you'd get the +1 from charismatic and the regular +2/+3 bonus from chivalry.
