Ser Nestor Velaryon keeps his seat and breaks all his lances against Ser Robb Reyne, a good showing against such powerful blows, but The Red Lion is awarded the victory on account of a superior display of skill. Ser Ulbert Blackwood is unhorsed in the first tilt against Ser Daemon Blackfyre, surely as the tourney master had hoped, The Ironhand is like to attempt to challenge Brackens in the later rounds, and that is a recipe for tragedy. Ser Normyn Flowers falls victim to shoddy horsemanship against Ser Roland Redwyne's first lance, the tourney master sending a message that there will be no attempted murders in the list if one wants to progress far into the tourney, although he seems to conspicuously have overlooked the acts of the knight wearing the ribbon of the host's daughter. Lord Rowan breaks his lance in the first tilt against Lord Lannister, but that is also all he accomplishes in this match as he is promptly unhorsed. Ser Byren Flowers proves his valor by unhorsing Bloodraven on the second tilt, the Great Bastard almost keeping his seat against the stellar placement of the lance. Lord Manfred Lothston needs only one tilt to unhorse Ser Jasper Flowers, suggesting that his run at Highgarden might not be such a fluke. Ser Abelar Hightower misses his first lance against Lord Cuy, but taking up an aggressive stance he pushes his opponent onto the defensive and in the third and final tilt it is Lord Lancel who misses his lance, thus Ser Abelar secures a draw. Lord Vance misses his second lance against Farman Flowers, his attempt at clawing back is unsuccessful and he finds himself eliminated. Lords Oakheart and Mallister breaks all their lances against one another, their match being deemed a draw. Ser Eustace Daverhyl and Ser Symon Starkwood also breaks their lances and are awarded a draw. Lord Florent also secures himself a draw against Ser Dunstan Terrick with all their lances broken. The field tightens considerably in this round, though none of the favorites suffers any mishaps against lower ranked foes, though both Ser Preston Oakheart and Ser Symon Tarly nearly met an early end. Notable contestants who do not progress to round 3:
Horas Tully Glendon Hewett Brynden Butterwell Aegon Rivers Addam Frey Clarence Charlton Alan Harlton Manfryd Mooton Florian Mooton Oswyn Erenford Addam Darklyn Symon Thorne Eddard Darklyn Kevan Haigh Steffon Whent Raymun Hightower Zachery Redwyne Vardis of Kingsbridge Hoster Bracken Rhys Daverhyl Samwell Tully Ulf of Kingsbridge Cuthbert Mandrake Myles Mooton Unwin Piper Ellis Erenford Aladore Florent Samwell Graceford Dunstan of Kingsbridge Kellan Haigh Podrick Strickland
I underestimated the effect of having 750 fewer unnamed knights which just was a number on the spreadsheet, basically making this tourney a lot tougher on the "mid-level" jousters than at Highgarden, which is a design issue, the top-flight is less competitive though, but there is also less opportunity for lucky streaks of beatable opponents as some characters experienced, not certain as to how much behind the scenes fudging can be done this far in to dampen the effects.
