Again Lord Oakheart eludes me. Mayhap I shall have to issue a challenge at some future tourney if given the chance. While not his younger brother's equal as a full fledged tourney knight, Lord Appleton was still well known as a skilled and gallant knight. Such was understandable, given a lord's duties. In a better world, the Cordwayner brothers would have of a pair with the Appletons, pushing one another on to great achievements and following in their storied family's history. Alas, this was not such a world. Roland could not afford to be complacent against such a man, however much happier the man's family life. The Appletons cares so much for jousting and tournaments that all three brothers remains unwed, their family life is spent together on the road more often than not. Lord Addison is not the most potent of the three.

Perhaps still tired or distracted from his triumph against Redtusk, Roland deprived Lord Appleton of his seat but simultaneously lost his own. It was almost Lord Appleton's day, and at the very least he had avoided surrendering a ransom and could tell men in days to come he had unhorsed the Black Tourney's runner-up. Roland rose unharmed but chastened, warmly applauding his opponent and resolving to do better in the next round.
