"So you think me innocent and yet want to see me sentenced so they won't look for the real murderer?" Dagos smirks. "How very noble!" The crowd is starting to murmur that Balon might as well yield if he doesn't want to fight.

"The living can be exonerated, the dead can not." Balon didn't like Dagos but he didn't begrudge him for his skepticism. "People who believe you to be innocent will continue to look for the real culprit. The only difference is if you walk away a free man you become a loose end that gets tied up." Balon shrugged, as best as one could in full plate, "Your call."
Waiting on his response before I post my action.

"Only a Reachman would think a life of certain bondage more appealing than a life of freedom with unknown risks." Dagos taunts. "I will take my chances."

"You're entitled to have an opinion. Even when it's the wrong one." Balon wasn't surprised Dagos refused to take the long view. If Balon was being honest with himself he wouldn't believe Dagos if their roles were reversed. Regardless Balon wasn't a moron. He understood tactics and he wasn't going to charge into a prepared spear position over and over and expect a different result. Suicide is for the idiots and Balon was no idiot.
GA: Counterattack
Balon addressed Lord Tyrell. "This man makes a mockery of our Andal traditions and the right to a trial by combat. I ask a recess be granted so I may change armor and force this man to fight as the Seven intended." It was a long shot but if the people watching thought Balon would throw himself upon Dagos' spear to appease "justice" then they were stupid. Or we can stand here and see which dies of old age first.

There is some small discussion on the stands, Lord Tyrell with his family, Septon Janos, Lord Marq and Lady Alicent to one side, with Lady Amerei none too pleased with Alicent being between them, the two princes on the other. The crowd mostly murmuring and not in favor of Balon. Lord Leo makes a sign and Septon Janos rises, his voice booming out for all to hear. "If the father bid you stay your blade, ser, or the warrior fails to guide it to strike true, then perhaps the intent of The Seven is thus made clear!" Apparently, Lord Tyrell have little desire to allow Balon to reduce his disadvantage, instead the septon just gave him a pretext to declare Dagos innocent if Balon does not advance. For certain the Longthorn is not guided by loyalty to the cause, one might even think it a clever scheme if Lord Leo thinks the man innocent, pretend to give in to the demands of those who wishes to see Dornish blood, but have the combat happen on Ser Dagos' terms and happily force Balon to play along with those rules or else declare him to have forfeited the combat. Too clever a scheme by far than what Lord Leo usually would be thought capable of.
Dagos keeps the counterattack up.

What a joke. Balon had a few choice words he wanted to say but ultimately kept them to himself. The whole trial had been a farce, why should the combat be any different? His interest in House Bridges had been minimal and he only volunteered because he looked to curry favor and beat up on a Dornishman. Now that he wasn't going to be allowed to fight on fair terms he had to intention to get hurt with the Grand Melee looming. After a moment to consider his words Balon settled on, "I'm not one to question the will of the Seven."
Balon turned to Dagos, raised his sword in salute, and snidely said, "Good luck." As Balon walked away his anger grew. How Dagos conducted himself was insulting. How Lord Leo denied his request was insulting. The half-breed Ser Desmond ruling House Bridges was insulting. Lord Marq's jape was insulting. Yes, Balon's interest in House Bridges *had* been minimal. Now he felt like he should pay a little more attention to Laughing Stream. After all Ser Farman appeared to support Ser Daemon and wouldn't a Blackfyre supporter be a much better lord than a half-Dornish shit-stain? Men like Desmond and Dagos had to be excised from the Reach while men like Farman and Jonothor Wellbeck needed to be put into positions of power.

"The Gods have made their will known" Lord Leo declares. "Ser Dagos Manwoody is deemed innocent of the crimes for which he stood accused." There mostly seems to be agreement in the stands that this was the just outcome, though not among those who would see Ser Daemon Blackfyre crowned as king without a care for the means of which that end is to be achieved, or those who had judged Ser Dagos guilty of the crime of being a Dornishman, which would condemn him to death all the same.
