"All trials have their own surprises, but the gods might have their own purposes for granting victory. Perhaps the Faith was being punished for forgetting its humility and building grand edifices and armies? Such things are generally reserved for kings, not clergy.
I imagine that the Companions would provide at least a majority of those riding against Lord Eldon, but I also imagine that a number of gallant champions will offer their swords to our cause, such as Ser Daemon or Prince Baelor. I can't imagine that Lord Willem will deny their inclusion."

Abelar turns his eyes away for a moment when Ser Daeron speculates of the Faith Militant. He's known for grasp of sword, not history. Best let this go.
"The Faith held arms for thousands of years, so that would be a curious turn, especially given Maegor's character." He waves a hand. "Of a possible trial of arms . . . would not Prince Baelor's appearance lend an unfortunate political sheen to the affair? He would be seen to be fighting for Lady Alicent and Dorne as much as for Starling. It would better serve if Starling's seven were all staunch men of the Reach, removed from ties to Dorne or the crown." [D9 Daeron] Zealot drawback: 6d6k4 16 (success)

"I had thought of that, but he represents the political opposite of Ser Daemon. If he and Blackfyre can come together to serve justice against a truly unworthy monster, then the entire kingdom will know that House Merryweather is doomed as long as Lord Eldon leads it.
Now do I have doubts of such an event? Yes. But a man can dream, can't he?"

"I expect others might find such a pairing more bitter than sweet, if you catch my meaning. It would run counter to their ambitions, and they would stop at nothing to avert such a thing."

"I'm sure you're right Septon. In which case it's an opportunity for the chivalrous knights of Reach, and perhaps Ser Daemon to show that they will not tolerate such behaviors, and that the consequences for such an injustice is more than a few defeated knights in a tourney.
Again, this is a moot conversation unless you have found a noble willing to testify as a witness against Lord Eldon, or if you have ideas for an alternate means to bring him to justice."

Abelar's face lifts into a hint of a smile. "If I find find such a witness or means, it is good to know that virtuous knights stand ready to take up with cause."
[anything else?]

“Indeed, and perhaps soon the kingdom will be ruled by those who act justly, rather than just speak of it.”
[Nothing more from me unless Abelar wants to respond to his provocative closing remarks]

Abelar sighs. "I would advise caution, ser. You're Valyrian on both sides, and almost of an age with Ser Daemon. Put one of those swords in your hand and you could almost be his twin. His rival." Abelar shakes his head. "A dangerous thing to be should rebellion break out."
[Happy to continue or stop]
