"What would you have me do boy? Sit by idly as my lord is murdered? That's just not something that I can do.
That blackguard might lack any shred of honor, but he's got his pride and a reputation for being a fighter. A sufficiently insulting challenge, especially within earshot of his men might be enough to rouse him to face me instead lest he seem a coward in front of those whom he leads. He's a dangerous bastard to be sure, but I think I've got a shot against him, and in the event that he's foolish enough to have me peppered with bolts and tossed into a river, then the Longthorn will have his head for sure. I've made it very clear in the note that I left who's responsible for my murder should I not return."

And after having successfully pulled that one on Lord Starling, they will not see through it all at once? Besides, Daeron rides there intending to get Norren to duel him and somehow a note left behind is going to damn him if Daeron dies?
Better take up those hedge knight's on the offer of a surprise assault the squire thinks.

Daeron frowns at the squire's suggestion. He had not spent enough time at Kingsbridge if he was suggesting a midnight raid against the Longtable men, but such a daring attack might be the only option to save Lord Willem. However, such an option was not without its risks.
"What do you know of these hedge knights? Sers Marc and Andros. Their names are not known to me and I fear that they could just as easily be servants of Lord Eldon leading me into a trap as they could be reliable allies."

"Would that be any different from confronting him alone, if he had hoped to lure you to your doom?"
"Besides, they asked Ser Davos first, why would the pig be interested in ambushing him?"

*For flavor* FW&F Greenholt-Vindictive TN 16: 6d6k4 17 (Success) Daeron will do the wrong thing for the right reasons
He had plenty of reason to attack the Longtable camp in the dead of the night: hatred for Lord Piggy, revenge for the attempt on his life in the Riverlands, because he needed to feel better after falling to the Roughneck, but if he had to be honest his motivations were pure for once. Only to save Lord Willem was he willing to take this big of a risk. Should he fail he would certainly face death, either at the hands of the blackguards of House Merryweather or the executioner's axe and should he prevail he still risked dishonor and exile from the Companions. Today at least he was willing to place doing the right thing above his reputation. "Very well, summon these men, and when you're done don your own armor. Even *if* we take them unawares, these are vicious men who will offer us no quarter, we will need every advantage available."As he dismisses the squire, he briefly pauses. "Boy, what is your name again?" If he was going to potentially lead his squire to his death, he should at least know his name. He then paused again. "And do you know where we might find some firepots?"

A motley band of hedge knights and fortune seekers assembles, Lord Willem is as admired as Lord Eldon and his thugs is abhorred, volunteers set ahead to find the trail to their quarry, it is probably not a trap, but surprise is far from assured.
So lot's of moving parts, rolls to make in order:
Chance TN 10 -Gain +1 on next roll on success. -Critical failure: Can't track them down and can at most show up to the appointed place and time to observe the duel, any other tests are irrellevant. Chance TN 9 -Gain +1b on warfare tests on a success. -Suffer -1D on warfare tests on a critical failure.
Warfare (Command) TN 12 Warfare (Tactics) TN 12 -Success on both tests: Daeron&co springs a successful surprise attacks that completely overwhelms the enemy +1D on next two chance tests. -Per DoS: +2 on next two chance tests. -Per critical failure: -1D on next two chance tests.
Chance TN 10 -Success: Daeron will catch Norren off guard in only his nightshirt and whatever he could grab in his hands. -Simple failure: Norren will have time to equip chainmail. -Critical failure: Norren will have time to fully equip himself.
Chance TN 10 -Success: Utter annihilation of unnamed enemy NPC's with no casualties to Daeron's side. Interested parties will probably figure out what happened and who did it if they put effort into it. -Simle failure: Casualties and survivors getting away on both sides, public rumors about Daeron's involvement, but no decisive proof available. -Critical failure: Utter disaster, most of Daeron's force will be annihilated, reliable witnesses will be easy to produce.
A combat scene involving Norren will follow, chance tests will impact difficulty level and narrative (and maybe narrator gets creative).

Daeron always had considered himself a man of honor, up to the point that he drew a black mask up his face, swapped out his shield for a green one with a hastily painted white hand upon it, and set off with a band of men whose honor and distinction were well beneath that of the Companions. Right now he wasn't Ser Daeron Wildfyre, son of a king and sworn knight of House Starling, he was Daeron Waters, the Bastard of Driftmark with plans to slaughter an entire camp of men. Greenholt-Shenanigans-Chance TN 10: 2d6 7 Simple Failure, their band is able to find the camp but that's it. Greenholt-Shenanigans-Chance 9: 2d6 10 Success, +1b on Warfare Greenholt-Warfare (Command); Tactics TN 12: 5d6k3 13 4d6k3 12 (1 & 1 DOS, so +1D and +4 on next 2 tests) Greenholt-Shenanigans-Norren Chance TN 10: 3d6+4 18Greenholt-Shenanigans-Combat Chance TN 10: 3d6+4 10
The woods outside of Greenholt were unfamiliar to Daeron Waters, but fortunately for their motley band there was a Daeron Flowers present who claimed to know them like the back of his hand, a claim that could have been true, but with just the light of the moon he led them around a fair number of circles before they stumbled upon the Merryweather camp. In true Merryweather fashion their encampment was well-ordered and in a defensible location but tonight the Stranger smiled on their dark mission, sentries that should have been posted at multiple spots either were asleep or had never been ordered to duty. It was clear that they didn't expect any sort of attack from the honorable Starlings or their allies, an otherwise fair assumption, but tonight it would turn out to be a fatal mistake. Splitting his force into three parts, the Bastard of Driftmark had his toughest and (seemingly) most reliable men sweep in from two different directions, while what passed for light cavalry among this company were held in reserve to run down any survivors who might escape the assault. He couldn't risk any survivors telling their stories. Men would have their theories and rumors of course but they could only whisper so long as none of the Longtable men could speak. A snap of a twig and the crunching of dead leaves was all the warning that most of them got as the mob fell upon them. Those sleeping under the stars were run through by spear and sword while the "luckier" ones in tents had their posts knocked down while they were beaten like rats in a sack. None of this was of any concern for Daeron though, he was here for one man who was dangerous even when off guard and unarmed. Like an arrow flying true, he shot towards the largest tent in the middle of the tent, what he hoped was Ser Norren's.

The lack of light and need for silence meant horses could not be brought close, so the charge must happen on foot, such sentries there are silenced before the alarm can be raised and the Merryweather men are roused instead by war cries, chaos, confusion, steel and fire. But where Daeron's motley band seems competent at slaughtering those who offer them no threat, they back away at the sight of Ser Norren cold and menacing demeanor as he emerges from his tent with the pose of of a cornered Shadowcat and wielding a large two handed sword, properly armored, few knights could hope to stand up to him, but a nightshirt offers little such protection, a cautious knight would reason that defense would be his best offense, rely on his armor to weather Ser Norren's onslaught and cut at his unprotected arms and legs, for surely Daeron's bitter foe must know that he needs to land an early killing blow. Norren CD 11 AR 0 Health 15 Armored in nightshirt, carries Greatsword. One movement action sufficient to close distance, charging possible. Had he not recently met with Lord Florent and discussed strategies on weakening House Merryweather, Wildfyre would have been more than content to just cut down the one-eyed bastard in front of him; however, Ser Norren could have some uses alive as well. Perhaps Daeron could get what he wanted without (further) bloodshed? "You're unarmored, outnumbered, and more valuable to me alive. Surrender and you'll be spared, fight and you'll discover that your death is still pretty valuable to me."
Before combat Daeron would like to attempt to use a Simple Intrigue to Intimidate Ser Norren into surrendering. Between his Status (4), BoV (+1), and his temporary boon (+2) he can do a simple intimidate against someone with a Status of 4 or less. Greenholt Shenanigans-Simple Intrigue-Intimidate: 6d6k4+2 25

It is unclear if Ser Norren even heard as much as half the words over the noise and clamor of war cries, screams and the clash of swords, staves and axes against flesh or whatever makeshift shields and weapons the defenders could find to protect themselves with, and if so, did he even believe Daeron?
No matter the case, he advances with his blade held in firm grip.

He had hoped to take Ser Norren captive and deliver him to House Peake where a few nights of having his teeth pulled would give Lord Gormon enough dirt on Lord Piggy to wriggle out of marrying Lady Tanda and sink any chances of an alliance between the two houses. Maybe being run through a few times would make him change his mind? Daeron gives half a shrug, even if not he would still be more than pleased with a dead blackguard. Nevertheless, he would have to tread carefully with this one, he remembered being in Norren's position and how quickly he took down a fully armored opponent with the exact same weaponry. Both knights knows that Ser Norren must end the fight quickly with the only defense afforded to him being the heavy arching swings of his two-handed monstrosity sweeping before him to control and command space. Even in his armor, Daeron may not be able to take too many blows.
I think cautious not going to fly before Daeron's turn (but seems irrelevant in this case) Norren moves+Reckless Assault: 8d6k5+1 25 vs effective CD 11 (Powerful+2) That's 3*10-11=19 damage. "I can do this all day" he lied as he felt the hot blood trickling down through his armor. He would have to find a way to stop him from swinging that great bloody sword around so much, but until he came up with a better idea, Daeron would have to settle for his tried and true method of solving his problems, hitting them with a sword until they go away. Hacking at Norren's unprotected legs, he attempts to drive him back into the blazing campfire.
Daeron takes 1 Wound to offset damage and will spend 1 Fatigue to ignore it this round Greenholt-Red Blooded DC 16: 6d6k4 18Greenholt-Attack; Maneuver vs. Norren -1D Shadows: 2#8d6k4+1 16 24 (3 DOS, 1 DOS for [6x3]=18 damage to Norren and he is driven back towards the fire. Daeron cuts a gash in Norren's thigh, but the flaming tent the blackguard sidesteps and it feels as if though Daeron's first blow slows him naught at all. discretion might turn out to be the better part of valor this day, perhaps Daeron have done enough to prevent the duel or at least give Lord Willem a fighting chance? Perhaps Norren does not yet recognize his assailant? Although broken as Megelle's spirit had been after that fateful day, one thing she probably have the right of. Hope can be is such a liar. Norren's second blow was enough that Daeron couldn't muster up a smart comeback. Dropping the bowed remnants of his shield he pivoted on the balls of his feet and mustered his remaining strength into a swing at his enemy's unguarded torso. Not the most elegant of swordplay, but it would leave a mark. Satisfied that the blackguard wouldn't be killing his lord in a few hours, Daeron elected for a quick retreat. "That should do it boys," he grunted as he started putting some distance between himself and Norren.
Ouch! He takes another Wound to offset that damage, and another Fatigue to offset that Wound. Greenholt-2 Handed Reckless Attack: 9d6k4 22 (4 DOS) for (9x4)=36 damage LA: Move the hell away from Norren LA: Use another Fatigue to move further away CD: 9 (5) AR: 11 Health: 12/12 W/I/F: 2/0/3
