Robyn only scowled at Wildfyre's counter, finishing off the drink that swirled in his goblet. Is this truly how others viewed war? A constant struggle for victory, by any means necessary? He shook his head, trying to get the thought out of his mind. "Well then, Wildfyre, if we are to cross blades in the future, at least we both know where the other stands. And when you wake up with all your limbs intact, bruised and bloodied but whole, I pray the Mother grants you understanding," he smiled a grin of confidence, filled with pride, his eyes staring into Daeron.
"King Daeron," Robyn corrected, before letting out a chuckle, "Unless you meant the supporters of Blackfyre and yourself, since you have the same name. Do you seek the throne for own? Or do you truly believe your half brother Daemon has a better claim than you do?"

Daeron audibly sighs at Robyn's innocence.
Even after seeing this bloodletting he still thinks that this is some sort of game, a melee on a grander scale. A few blows from the Roughneck would shake those notions from him.
"I think you understand fully what I said. I have great aspirations, the Iron Throne is not one that I seek for myself. However, Ser Daemon is just, chivalrous, and understands what it means to be a knight, unlike the Iron Throne's current occupant who might be the first king to have never earned his spurs.
I mean can you even imagine? A king who was never a knight? Who's heard of such a thing? Even the Spongeholder managed to earn his spurs and participate in the occasional tourney and he's barely fit to rule a brothel!
Now I have no problem with seeking peace with Dorne and bringing them into the kingdom with diplomacy is prudent, especially when warfare has failed, but to reward treachery with offices and titles only encourages greater treachery!"
He begins to cough violently. Getting so worked up was painful on what was certainly a number of broken ribs, but then he continues albeit in a calmer tone.
"You must understand Ser, the Seven Kingdoms have prospered when strong, gallant men have sat upon the throne and they have faltered with under those who are weak and decadent. Should he assert his claim I will follow Ser Daemon because I fear what might become of realm otherwise. Can you imagine a time in which knighthood is little more than an honorary title and our privileges and rank are meaningless? You and I have worked so hard to earn and give value to the title 'Ser' and I for one would like to preserve its worth."

Robyn let the sigh go.
He doesnt understand, and probably never will. Mercy in war show strength, the fact that his opponent's blows *didn't* kill him should have been all he needed to understand that fact.
"I have never met Blackfyre, so I cannot speak one way or the other about his gallantry. Though, his skill with the blade is widely known, and I have nothing but the staunchest respect for him on that front. Should an opportunity arise where I meet the man, maybe my opinion on the matter might be more akin to yours," Robyn pauses, "I have never met King Daeron either, but the diplomacy he has managed to secure with Dorne is more than any strong, gallant man who reigned before him accomplished. He understands that peace is never won by slaughter, and that learned men are better advisors than schemers."
"You harshly chastise 'treachery' all the while suggesting treason." Robyn's face hardened, "Make no mistake, that is what you are suggesting. Supporting claims to the throne against the King is the definition of treason."
"When I arrived in the Riverlands, my first mission was to head to the Brackford and remind Ser Manfryd of his oath to his liege. I talked of oath breaking then, of treason, and my opinion of such hasnt changed. Those who break oaths are not worth the dirt on their treacherous boots." "You fear the disenfranchisement of the title of knight, yet, Ser," his voice lowered to a near growl, "You lack respect to that of King. Knight or no, King Daeron is King, and as a knight of the Realm our duty is to him and the lords who pledged fealty to him."

"You assume that learned men and schemers cannot be one in the same? You think that Bloodraven, Ser Ambrose Butterwell, and Ser Jon Qorgyle aren't schemers who are likely responsible for the poisoning of Lord Jon Hightower? Do you think that the men of the Citadel don't have their own plots and agendas? Lord Piggy is certainly a learned man and yet he's one of the most vile men in the kingdom.
The best advisors are men like Lord Starling, Ser Aubrey, or Redtusk, knights of proven honor who would never lead others astray and who stand for noble causes." His inclusion of the last two knights was no accident, they were, at that very moment, fighting against the Blackwoods and also of unimpeachable character.
"As for treason is it treasonous to stand up for what is right? Prince Jaehaerys disputed the claims of King Maegor and yet none condemn him as treacherous. In contrast House Qorgyle murdered a guest in cold blood, our lord paramount's father, and their 'punishment' is having one of their own being named to the Small Council. The Martells murdered our king under a flag of truce and their 'punishment' is what? Royal marriages and titles?
Again, I have no qualms with peace with Dorne, but peace must come with justice. Perhaps the Yronwoods or Daynes should rule Dorne on behalf of the king instead? They fought against the Reach, but they conducted themselves with honor and can be counted upon to not betray the Seven Kingdoms to advance themselves again.
As for fealty to the king, consider the hypothetical: what if Lord Tyrell decides that my view is correct and that Ser Daemon would make a better king? Would you break your oath to your lord? What if King Daeron decided that Ser Otho would make a better lord of Starkwood, would you keep your oath to the king?"
He then locks his violet Targaryen eyes with Robyn's
"Where I'm getting though is that at the end of the day we all make our final decisions based upon our character and values. To keep one oath another must likely be broken and I for one will follow and honor those with integrity, strength, and honor and I would encourage you to do the same." Keeping his voice calm and friendly now, he smiles as he tops off his glass as well as Ser Robyns.
"I would invite you to meet with Ser Daemon. I think you would like him. Even if it doesn't change your mind about things, it's important to know what you're fighting for or against."

Robyn listens to Daeron's counter, trying to control his emotions. He wasnt angry, but watching his argument be twisted against him only fueled his distaste of intrigue, and while he had a good grip on his expressions a few managed to slip past.
As Daeron's expression and tone changes, Robyn hands his goblet over with a nod, taking a drink before speaking.
"To answer your hypothetical, should Lord Leo do as you say, I would seek his council. If nothing else, my weak words should hold the weight of the blows I struck him with. If Ser Otho is named Lord of Starkwood, well," Robyn smiled slightly, "To take your advice, I would hold my oath to my family, the one with the most integrity and honor. And in that oath, no such beast shall take my father's place, or my brother's, when the time comes,"
"Your justification is sound, Ser," he raises his goblet, "While we have yet to cross swords, if your blade-work is anything like your wordplay, I would find myself severely outmatched,"
"Could you arrange a meeting between us?" Robyn leaned in closer, his boyish excitement now beginning to show through, "While I believe he would humor me, I cannot say I know where to find him. And despite all the distaste I spoke, he is still the best swordsman in the Realm,"

He gives an impish grin, happy to find common ground once more.
“Nor would I fault you for standing against Otho. The Brute has few allies and no friends, least of all Ser Daemon who twice defeated him at Highgarden.
As for meeting Ser Daemon, I’m sure we could arrange an audience. The Black Dragon is a fixture of high society and is likely to appear at any major tourney though I doubt that your lord father would be keen to invite him to visit Starkwood anytime soon. That being said, I know that he would be interested in meeting the young hero who saved Lady Falyse from a gruesome fate.”

Robyn smiled with excitement, his feet pattering the dirt gently before taking another drink, "You think so? I am very interested in meeting him, even if it is somewhere other than Starkwood,"
His face sank slowly, before Robyn looked down at his hands, no longer excited, "I do hope you are wrong, Ser," his eyes glanced up past his brow, "About the coming conflict. I hope that when we return to the Reach, the smell of blood and fire do not follow me. I hope that you can introduce me to the Black Dragon as a friend, and that the only time we cross blades it is followed by good wine and revelry," he raised his goblet, "As opposed to shit wine and rivalry,"
He tilted his head back as he finished the fresh cup Daeron poured for him, setting it on the ground as he stood. There was a slight wobble to his stance as he closed his eyes, finding his balance with his arms outstretched. He chuckled lightly, before looking down at Daeron, "I must apologize, but if I stay in this armor any longer I might rust inside it," he gave a salute, "By your leave, my friend, I will be expecting that invitation,"

He raises his cup to Ser Robyn one last time as the young knight takes his leave.
"I have a habit of being wrong about things, but I fear that I am correct in this matter.
However, until the Red Dragon and the Black Dragon fight one another I will continue to look forward to good wine, revelry, and perhaps new friends?"
His tone indicated that his final point was much a question as it was desire. If there was indeed to be a war to come having a few friends on the opposing side was always wise for the defeated, even if it carried the risk of heartbreak.
