Unexpectedly, Falyse moves about rubbing elbows and schmoozing at the Hightower court, pressing the point that gender matters little in how ably one could rule. Convinced by "Lady Ashford" that he is loosing, Ser Guyard reluctantly follows her recommendations as to how to turn the debate so vicious that a young pretty thing like her, with the skin complexion commonly only seen among the ladies of the night peddling themselves at the docks, is bound to lose. A knight is expected to come out of a battle tarnished by sweat, dirt and blood. A Lady, however, ought to remain pristine, so that no question about her activities may arise. But with this calculation, it would appear that he has grossly erred, shortly after his insults are delivered, the ladies of House Hightower locks ranks against him, young Lady Janna going as far as to blurt out that only a false knight would ever say such things, and then making very unladylike allegations about how he must obviously be compensating for something to belittle a lady so. When Ser Guyard demands her to take back those words, she doubles down on them instead. Alleging that where his brother and nephew bravely stood and fought so that his niece could live, proper knights are sworn to protect all women with their lives if need be, but Ser Guyard? Ser Guyard, would undoubtedly flee, rather appropriately given that he was born with a tail he has between his legs rather than what Lord Vardis and Ser Zacahary had in abundance. A rather highly uncharacteristic burst of anger from Lady Janna, otherwise known for her grace in all things. Such insults as she might deliver, have until now been skillfully veiled and subtle. Falyse takes option C: 4d6+2 17 5d6k3 13 6d6k4 21Falyse double vote: 4d6+2 14 5d6k3 18 6d6k4 211-1-2: 8*4=32 votes for Falyse, 96 when determining weight of stance C. 0-2-2: 4*4=16 votes for Falyse, does not count for stances. +2 Disposition with Falyse, Melara, Rhonda, Janna and Ellyn. -2 Disposition with Raymun and Abelar. Double votes if the insult goes unanswered, Guyard does not answer at least one insult, or Guyard answers this challenge and is defeated. As things stands:Falyse insulted by Guyard and Eldon/Rennifer, PC knights can volunteer to stand for her. Guyard insulted by Janna, this one he will need to answer himself unless additional insults are thrown his way, PC knights can volunteer to stand for Janna. Trystane/Addam gets dibs, and both should expect to emerge victorious, Rennifer is an entirely different story. I have enough NPC's lined up for all duels to be fought (which includes a brave enough fool to fancy himself able to prevail against Rennifer).

BlackmailLaena carefully spends a bit of coin to see what she can dig up that might influence the contest that actually matters - the one for the Hightower regency. Spending 3 GD for +1D to each test. TRoB - Secrets (Rhonda, Abelar, Raymun) - +1D for 3 GD: 7d6k5 21 Forgot to actually add the '3#' at the start, so that's Rhonda only. TRoB - Secrets (Abelar, Raymun) - +1D for 2 GD: 2#7d6k5 21 20TRoB - Secrets (Rhonda, Abelar, Raymun) - Chance 1 - TN7: 3#2d6 5 6 12 Interest will enter the random rumor list for Rhonda and Abelar TRoB - Secrets (Rhonda, Abelar, Raymun) - Chance 2 +1D for Raymun: 2#2d6 7 4 3d6 16TRoB - Secrets - Deception (Disguise) - TN 9: 6d6k4 18 2 DoS. Would have preferred 1 higher, but I'll take it. Changes the above rolls (for identification only) to 13, 10, 22 Things could get rather bad with that first roll, but the other two are likely okay. * * * EndorsementsLaena publicly puts her weight behind Lady Falyse in the wake of Ser Guyard's baseless slander of the poor woman. While she's more diplomatic about it than Lady Janna, her argument is a carefully measured critique of Ser Guyard. Ladies being emotional and erratic is a key reason for people considering them less able rulers, yet Lady Falyse has been able to maintain graceful in her public appearances, under extraordinarily difficult circumstances; and if she can handle that with aplomb, what can't she handle? Meanwhile, Ser Guyard, poor man, is clearly showing signs of completely falling apart under the strain of the contest - how else to explain his recent comments? And if he can't handle this properly, then should he really be trusted to be a steady regent in the trying times ahead? Notably, she restrains from taking a position on the wider political implications of the choice. Those who didn't know her well would simply see a polite, charismatic, reasonable, and decorous lady making common-sense arguments, bereft of the political colourings within so many other arguments. TRoB - Endorsement (Public, Falyse, no stance) - Audience - TN 15: 7d6k5+7 26 3 DoS TRoB - Endorsement (Public, Falyse, no stance) - Language (Breeding) - TN 12: 7d6k4 21 So close. 2 DoS TRoB - Endorsement (Public, Falyse, no stance) - Persuasion (Convince) - TN15: 5d6k4+1 20 2 DoS (+1 from Charismatic) 7*5 = 35 votes for Falyse. All successful, so doubled to 70 votes for Falyse. Not bad. NPC participation: Might Lady Rhonda Tyrell have an opinion, public or otherwise? (Trying to not just pick Marq for *everything*.)

Mild-mannered, Lady Rhonda Tyrell concerns herself naught with the petty squabbles over Lady Falyse's heritage, she speaks convincingly of the experience of a couple of decades of prosperity under the watchful eyes of Lady Regent Margaery Tyrell. Hardly much older than Lady Falyse is now at the beginning of her first regency, and recently widowed besides. Rhonda Tyrell goes public with C: 6d6k5+3 30 6d6k3 17 6d6k4 2010*(4+2+2)=80 votes for Falyse, 240 for option C

If everything that Laena and I have plotted goes according to plan, hopefully he will have a champion for Falyse to fight Rennifer Rhaegor waited till his sister gave him confirmation of Lady Falyse's agreement to their plot. Waiting was not something he liked doing, and being kept on a leash was even more aggravating. But if this plan was to work, they needed leverage. He set off and spoke where he could, mostly playing off Guyard's horrible folly and played to Falyse's strengths. While he wasn't putting everything he could into it, he had other business in Oldtown, he did shift his attention to the Regency. And, even if whatever champion they set forth didn't win, Rhaegor had a hunch that Lady Falyse could still win. But he was going to make sure that her champion did win.

In the wake of the grand debacle, it seems an easy thing for Lord Durwell to side squarely with The Hightower majority, whether sniffing out where the tide is turning, or simply convinced that Lady Falyse would be the most able candidate it is hard to say. Some claims that he always had a soft spot for pretty young ladies, others grumble about how often that man does things simply because he finds it funny with no real goal in mind. Some might wonder if he was simply waiting out the developments so that he might appear to cast the vote to signal to everyone else which side of the fence they ought to climb down. The man himself is quietly amused with how much other people are trying to read into his actions, but he is hardly surprised that they do. Public endorsement of Falyse, no stance: 10d6k7+3 31 7d6k4 21 8d6k5+3 294+2+3=9, for 90 votes in favor of Falyse. +2 disposition from Falyse. Whether or not Ser Guyard turned the mood against him, or Bloodraven's long tendrils are in play, both Lords Bulwer and Cuy, the latter largely ruled by his wife if rumors are to be believed, speaks up for Lady Falyse, a surprise considering their allegiances. They are joined by Lady Ellyn Beesbury, that other lady regnants finds it easier to consider themselves equally suited for rule as men is hardly surprising.

Whether Ser Guyard's words swayed them, or they were always inclined to support Lady Falyse is unknown. Ser Eustace surely must have political reasons to support her so openly, and he does have a few examples from the other side of the Red Mountains to list up, one might almost get the feeling that he enjoys rubbing these right under the sensitive noses of other Reachmen. Lord Mullendore's motives are harder to determine, but his position is hardly made unclear when he mentions that Ser Guyard obviously lacks the right temperament required of a regent and example for a young lord yet to come of age, not a man of many words when grave matters are to be discussed, if well known for his witticisms in more jolly settings, but what counsel he does have to offer is well worth heeding. Septon Roswyn also denounces Ser Guyard as a shame upon his spurs, having failed in his holy charges, whether his sermon is heartfelt or the sly godsworn can smell where the wind is blowing remains unknown. Total votes:
Falyse: 817 +12 pending challenge.
Guyard: 334 +164 pending challenge.
Obviously Falyse wins by a landslide. 817 votes to Falyse+12 pending challenge -68 that does not count for stances: 749 votes to Falyse+12 pending challenge 1158 with stance C+36 pending challenge.
So option C also wins by a landslide, (slim) majority even without the 3x weight.
Duels to be resolved (irrelevant for overall result): Eldon and Guyard insulting Falyse. Janna insulting Guyard.

While some might have feared worse outcomes, the duels fought over the matter largely occurs without incidence, Ser Aemon Flowers answers the insults made by Ser Guyard and Lord Durwell stands for Lady Janna, neither man finding any particular difficulty forcing a yield from their opponents. Ser Raymun Hightower answers Lord Eldon's insults, whether that is brave and gallant or simply a calculated move, Ser Raymun is outmatched by a Ser Rennifer who silently keeps battering his opponent's shield until a honorable yield can be accepted with nothing more than the blackguard turning to walk off the field.
Duels were fought. Falyse's and Willem Starling's disposition towards Guyard: +2 Falyse's disposition towards Aemon Flowers: +2 Janna's disposition towards Marq Durwell: +2 Falyse: +2 Blood Eldon: +1 Fire
