Septon Castos was stripped of many things, his dignity, his title, but more interestingly to others, his seat on the star tribunal. The politics of the faith tends to be rather stale, but it has attracted a great deal of interest as of late. The faith might tip the balance in determining the Hightower regency, and a word spoken in support of a claim to the throne could add many more swords to it's cause. Then there are the stirrings about reviving The Faith Militant, or at least other powers that the faith used to hold before Dragons ruled Westeros.
Narrator Note: This particular event will be broken up into multiple acts to conserve narrator sanity and hopefully make it easier to partake in.
NPC Participation: Each player may nominate an NPC to be featured throughout all acts of this event, though not everyone would be so inclined. Will be featured: Septon Roswyn. Likely to be present in Oldtown (or can act through agents) for the occasion: All Hightowers and their bannermen, Brynden Rivers, Margaery Tyrell, Reynald Florent, Gormon Peake, Thaddeus Rowan, Marq Durwell, Alekyne Yelshire and Kyra Orme.
Act 1 Challenge: Examine the candidates (one test per candidate): -Knowledge (Any) TN 12 -Each DoS will offer one piece of information about the candidate (Although presently, there isn't anything for a 4th DoS to reveal). -Results will be offered in good time to do the rest of the event. -You may forego testing for one candidate to gain +1D on a single other test (as if taking extra time). -You may forego testing for one candidate to instead assist someone else's test for the same candidate, you would then learn the same as they.
The candidates: 1. His Holiness, Septon Baldrick. 2. His Holiness, Septon Oberyn, once of House Martell. 3. His Holiness, Septon Lysandro, once of House Rogare, exiled from Lys. 4. His Holiness, Septon Roland 5. His Holiness, Septon Baelor, Lord Yelshire's half-brother and a Great Bastard, handed over to the faith at a young age.
Twist: You may approach one or more of the candidates to offer your services in their campaign. If accepted, you will generally be owed a minor favor if you publicly support them (and no other candidate) and a major if they are elected. Some candidates may be angered by the mere suggestion, and they will definitely be angered if they offered a favor for support and you back someone else instead. It may also be possible to make such deals with other interested parties (whether selling your support or buying theirs).
Special: Characters with significant ties to Oldtown (Lynesse, Rhaegor, maybe others), gains +2 to Streetwise tests.
Considerations for qualities: Septon: The +1D to knowledge tests very much applies. Connections: You may use your connections to make an additional streetwise test, each DoS allows you to attempt to determine which candidate a particular NPC supports. Prejudice: Oberyn is Dornish, Baelor is a Great Bastard (matters for later).

Septon Abelar stalks about the grounds of the Starry Sept, fiddling with a half-bald sunflower as he ponders the candidates for the Star Council seat. The septon's robes are freshly-pressed. Once he wandered the Reach in filth, asking forgiveness. Such things seem a distant memory now. Gone is the penitential dirt, that last thing that separated the stark white of his robes from the black cloak. Abelar's life is the cloth, and as he considers the future of the Faith, there is nothing left on him but black and white. That one is too timid, by his reputation.
A petal falls to the ground. And that one too bold, even to my eyes.
Another petal falls, sunny against the verdant grass. A sinner, he is.
This one falls torn and crumpled. And that one was used by sinners and sounded no alarum.Yellow somersaults down. And him. With what he's written, he should never have been considered. The septon plucks the last petal and holds it as he reflects on how to proceed. None are worthy, yet I doubt I could rally enough of my own support to displace them. I need to achieve the Rank of Most Devout first. So it comes to how this contest can help me secure what is rightfully mine. The Faith needs me. There can be no other way. Father, grant me the strength to sit in judgment of what must come next. There is only one way.
He allows the final bit of blossom to fall away. The yellow twirls and careens down, past the cloak and the robes. In its wake, nothing remains but black and white.
Holding the NPC nomination for later; will decide whom to support later as well. Empty Seat Knowledge (Education) [Septon] x5: 5#7d6k5 23 21 20 20 24 (I forgot about the Streetwise bonus--if that applies to me, I would have rolled that instead (assuming I still can use Septon), resulting in +1 DOS on Oberyn, Lysandro and Roland)

Laena was not typically one for meddling over-much with matters of the Faith. But these were interesting times, and maybe they'd give rise to an interesting candidate. While she was rather against the return of the Faith Militant (and their likely view of her as being merely kindling), the *right* kind of radical could make things interesting in the Faith for some time... Failing that, friends in high places were always useful.

Nominated NPC: Gormon Peake
Ser Laenor, son of Lord Gormon and heir to Starpike, was married to a Hightower. Lord Gormon and Lord Jon were beneficiaries of the Unworthy's reign and could be considered friends. Under the rule of King Daeron Gormon and Jon suffered and became co-conspirators to usurp control away from an undeserving man.
It was only natural for Lord Gormon to be present in Oldtown in ensure the *correct* choices were being made.

Nominated NPC: Lady Jeyne Cuy
A former member of House Hightower and now married to one of their vassals, Lady Jeyne certainly had the connections to Oldtown to know which strings to pull. Moreover, her desire and ability to undermine King Daeron has already been shown at Highgarden. It's unlikely that she would pass up an opportunity to advance the cause of the True King.

Lady Margaery may be old, though "still young enough of body" to undertake a "pilgrimage" to the Starry Sept, not many believes that story, but it could be true. Among her company is her great grandsson, Ser Willas, her grandson Ser Garret, Lady Alicent among other ladies of the Rose Court and enough knights to quite possibly make a decisive difference at The Red Fork, at least some of them would be inclined to believe they would. A wicked little dwarf joins her in her wheelhouse because Lady Margaery has travelled the Roseroad so many times as to "know the histories of every sight there is to see", though the local lords might offer news, the travel would be dull without Butterbump's true tellings of the lay of the lands, they always change and is responsive to the audience, a good laughter prolongs a good life, and sometimes she needs a low humming stream of words to lull her into her afternoon sleep. Though some suspect the shrewd old lady have other uses for the fool of fools. Butterbumps uses his connections for the benefit of his patron: 6#8d6k5 27 16 19 28 20 17So 4-1-2-4-2-2, what will the old lady do with that information? What will Butterbumps? The first we'll see, the latter ought to be amusing.

Oldtown is not far from Brightwater Keep, thus one should not be surprised should Lord Florent visit for one reason or the other. Lady Jeyne is a fixture at the Hightower, she is born there after-all, and whether pretext or not, none questions her desire to be in her childhood halls and next to the Citadel when giving birth, the first birth is said to get more difficult if advanced in age. That Lord Marq just happens to attend some minor tourney nearby surprises nobody, though his suggestion that he just had to visit Oldtown to see Lady Janna, nobody truly believes, especially not the young lady, even if it pleases her to hear him say it. Few thinks it a coincidence that he is here, but most suspect it has more to do with the attention this election draws from his peers than any actual interest in who gains a seat at the table. There are other types in Oldtown as well, some hooded and cloaked, doing investigations for unknown employers. Act 2: Influencing people and winning votes.
You may take up to five actions in this part. Mark each roll with the candidate supported/opposed.
Public endorsements (once only, effects cancelled if you also denounce him). -Audience Test TN 12, Grant support per DoS equal to your status rank. -Gain +2 Disposition with the supported candidate.
Denunciation (Can be done once per candidate): -Simple Intrigue (Incite) vs crowd. TN based on crowd size. TN 9: -3 support per DoS. TN 12: -6 support per DoS. TN 15: -9 support per DoS. -Suffer -4 Disposition with the denounced candidate. Other effects possible.
Feed the rumor mill (Can be done once per candidate): Optionally take -1D on the tests to allow a Deception (Disguise) TN 13 test to conceal one's identity. Knowledge (Streetwise) TN 9 Simple Intrigue (Convince for support, Incite for opposition alternatively use Bluff) TN 9 +1 support per DoS for your preferred candidate or -2 support per DoS for the candidate you oppose.
Ghostwriting (Can be done once per candidate): It can be quite effective to write speeches and distribute them across the streets for the criers to spread into : Language (Convince for support, incite for opposition) TN 9 Knowledge (Streetwise) TN 9 or spend 1GD for a 1 DoS result or 10GD for a 2 DoS result (mark language test with expenditure if "buying" DoS) +1 support per DoS for your preferred candidate or -2 support per DoS for the candidate you oppose. -The author may generally be revealed as if looking for the source of a rumor.
Influencing the most devout (Can influence each character once): You may seek an audience with Septon Tristimun, Septa Umma, Septon Perwyn, Septa Corinne and Septa Ilana (one action per character approached). Audience TN 18 Simple Intrigue (Bargain, Convince or Incite) vs ID 11, DR 4 (may vary based on qualities and previous actions). -Gain +1 support per point of influence dealt past the DR. Alternatively inflict -2 Support per influence dealt. -The effect may be split among multiple candidates (If supporting A and B and gaining 11 support, 6 goes to the one named first in the dice description, 5 to the other). -As the most devout may have their own opinions about the candidates, it is possible that they cannot be swayed for/against someone in particular.
Considerations for qualities: Blood of Valyria: Treat your status rank as 1 higher for the purpose of calculating support from endorsements. Charismatic: Treat your status rank as 1 higher for the purpose of calculating support from endorsements. Septon: The +2 applies for endorsement/denunciation. Bastard Born: Take -1D and treat your status as half for derived effects when making an endorsement. Prejudiced: Attempts to compel denouncing a candidate on your trigger list (if any), on a critical failure, you must denounce all candidates on your trigger list. Zealot: Attempts to compel seeking "maximum influence" over the vote.

Those desiring entertainment is not disappointed when Butterbumps takes the stage, beginning his act wearing an enormous paper replica of the High Septon's crystal crown, twice as tall as himself and so unwieldy that it must be suspended by ropes. Septon Baldrick's crime is the worst offense of all, oh so utterly bland and boring, a weakling toad, the dwarf starts to shed himself of the white robes of a High Septon, dancing seductively, encouraging hoots and hollers with his hands before stripping to reveal the rich red velvet associated with Septon Roswyn, wearing a wig of gray wool fashioned into a stunningly accurate caricature, why yes, Baldrick will be just like this hand puppet, Butterbumps claims, saying whatever Roswyn wants him to say. Roswyn, by the by, was sent packing to Oldtown on his own accord, the puppet show only works when the strings are hidden, and it became too obvious who was truly in charge in King's Landing. Then there is Septon Oberyn, the Dornishman, and everyone knows what Dornishmen do, yes? yes? yes! They spew fire from their eyes and have a breath like rotten eggs they do! Why, it's true! Just like a mini-Abelar, only he doesn't start riots or parade other septons naked through the streets! Frankly, Butterbumps thinks Abelar should be on the council that nearly bound him to the stake and lit the fire, because then all the whores would be paraded through the streets naked as their nameday, all the ladies, too. Oh, Butterbumps knows them all intimately, none of them came a virgin to their husband's bed. But since Abelar is a dirty fornicator, it is known, Oberyn surely must be so too? Of the others, the dwarf has plenty to say, which parts one ought not to believe and which parts one merely wishes weren't true is impossible to tell, it involves tales of little boys and girls, naughty septa's, orgies in the bell tower of The Starry Sept. It seems as if though once the dwarf has begun, each tale is more scandalous and unbelievable than the next. Butterbumps denounces everyone TN 15 (12): 5#9d6k6 24 25 25 30 32Baldrick: -27 Oberyn: -36 Lysandro: -36 Septon Roland: -36 Septon Baelor: -36 -4 Disposition with all five

Having ascertained that Septon Baldric is a shining example and quite simply the best septon of his generation, Lord Starling heartily endorses his candidacy, there is no better man to shepherd the faithful through these troubled times. Willem endorses Baldrick: 9d6k7+3 30 +20 Support to Baldrick +2 Disposition from Baldrick.
