Mikel had felt a deep connection with the moment he found himself in that he might call joy, but there was also an all consuming fear. It was thick about him, and through him, and if they had waited any longer to charge he imagined he may have shook right out of his saddle. But there came a point as they neared the shield wall where everything else just disappeared - everything and every thought - and all that existed was him, his men, and those standing against them.
Contrary to the songs horses do mind spear points staring them in the face and they know that a wall of shields held by men doesn't mean it isn't an actual wall; smart animals, right? And so in the final strides most horses slowed themselves before crashing into the iron points or the wooden wall. Most lance points missed their mark, Mikels included. It punched into the shield of the man in front of him and snapped. His sword sprung into his hands and he parried spear thrusts as his horse worked itself closer, the shield wall holding firm and pushing them back. The men left and right of him worked much the same, but their horses had no barding and their ringmail was far from impervious to the thrust of a spear.
Mikel touched his spurs to his horse and the mighty and well trained mount began its work. Punching out with its iron shod hooves and throwing its bulk into the unfortunate nearest, it bucked and reared as Mikel slashed around him. He cut through a man's face with the sharp end of his bastard sword, then brought the dull edge down hard on a man's collar, breaking the bone beneath the mail. After the length of a few long, deep breaths Mikel had caught enough glimpses further down the line of battle to know that Ser Arthur was wreaking havoc on his men.
Moving out of the enemy line, then behind the unit he attached himself with he traveled to the center of the battle at a gallop. He passed behind another unit of freeriders and could see, as he scanned to take in the scene, that the scouts were fighting in relays in an effort to pin the enemy in position and minimize their own casulties. From the bodies he passed as he closed with Arthur, it didn't seem to be going quite as well as he had hoped it would. Once they closed it was brief. Mikel worked with the momentum of his horse and swung hard at Arthurs helmet, bleeding the horses speed off quickly by turning around Arthur in a short half circle, parrying Arthurs desperate response Mikel threw another heavy blow into the man's helm and watched him crumble off his horse.
On the charge toward Arthur Mikel learned one thing, despite his plan the battle was in the enemies favor. His scouts were wearing out quick and his free riders weren't breaking the shield wall or creating casulties fast enough. Soon the relays would end and the guardsmen would be free to roll up the freeriders flanks. He was in motion before he had the conscious thought to be in motion; sending his heavy war mount into the shield wall in a frenzy and breaking it open, then cutting down anyone who came close. His advantage was in his armor, and his horses armor - and he meant to use that advantage. He worked his way along the enemy line, into the next unit and then the next, breaking through to rejoin the Freeriders he had originally charged in with.
As he turned and joined their line he could feel it. Something changed and the enemy lines just weren't holding the same.

With the miner's village burning, the surviving defenders rounded up and a smattering of girls and women huddling to the side, primarily prostitutes it appears, some of them have children, they have apparently been lead to relative safety by a septon that cannot possibly have passed upon any offer of a meal in his life, a man rightfully described as fat, but jovially so, not obese, his dark brown hair is graying and receding, he has a quiet and calm authority about him, but as his eyes meets Mikel, there is a cold righteous anger in them, not hatred like Ser Otho, but scolding disappointment. The mission is simple enough, destroy the pumps so that the mines might be flooded. And the more reasons for the mining guild, or others like it, to balk at the prospect of returning to resume operations, the better for the loyalist cause. These mines are a source of income for the Brackens and thus The Blackfyre's, but iron for their weaponry as well. After a tougher battle than expected, Mikel's men are angry at the enemy and eager for finding relief. A true and proper knight might be reminded of his vows and calling by the septon's stern gaze, a cynic might be inclined to reason that some small sacrifice of honor today to let his forces ravage as they please would save ten lives for each taken.
Consequences presently in effect -Taking Oldforge: +1 VP -Putting the village to the torch: -1 Chivalry, 2 points of war crimes, +2 Blood.
Flood the Mines Going through with the mission: 1 point of war crimes, +2 Blood.
The Horrors of War. Mikel may chose to do nothing, allowing his men to rape and butcher as they please, in which case 2 points of war crimes and +1 Blood.
Mikel may personally direct these efforts: Warfare (Command) TN 9, reduce Blackwood casualties by 10% per DoS in addition to the above effects.
Mikel may alternatively order his men to stand down: Warfare (Command) TN 12, on a success there is no rape and butcher. -Blackwood casualties are increased by 15% if giving the order, reduced by 5 percentage points per DoS scored. -Simple failure: Most of the rape and butcher is prevented, resulting in 1 point of war crime. -Critical failure: None of the rape and butcher is prevented, resulting in 2 points of war crime and +1 Blood.
Considerations for qualities: Prejudiced (Cruelty): If Mikel does not successfully stop the rape and butcher, it might be considered appropriate for some sort of self-imposed penalties or acting as if temporarily having some other drawbacks. But no such thing will be enforced.

Three was destroyed, not five, so simply applied the correct unit/state in the easy to read section* *S5 rolled seperately because I forgot to roll for it* Once the battle ended Mikel then his senior men and the squad leaders issued orders and physically enforced them to keep the men from butchery. The surviving enemy were rounded up and consolidated, then stripped of weapons and armor and sat down and bound together through some means his men had improvised and a watch kept over them. Some scouts were then dispatched to the top of the hill which over looked Oldforge to keep a watch. From there they could see well out in each direction and with their horns could warn Mikel of any attackers and the direction they were coming in from. The surviving villagers were also consolidated and kept nearby but Mikel could see the look in his men's eye. Their blood was up and though he had been firm in his intentions and what he would not allow he felt it best to keep his men busy. They formed into a small perimeter and sent out the work party that would flood the mines while Mikel made rounds among the men. Guards had been established, wounds were being tended to, and food was being prepared for the living. Once every mount and every man was fed and watered their dead were collected and rolled into cloaks and prepared so that they could quickly be loaded onto horses when the order was given to prepare to move out. Then men were sent out to collect any horses that remained in the village. When they left he did not want to risk a rider getting lucky and finding help before he was safely back in Blackwood lands. Some men were sent to find bags and load them with mined silver so that it could be distributed among the men later, and taken to the families of fallen. One party prepared the enemies armor to be loaded into horses and taken back for Blackwood use. Fifty armored peasants in a levy might have an impact. He allowed a few enemy, under guard, to treat their wounded and retrieve the body of Ser Arthur. Once the mine was flooded Mikel sounded rally so that the scouts atop the hill returned to them. The dead were loaded onto horses, the enemies weapons tossed into the flooded mine. Finally the scouts arrived and had nothing to report. As the men formed up Mikel rode towards the surviving villagers to find the family that Lord Arthur had left behind. He addressed the widow directly, in a voice that was gentle due to all she had lost but firm in its resolve. "Once we clear the village those men will remove the bindings of your surviving guardsmen." He had pointed to the three men of the enemy who he had allowed to treat the wounded. "We've taken all your mounts to discourage pursuit or a dash for aid. Your wounded had been tended, as you doubtless observed." He looked back toward his men. They were all mounted, and some held the reins of mounts whose riders were draped across the saddle and lifeless, or mounts taken from the village and laden with armor or mined silver. "Your husband was true to his duty, and showed himself to be a formidable Knight. Your men also fought well, in truth it was too close a thing for my liking." He swallowed, suddenly uncomfortable. "My condolences." Then rode to the front of his men and sent the scouts out. This fight was different for him then others in his life in more ways then one. This was his first battle against trained men who were more or less the same as him. They simply served another Lord and fought for him instead. In this case these men had fought for their village. Often Mikel championed the idea that war should be between two armed forces, and it should be, but that was very idealistic. In truth if you want to win a war you should destroy your enemies will to fight, his ability to fight, and then him. The Lord protected his people and they provided for him so if you burned their crops the Lord wouldn't be proved with food and starvation was surely enough to break any man. If you happened to kill the workers after you burned their fields you just took from the Lords pool of men he would raise the levies from. Now a hungry and undermanned garrison is all that stands between you and whatever you decided to go to war over in the first place. Despite acknowledging all that he was proud to have exercised such restraint. Once the scouts were far enough ahead he ended his somber musings with a final thought, that he felt, at least so far, detached from the killing. He had no remorse nor pride in it, though he did feel validation in his life's focus and a drive to continue in his craft. He let his horse go and heard his men coming behind. A squad of scouts would follow behind, one on either side, and one ahead. They lead squad would guide them back along a different route then the one they had come in on. No sense risking somebody having seen their trail now waiting on it in ambush for their return.
