The look on Daeron’s face is one of acknowledgement. He knew that it would be a difficult task from the beginning.
“I cannot argue against your observations, but if Lady Maegelle and Ser Normyn become further embroiled in scandal, Lord Gormon and others might find it more advantageous, or at least convenient, to shift their support to a man of unimpeachable integrity. More so if they can arrange a seat for him at their table.
My goal is lofty, but not impossible, and I’m not the only one who appreciates the risk of Lord Quentyn and Lady Denyse being declared bastards. Wisdom would have us prepare for that contingency.”

"Perhaps, but proving them bastards is like to be fare more difficult than it was to send Lady Joanna Meadows to a septry, I would expect them fight hard to ensure that Lord Quetyn remains Lord Cordwayner, that is what I would have done if I wanted what they want." Marq comments dispassionately. "It is very difficult to ride two horses at once, figuratively speaking of course, Redtusk is the only one I know crazy enough to try that for real. But I am afraid that Ser Roland will find no promises or support here."

“You are likely correct my lord, but in inviting Ser Roland here, I have done my part.
It is likely that at the conclusion of that affair I will have burned at least one bridge, but I will burn that bridge when I get there.
I am interested in your take on the matter though. What would you do in my boots?”

"What I would do? Nothing, I think." Marq offers after a little pondering. "If I cannot achieve something without employing methods that would turn any victory hollow, I do not make the attempt"
"I do have a rather vivid imagination, ser, I may have an idea or two as to what the most wicked blackguard might do, but we are knights who remember the words spoken as we were dubbed by the sword, no?"

“Your wisdom is sage in this matter my lord, though I would never demean myself or my vows. My brothers must decide this affair with minimal involvement from me.
I have enough matters to attend to at this hunt as it is, between pursuing a bride, dealing with Ser Walgrave Waters, and strengthening the ties between Kingsbridge and it’s neighbors.”

"Then do not let some humble lord keep you any further than necessary, ser"

He guffaws at what was certainly a jest. Daeron had met many lords who described themselves as humble, but none who believed it.
"Thank you my lord for lending an ear and sound advice. Moreover, I appreciate you bringing to light Lady Joanna's victimization. No noble lady should suffer such indignities and no man should go unpunished for inflicting them."
/scene with Lord Marq
Some time later after Daeron's meeting with Lord Marq and witnessing the aftermath of Lord Willem's boar hunt
"Ser Walgrave Waters, have you no shame? Come face me you cowardly bastard and we shall see if you are as bold with your sword as you are with words!"
Wasting no time, he strides to a corner of Whitegrove's great hall where many of the lesser knights and guests were drinking, Daeron tosses at gauntlet at the Longtable knight's feet.
"You'll find that facing a real knight is far more difficult than terrorizing our host's niece."

Ser Walgrave looks at Daeron and just shrugs, muttering something about why he should bother getting armed and armored just to watch him walk away with his tails between his legs, eliciting chuckling with his companions, all Longtable men.

"You insult my courage and yet you're the one refusing to fight. Perhaps you'd like for one of these foreign mercenaries to stand as your champion for you instead?"

"How can I insult your courage when there is none, ser?" Walgrave replies with a mocking smile accompanied by laughter from his peers.

If you want, or you could punch him in the face.

Face punching, the right choice is always face punching.
I will not stand here and have my honor impugned by a bastard who has none himself!
Whether or not it was the reaction that Ser Walgrave wanted, Daeron silently slipped his other gauntlet onto his hand before abruptly lunging at him. If the bastard wouldn’t face him, he would have to force the issue.

The punch leads to an uproar, had Daeron been alone, he would surely be in for a severe beating by overwhelming numbers. But as it happens, the place is full of men who has long been itching to teach Eldon's dogs a lesson, now pouncing to the chance against the protests of more sensible men, a battle of fists ensues around Daeron and Walgrave.
