I know it's a bit tardy, but I wanted to give a salute to the Salon with Lady Peake sub event and Vying for Favour Event for giving fleshed our roles and opportunities for female characters [of which we only have 2 active].

Note to self: No more rewards linked to a specific number of people left in a competition, should be per scene/round/achievement basis.

While broadly sympathetic to the Reckless attack issue, I'll confess to being a bit irked by the alacrity with which an NPC's defeat against Ser Daeron was addressed (way to go Sir Daeron). I think it bring together a couple of things for me:
1) Having been on the receiving end of a similarly unbalanced home-brewed benefit without similarly prompt acknowledgement that "this is unbalanced and problematic" this makes it feel like there's more regard for NPCs than the PCs. I like it when the narrator is a fan of the PCs, and it doesn't always feel the case here. I appreciate tastes vary here. 2) Feeling things are a bit on rails - seeing my efforts and others on the Cordwayner plot in general come to very little, and that better all-rounder NPCs than Roland expended material resources and time on bringing Simon Tarly to justice and got nowhere. It puts me off engaging with various plots threads.
Less related but of some concern, and linked to to 2) in that putting in a lot of effort on 3) only to get nowhere narratively is offputting.
3) Various events are getting increasingly complicated, making them off putting to participate in. It can be off putting thinking I'm going to have to analyse and breakdown a threads mechanics and make a ton of rolls, then trying to do a good IC post. Often fun can spring from simple mechanics as the variability of rolls and the narrative responses provide depth without complexity.
Apologies for the tone here, trying to be frank given previous differences in style. I know how much hard work and love goes in to games like this having run them!

I think before we launch into the next Chronicle we might consider revisiting Benefits and Drawbacks. As the game has evolved I think some are in need of a rework. Leaders of Men e.g.

Maybe. For the warfare-benefits, they are unlikely to matter for chronicle 2 unless I go out of my way to design some event or something where it comes into play, and warfare itself is a mess right now.
Although might toss in some war games to try out potentially better ways to resolve future battles, probably should. Idea right now (as in literally right now) might be tactics/strategy to figure out the most likely right choice, a chance test (with bonus from that test) to determine if it actually was the right choice, then tactics/command for execution (i.e. how well a right choice is capitalized on, or how much damage control can be done).

So while I am putting in finishing touches on some stuff to go into the press (day 0 and day 1 I think is mostly done), and other things are more WIP....any NPC's that stand out as more interesting to read something about, just in case they happen to fit the general description of an NPC needed for one thing or the other, or I get a name thrown at me and get...ideas for what I might throw into the mix.

You might have planned to feature some of these NPCs considering the Hightower Regency is up next but here are some that jump out to me. - Lord Narbert Costayne: A few reasons I chose him. In the lore he leads the left flank in the battle of Redgrass Field. The quote from the Mystery Knight reads, Lord Costayne was on the left of Daemon's host, while Lord Shawney was on the right side with Bittersteel. How accomplished is Lord Narbert that he led 1/3 of the army in battle? He is the brother(?) to Lady Melara Hightower. There is also this from Cast of 1000s regarding Melara, "though not without rumor that the Costaynes had a hand in the death of Lord Jon's first wife so that she might marry him." Is Narbert so ambitious he might see to his lord's wife's death or is it simply rumor? - Lady Jeyne Cuy: Cucking her husband aside, she is a clever manipulator, formerly of House Hightower, anti-Dornish, pro-Blackfyre, and would seem to fit in with the shenanigans to come. Who knows what she would be willing to do to see the banner houses of the Hightowers see the "right person" gains the regency. - Lord Farman Flowers: Another person with great charisma eclipsed only by his inability to keep his appetites in check. What does he have in store after the Windswept Castle orgy? He was known to associate with Lord Eldon. Has that continued or does even Farman know when to say no? - Ser Garth Redwyne: How does he handle his loyalty to his family vs. his oath as a Kingsguard? Would be interesting to see someone truly conflicted on what to do with the war seemingly inevitable. - Prince Maeker: He's everything his brother Baelor isn't. The wiki describes him as prickly and impatient. He was a harsh man, quick to judge and to condemn. Unlike his brother Baelor, he was not charismatic and could not make friends and allies easily. - Every heir to the Houses of the Reach. Some might carbon copies of their fathers (e.g. Laenor Peake sans the martial talent) but others might have their own agenda. - Ser Sebaston Rowan: If memory serves he lost a point in Status after Aemon Flowers humiliated him when fighting over the hand of Lysette Starling. - Ser Eustace Osgrey: Simply an homage to Dunk and Egg.

Costayne's are likely on the stronger side for not being directly sworn to Highgarden, supplying their liege lord's wife doesn't have to imply much, she was obviously fertile. But marriage to a Butterwell when he has the standard secondary lord NPC template? Maybe his father was far more formidable. It may be so simple an explanation that after Fireball's death, he was the ranking Reacher Lord in the host, although in our continuity, this would imply that Gormon gets sufficiently disgraced in the eyes of Daemon that he is overlooked, and similarily so with Walgrave (although Oakheart supporting both sides would in our continuity imply that Walgrave is unlikely to survive very far into the rebellion).
Just because Lord Costayne is tasked with leading a host doesn't necessarily mean he's particularly competent. Consider how in the books, Renly tasked Loras the teenager with leading the van over the far more traditional and safe choice in Randyll Tarly. The most logical explanation for how he might come to lead a flank is that the first choice (Fireball) gets shot by a random archer on the eve of battle, and he happens to be the Reacher lord in Daemon's host with the most men following his banner, possibly if only considering Reacher lords not despised by other lords and knights in the host, or that the Hightower bannermen outnumbered Peake et al and wanted one of their own.
At least that's how the present world state of the game most easily can be railroaded towards Narbert Costayne leading a flank with a reasonable assumption added about Costayne wealth and power.

Small update to Costayne entry, since I read a little up on them (they have certainly not been loyal bannermen for generations upon generations) and adjusting a little based on above musings (but he remains unremarkable as far as personal ability goes).
Also, some random minor NPC's will probably be killed off by actual natural causes and maybe get eulogies in the rumors.

Technically, yes (I did change it after the fact since I think it shouldn't apply in a free for all scenario, although Roland's choice will make the other two gang up on him which kinda will make it fine). What's up here? This isn't an MMROPG style taunt effect, it's a free action involving Will (Courage). I don't see how an NPC would be aware of this in character, nor do I think turning PCs benefits and use of the mechanics against them as cool or fun. It feels like being punished for engaging with a home brewed mechanic (both the virtue and the combat action utilising it). This would happen with Shield Expert? It might happen with the similar defensive bonus for Blood of the Rhoynar admittedly. But that's more of a sad commentary on Westeros.

Roland's choice of going after Daeron will make Aubrey go after Roland because Aubrey wants to win. Which kind of makes it 2 vs Roland anyway.
