Ser Farman Flowers invites all lords, knights and ladies who held his granduncle in high regards, or simply wish to honor him by the grandest party ever held upon Bridges lands. In truth, Windswept castle is not actually on Bridges lands, the skeletal ruins of one of the redoubts of The Warrior's Son's, it's stones blackened and twisted by the flames of Balerion the Black Dread during the uprising. Much have fallen down as wooden beams were turned to ash. The rubble has long since been cleaned of loose stones for the construction of mills and farmhouses, leaving only the ruined walls of the Great Hall were it is said that seven hundred and seventy seven knights slept under the roof which lay where there is now an open sky. The summer night is clear and pleasant, with the winds that have given the castle it's name a pleasant breeze. Though neither fire nor time have ruined it's cavernous and labyrinthine cellars, or the hidden pathways from where most of the order managed to flee as their castle had been surrounded and burnt.
Cellars where it is easy to disappear, adding the sort of allure to draw in Lord Eldon Merryweather, Ser Farman's sponsor and co-host, opening up his coffers to afford extravagance such as a fountain of wine, and many, many hostesses, rumors has it that they have arrived by the cartload from the whorehouses of Highgarden, Oldtown and King's Landing, only the young and pretty. Lord Eldon wants no masquerade ball, he desires an orgy, and as most ladies are loath to oblige this wish, and as most lords and knights would forbid their wives and daughters to come, and many a lady would not even consider attending, there would be a scarcity of female participants if not for the wenches paid good coin to attend the festivities.
Restrictions: You cannot partake in both this event and in The Star Tribunal Event.
Only What not to wear is obligatory (except as noted differently under notes related to drawbacks).
What not to wear.
Deception (Disguise) TN 13, see below for special provisions. You make the roll at the start of the event to signal your choice of penalty dice, but the result on this roll does not matter, instead, the narrator will call for an identical dice roll at the resolution of the event that will determine your actual result.
Simple Failure: You will be added to the list of characters whose identities can be randomly discovered.
Critical Failure: Your identity will automatically be discovered by those succeeding on the unmasking tests.
Maximum bonus for taking extra time applies.
You may treat any disguise ranks as deception ranks.
Given the anonymity of the event, chivalry/virtue rules are suspended, as are any effects relying on name recognition.
As long as you stay anonymous, NPC dispositions are at a default of 0 modified as noted below, you gain a bonus equal to the default disposition on all persuasion tests, and deception tests involving act/bluff.
You may voluntarily take as many penalty dice as you wish to your disguise roll up to your deception rank, gaining +1 default disposition per -1D taken. A reasonably good-looking female that goes naked (save for the mask) gains double the bonus from disposition from any male characters (unless otherwise noted, persuasion tests are assumed to be targeted at men).
If you do take one or more penalty dice, each characteristic physical feature (such as attractive/marked/obese/unattractive/Blood of X) add +1 TN to the disguise test.
If you take no penalty dice, drawbacks such as marked and unattractive are ignored.
-1D is typically a revealing or tight-fitting garb that otherwise is socially acceptable, while taking the maximum penalty is at most a loincloth and scanty coverings of the breasts (for women), going naked involves taking the full penalty. If unmasked, you suffer -0/1 chivalry/virtue if having taken more than -1D in penalty, -1/-2 if taking the maximum penalty and -2/-3 if going naked. Taking the maximum penalty and then get hit with another -1D to disguise effectively counts as naked for the purposes of chivalry/virtue hits.
Attractive: You gain no bonuses from this benefit if you do not take any penalty dice to disguise.
Unattractive, Obese and similar: Taking penalty dice on your disguise inflicts penalties rather than bonuses.
Lascivious: Triggers, on a failure you must take the maximum penalty dice allowed.
Let the Wine Flow
You may take as many servings of the wine as you wish, gaining +1D to persuasion and -1 to all tests (which means that persuasion is effectively +1D-1, note that this also applies to the final disguise test) for each number of servings equaling your endurance rank. Alcohol Poisoning for wine otherwise functions as per the book, except that the penalty dice taken only determines whether your pass out at the end of the event (or die in the extreme case). If you pass out, you suffer -1D on all test for being drunk, which also affects chivalry/virtue penalties if unmasked.
Unmasking:
You may attempt to find out the identity of a specific masked individual you encounter, to determine which of these masks hides a specific person or to simply try and see if you can recognize anyone without looking for someone particular.
Make the following tests:
Awareness (Notice) TN 12 or special
Cunning (Memory) TN 12 or special
For each two DoS scored against TN 12, you learn the identity of someone taken from the random list (which includes all characters who suffered a simple failure, as well as various secondary and tertiary characters).
Succeeding on both tests reveals the identities of all who critically failed their disguise tests.
On a critical failure, you become wrongly convinced of the identity hiding behind a mask.
If instead you wish to find out which mask hides a specific person (or which person is hidden by a specific mask), the TN is equal to their passive deception(disguise), minus any increase of their disguise TN due to physical characteristics. -4 TN if they are famous. If you have the connections benefit, you may additionally test Knowledge (Streetwise). If your total DoS*5 equals or exceeds their disguise result, you uncover their identity. For every two DoS in excess of what was necessary to learn their identity, you learn one identity from the random list (if the knowledge test on it's own results in more DoS than required, the excess of this is lost). If the person sought fails their disguise test, the TN is at most 12, if they critically fail, success on both tests (alternatively success on the knowledge test) reveals them and the tests are otherwise treated as if trying to discover random identities.
The Temptations of the Flesh
To engage in carnal pleasures, succeeding on a TN 9 simple intrigue using seduction suffices to have a sinful encounter with a random partner, for male participants, this is probably one of Eldon's girls, female participants should have little trouble finding a willing male guest. Going after someone specific (either one identified, or someone pretty) typically involves a higher TN.
On a success you may do a free unmasking test targeting your partner (knowledge test does not apply, but also exposes you to them being granted the opportunity to unmask you). You will also take an additional -1D to your disguise test (but not beyond the maximum penalty allowed).
Lascivious triggers to make you attempt the generic TN 9 test should you fail in other pursuits.
Dance
- Move with grace and style: Agility(balance) TN 12
- Know the steps: Status(breeding) TN 12
- Add a dash of passion: Persuasion(Charm, Intimidate, Seduce or Taunt) or Deception (act, choose one of the techniques for persuasion for effects) TN 12
Graceful applies the +1D to all tests. Courteous does not apply.
For each 3 DoS scored, you may do an unmasking test for an interesting dancing partner, selected at random from those entering the dance. They may also do so in return.
Each critical failure inflicts -1D on the disguise test.
Wedding and Bedding
The fool of Longtable, possibly as rotund as his lord, but surprisingly agile is posing in the robes of a septon with a massive phallus protruding out is to hold a wedding, and of course, a bedding. Finding a groom and bride among those present, although it is not quite so good sport as people think.
Cunning (Logic) TN 9 to realize that this isn't just an opportunity to gain prestige, but that participation in the "bedding" will be expected. Success grants +1D to tests to resist the allure of things such as vainglorious and zealot.
Make a succession of Persuasion (Seduction) tests to gain his attention, starting at TN 9 and adding +3 TN each time until you suffer a critical failure. The man and woman with the highest number of DoS are selected. In case of a tie, the attractive benefit, then the highest TN succeeded against, then ranks in seduction, then re-rolls determines the selection.
The pair chosen will be wedded and then strongly encouraged to be bedded. Refusing the bedding imposes -2 default disposition. Going through with the bedding grants esteem that may be converted into a fire/blood point in the politicking going on at this party, but also carries all penalties and risks of going naked.
Lascivious triggers to compel full participation, as does vainglorious and zealot(power).
Business mixed with Pleasure
As always, when nobles are gathered, there are opportunities to play politics.
Awareness (Empathy) TN 9
Cunning (Logic) TN 9
Persuasion (Convince) TN 9
Mark which side (fire/blood) you favor in the dice rolls.
Highest total DoS for your faction and score at least 5 DoS (rerolls for tie-break, PC's always tie before NPC's): +1 Fire/Blood
Faction with highest total DoS overall: +2 Fire/Blood.
Rumor-Mongers
You may spread rumors for the grapevine as per regular rules, observing the various modifiers from other parts of this event.
You may also try and pick up on what's being discussed, you may attempt as many of the following as you please:
Awareness (Notice) TN 9
Cunning (Logic) TN 9
Knowledge (Streetwise) TN 9
Stealth (Blend in) TN 9
Each 2 DoS grants a random rumor, attempting to learn about specific things increases the TN's to 12, and may require additional DoS. Excess DoS will grant random rumors. If the topic of interest is not being discussed by anyone that seems to know anything, all DoS will go towards learning random rumors.
It is possible that the result is a "blank", meaning that while the character learns something interesting, the narrator may not have written up enough secrets and pieces of hearsay to give an actual result, in this case, players are encouraged to suggest something that might serve as a story hook.
In the case of a critical failure, players are encouraged to suggest that their character becomes convinced of something which can be used as a story hook (and probably is absolutely not true and likely to get them into trouble).
Cloak and Dagger
The cover of the festivities can be used to arrange for any number of incidents, some harmless, others less so. The narrator may s open for suggestions.
Benefit/Drawbacks:
Prejudiced (Dornish): Triggers to compel confrontation of a "sinful Rhoynar", add -1D to your disguise test (increased recognition).
Decadent: Triggers to compel enough servings of wine to make passing out theoretically possible.
Charismatic: Grants +1 to persuasion tests.
Lascivious triggers to compel participation/choices in various parts.
Vainglorious triggers to compel participation in wedding and bedding.
