"There are many things which can plague a mind. Thoughts of what you should do, or should have done, or how it could have been different are only helpful to a point and beyond that point they become burdensome and restrictive. We all have them and deal with them in our own way. I have a strong tendency to hold too strongly onto my failings and mistakes. Over the years I have worked hard to reflect on something of that nature only so much as to learn from it then pay it need no heed once my lesson has been learned. If I am not careful I easily fall back into the former habit."
"You have given me an insight I previously had not had. I suppose I would like hope - it is a powerful force - but when used improperly it becomes a crutch and the man who relies on it may never again fully rely on himself. Reality is what we must understand and embrace, and while I hope that reality will go as I wish it to it would do me better to see that it has before and perhaps even to see how it had been done before."
"Master Malyk I cannot remember the last time I have had a conversation like this. Would it be too bold of me to suggest we repeat it? If you are willing to feel free to select where and when we have it - and if I am free of obligation at that time I will be certain to join you. Perhaps with another I have met who seems think deep thoughts, if that is agreeable to you?"

"I believe hope is the most important gift the Seven gave us. Without it much of all of this would be pointless." He sighed. "But you are right. Too many simply hope for things to be better, doing nothing to change their circumstances." He shook his head and smiled brightly. It was strange he could switch moods so swiftly, but there was no artifice about it. "Jorah will be good, or he will not. Probably more grey than black and white, like the rest of us. At least he still has the opportunity to choose."
He rose. "The hour grows late and my Lord will be retiring soon." He nods to the scholar and hands him some silver. "Thank you for your kind indulgence. you have been very helpful." He turns to Ser Mikel. "I would be happy to speak with you again. It has been an enjoyable conversation, even if the subject matter was not. I have business in the morning, and will be attending Lord Levalle at the equestrian competition, but the rest of my day is largely free. My staff is very well trained and need only come to me when there are issues. Perhaps sometime in the evening if you and your friend are free. Early in the tourney I usually spent my evenings wandering the gardens and the woods, or catching frogs by the stream, but I have had little solace from such things the last few days."
He bowed to the Knight and smiled again, warmly. "The Seven smile on you in your endeavors tomorrow, Ser Mikel."

When Malyk rose Mikel did likewise. "A true pleasure, and a rare one. An evening conversation in the gardens sounds perfect. I look forward to seeing you there Master Malyk." Mikel left with a satisfied feeling. The joy of a good conversation was not lost on him and he was looking forward to having another tomorrow.
