Against Lord Mallador Chester, Ser Imry Levalle is the clear and undisputed favorite going in, and he does not fail to disappoint. Only one pass is needed for his opponent to be brought off his saddle. The response from the crowd is muted, the Levalle's are not particularly popular around Highgarden, and talk about how he dishonored his wife so by his deeds and words have not endeared the crowds to him. For those bothering to keep an eye out, they notice that the seat reserved for her at Lady Florent's side is vacant. Lord Deremond puts on a brave face as he salutes the crowds, and while he does hold his lance well, breaking it in the process, he fails to offer anything remotely looking like a challenge to Ser Roland Redwyne, finding himself unhorsed in the first pass as expected. Lord Ryman Frey was not given much of a chance to begin with, though at least he could have hoped to break his lance, which he does not. Only a blind and deaf man could fail to discern the favor of the crowd as Lords Merryweather and Durwell enters the field. From the opposite side of the fields from where the nobles are seated, where the smallfolk are gathered, a large number of them urges Lord Marq to "skewer the pig.". On the side of the nobles, Lord Durwell is greeted with loud cheers, and Lord Merryweather mostly with silence, though the occasional insult can be heard. Lord Marq disappoints a great many by holding back, twisting in his saddle to make Lord Eldon's lance miss him each time, while never failing to break any of his own lances, but it's clear to those observing that he probably could have brought his opponent to the ground if he so had wanted. Nor is it the first time he has done this. Lord Eldon ignores the jeers and rides over to complement Lord Marq on his horsemanship before beating a hasty retreat to the baths, sweating profusely from his great mass being encased in steel in this heat. Lord Willem is expected to make quick work with Ser Aladore Florent, one of the most experienced and skilled jousters against a young man that up until now has only partaken in squire's jousts without being noticed. Ser Simon Tarly, unexpectedly wearing the favor of Lady Alena Flowers, the crowds all have agreed that he does so expecting to get under her skirts which this day are much more suitable for a lady, her bodice is much less revealing, but still among the more daring among her fellows ladies. Lord Mattis puts up a good display, but is caught by surprise as Ser Simon lays his lance across the jousting line like a beam, sweeping his opponent off without any chance of staying in his saddle. Not the easiest trick to pull, but when caught unawares, few jousters can withstand it. Lord Karl Willum sends Lord Garret Oldflowers flailing in much the same fashion as Ser Simon Tarly performed earlier to the great satisfaction of the crowd, the young lord revels in the cheers. Lord Owen Roxton and Ser Manfryd Mooton offers a tantalizing match between them, the Riverlands knight shrugging off one strong blow after the other, and scores solidly in return, some even call for more rounds, but Lord Owen is awarded the victory for his superior skill. Lord Willem Redwyne brings down Lord Armond Caswell in the first tilt, though he rides well, he is just clearly outmatched by. Ser Gwayne Corbray needs two passes to unhorse Ser Martyn Appleton, the young knight is inexperienced and not yet the equal of his more formidable brothers, yet he breaks his lance twice against the man of the kingsguard, but experienced observers notes that while Ser Gwayne is clearly the better jouster, Ser Martyn brought him close to falling off and call for Lady Forlorn, even without the Valyrian Blade, Ser Gwayne is considered among the finest swordsmen in the Reach, and would surely have an even greater advantage on foot. Lord Alyn Hunt manages to break his lance against Ser Willem Wylde, but only just. The Man of the Kingsuard, however, have little difficulty unhorsing him. Ser Arlan Green sends Lord Robert Hayford to the ground in the first tilt, as is the fate of Lord Alekyne Yelshire at the lance of Ser Manfred Grimm and Ser Matthew Mullendore facing Ser Normyn Flowers.
