Second sons all it seemed. Although, Titus thought, he was the second son of a second son, which put him something like fourth or fifth in line to inherit. Nuncle Jon, cousin Joffrey, Father and Balon would all have to pass for him to be Lord Blackbriar. And that would be terrible. The saddle and lance was enough for him.
“The common jest is that any Blackbriar man who’s not a knight nor a Septon is struck from the family records” he said jokingly. It was a half-joke really.

"No ill-thing to expunge the memories of such, although perhaps better to retain their shame as a warning. It is a poor thing indeed if a man has the rank and training to be made a knight yet fails to earn his spurs. Such men should indeed be sent to the Faith or the Citadel rather than succumbing to courtly pleasures and indolence. A knight's path is not for everyone, but a pox on those who fail to follow their training through despite the opportunity. Not every man has the frame and poise to reach Prince Daemon's height, but it is the cowardice to fail to attempt it that irks me. Better a mediocre knight that tried than a nobleman who lacks the courage to try."

This one truely believed in the chivalry spirit of knighthood with no sense for ambiguity or shades of grey. Might come in handy at some point...
"Well said Ser Roland, if all men believed in knightly values as you do, the Reach would be a better place for it."
There was no use in disagreeing with a fanatic and Ser Roland seemed like one if maybe a bit on the simpler side.
Turning to Titus, he smiled at his joke: "Now a jousting septon would certainly be the peak of your line, that Septon Abelar certainly seems to have the vigor for it. Maybe he should train with your Lord father"

If Septon Abelar took to wielding a sword he'd conquer the Seven Kingdoms through fervour alone, no dragons required! The thought was an amusing one, if fairly frightening.
"Ser Aladale" he continued "at the vigil, you spake well. Did you know Lord Jon in person?"

Roland smile at Aladale's jape, which also conjured up romantic images of the Warrior's Sons facing off against the despotic King Maegor. A wiser man might see how recreating such a body would destabilise the balance of power in the Realm, but for Roland it only led to thoughts of honour and brotherhood.

"Only in passing, Ser Titus. I have talked to him on occasion on Tourneys and similar events but I can't say I knew the man very well. Nevertheless, I thought it was important to acknowledge a man from the Reach of his status. Especially one thst go murdered in such cowardly matter"

"Indeed. A High Lord murdered, poisoned no less, is a tragedy! And a bad omen..." His sighs and looks up to the passing clouds. "One can only pray that justice comes swiftly. For the sake of the mourning but also for the realm. It's a bloody business."
He paused. "Or maybe one should do more than pray." It was said in thought, not necessarily a offer nor a question.
