Following the massacre outside Bitterbridge, the lordship of Bandallon has passed to the young second son, too young to reign, and so it falls to Lord Hightower to appoint a regent, but Lord Hightower is an even younger boy, with no regent to make the decision for him, instead, there are four contenders that largely cannot agree on an appointment or decision unless the choice is obvious. And this choice is not obvious. Lady Falyse does have her backers in Oldtown, but she is a lady and with a most unfavorable skin complexion as well, barely a woman grown, too. Her uncle, Ser Guyard, has his backers as well. None that likes him as a person, but there is no small amount of respect for his long service at Lord Hightower's court, had he not used his position and favor with his liege to grasp for honors and positions for himself and his sons, it is likely that Lady Falyse would not have the support among the courtiers and bannermen at Lord Hightower's court to mount a challenge for the position.
Narrator Note: The actual influencing of the outcome will be in a later part, and participation here is not required to partake in the other ones) act 1 only grants you information about the voters if one so wishes. It will be possible to engage with other characters to influence their choices outside of the event. All NPC nominations for the entire event chain must be made in this act.
Restrictions: Only characters presently in the Reach may partake.
NPC participation: Each player may nominate an NPC to be featured, all special NPC's among the voters will automatically be featured.
Weighty votes:
Hightowers have the final say, but they are divided, opening the field to their advisers, each of the following has enough influence over which way things swings to have a "vote" in the matter:
-Melara Hightower
-Rhonda Hightower
-Abelar Hightower
-Raymun Hightower
-Janna Hightower
-Septon Roswyn
-Balman Bulwer
-Narbert Costayne
-Jeyne Cuy
-Eustace Daverhyl
-Lothor Mullendore
-Ellyn Beesbury
Additionally, Falyse and Guyard will be treated as voters, representing their efforts to win support.
Voters will make the relevant tests for offering support to their preferred candidates in a later act, but otherwise take no actions (blank votes possible), these votes will be ignored for all other purposes than determining the winning candidate. If featured, they will participate in full in addition to this (thus allowing them twice the impact).
Challenge: Which way do the voters lean?
Knowledge (Streetwise) TN 12, you may test three times.
-By spending coin, you may gain additional dice, as if taking extra time, the first +1D costs 1GD, double the cost for each additional +1D (So it's 1+2+4+8+16.....).
-If spending coin, test chance TN 7, with +1 TN per extra die beyond the first, on a failure, your interest will enter the random rumor list, on a critical failure, it will enter the public rumor list.
-Each DoS grants you information about the leanings of a single voter.
-For each +3 TN you accept before rolling, you may increase the amount of information gained by a cumulative +50% (round down).
Twist: Digging for secrets.
You may instead use one or more of your streetwise tests to attempt to find blackmail on a voter, this functions exactly as the above and uses up an attempt, except as noted, it is possible that you instead will learn what sort of actions and/or bribes on your part would make the target owe you favors (which may be used to swing them as desired), some might be incorruptible and have no secrets of interest.
-A modifier is added to the TN based on the target's ranks: ((Cunning+Deception)/2)+(Highest of Act/2, Disguise and Streetwise)), rounded down.
-Make a second chance test per target with a TN equal to target's passive knowledge (Streetwise), gain +1D if successful on the standard chance test. On a failure, the target is made aware that someone is out there looking for dirt, on a critical failure, they discover your identity.
-Any secrets discovered are usually worth a minor favor per DoS scored from the NPC in question (which can be used to influence their votes, or kept for later), trying to extract more will make them feel like it's better to risk exposure than face endless demands.
Turn: Sometimes it might be best not to be known to have an interest in certain matters.
You may accept -1D on one or more streetwise tests.
-If you do, you may also attempt a Deception (Disguise) TN 9 test.
-Each DoS grants you +3 to any chance tests for the purpose of keeping your interest hidden, but only for the purpose of revealing your identity, a result without the modifier that would reveal that *someone* is searching is unaffected, but a result that would reveal your name can be altered to only reveal that *someone* were searching. And the TN for discovering your identity (as per investigating the source of a rumor) is increased by 3+3 per DoS.
Special:
Members of House Hightower or one of their bannerhouses (That includes "self-exiled" Daverhyls and Hightower bastards), gains +1D on Streetwise tests.
Wider consequences:
-A victory to Guyard would generally favor Abelar/Reynard in their bid for the Hightower regency, it would also favor Eustace over Lynesse should there be a regency contest at Mustard Hall.
-A victory to Falyse would generally favor Melara/Rhonda for the Hightower regency, and Lynesse over Eustace in any future regency contest at Mustard Hall.
-Falyse is generally believed to be a loyalist of King Daeron II, Guyard has shown no signs of any particular leanings.
-Whoever is appointed will have a say in who will be appointed regent for Lord Hightower.
Considerationn for Qualities
Connections: The daily use may be applied to one of the following:
-Monitor the activities of one NPC.
-Employ middlemen to allow you to ignore the -1D penalty for using disguise.
Wealthy: You may ignore the first 25GD of expenses for this event.
Vindictive: If applicable, it attempts to compel searching for blackmail again a voter on your target list, on a critical failure, you must search for blackmail against all voters on your target list.
Zealot: Attempts to compel searching for blackmail, on a critical failure, you must use all your tests to search for blackmail.
