"As you no doubt have heard, there have been rumblings of growing interest in bringing back the Faith Militant." Aerion begins a little tentatively, recalling Laena's warnings about putting too much trust in the man in front of him. Still, Lord Marq is probably one of the best connected men in the entire seven Kingdoms, and would be the quickest way to identify potential men who would join in his cause.
"Their reasons are simple: 'Too many men are breaking their vows to the Seven. They are untouchable due to their station. There is no recourse to punish them for their actions if they are sufficiently protected politically.' And it is true, at least to some degree."
"There are many who do not wish for the return of the Faith Militant. They fear it will wreak havoc across the land and ravage everything with impunity. A valid fear."
"It shouldn't be, but it is: Men who lack strength of will and a sense of morality will seek to abuse any advantage they might have to increase their own station. Or their wealth. Or their. Or worse, just because they enjoy it." he adds, repeating the definition given by Marq earlier.
"It isn't enough for men to speak the words. We must live them, else they meant nothing. And those of us who not only have spoken them, but live them daily, allow them to get away with it. Through inaction, we give them freedom to rape and murder under the protective banner of noble titles. We are just as guilty."
"Perhaps the answer is not the Faith Militant as it once was. Perhaps it is. I can not say with certainty. But I can say that more should be done, and to that end I'm interested in gather more like-minded individuals who no longer will allow the guilty to walk free."
Aerion isn't sure what the man will do with the information, but everything he said is sincere, and he will stand by what he said if pressured.
