Fireball might have expected sellswords to be unreliable and cowardly, he likely would nod and state that he had told Balon so, once upon a time he might have grinned while saying it, but he had not smiled ever since Ser Willem Wylde was appointed to the spot on the kingsguard he had been promised. One charge by a handful of knights and their squires is all it takes for Balon's men to fold, though the opposition is not without it's teeth, Balon's sees Erryk getting a lance punched through his chest, likely dead before hitting the ground. If they were proper disciplined men, they might have held the line and responded to Balon's commands of holding together, instead they flee, utterly oblivious to the fact that there really are just two foes left standing, but in the chaos and turmoil, they care only about their own skin, not realizing that the last-ditch effort of their enemies was a desperate attempt to sacrifice their lives to clear a path for the women and children, a heroic charge worthy of a song not like to ever be composed. Granted, even ordinary knights such as these ones are worth at least thrice their number of what Balon had brought along. Good thing, then, that Balon also brought himself.
Ser Hoster's last charge... Leading from the front: Inspire, Command w/assists: 2#5d6+2 21 16+1D+2 to attack. Wedge charge on M&A: 6d6k4+2 233*10-7=23 that's a destroyed unit. Also resolved vs Balon: 2*10-10=10Hoster charges Balon, Son charges random M&A: 2#5d6k3+3 18 181 DoS vs Balon, so no damage. 2*10-7=13 on M&A, he's gone, so should be 33 total damage to M&A and one casualty. Alpha/Bravo morale: 2#4d6k3 6 11Alpha Routed, Bravo fine. Extra die on Alpha/Bravo: 2#1d6 2 2So they do 17 and 20, which is 2*6-7=5 and 3*6-7=11 Resolved against Hoster and Son, the attacks are: 3*5-7=8 2*6-7=5 3*6-7=11 So Hoster and Son are down. Their freeriders take 8+5+11=24 damage total, twice their maximum and routed. Erryk charges Freerider: 4d6k3+3 14 2*12-7= defeated, Freeriders now taken 34 damage, still just routed. Morale for loss of commander: 5d6k2 7 Critical Failure: Annihilated. Brothers charges Erryk, Freerider: 2#5d6k3+3 20 183*10-7=Dead Erryk 2*10-4=16, Alpha suffers loss of 10 HP. Alpha morale: 4d6k2 9 Alpha Destroyed because Morale drops. Brother 1 pulling out lance (aim if succeed on first go): 2#3d6 9 14 Aim on lesser #2 Brother #2 charges Bravo Freerider: 5d6k3+3 1210-4=6, still alive. Freerider hits back: 4d6k3 12 No damage. Charge and aim+attack: 6d6k3+3 15 7d6k4+1 182*10-4=Dead Freerider 2*5-4=6=Dead Freerider 20 damage, Bravo is routed. R4: Brothers aim+attack: 2#6d6k4+1 23 143*5-4=Dead Freerider. 2*5-4=6, still alive. 30 damage, Bravo is destroyed R5: Brothers charges Balon: 2#6d6k3+1 13 162x No damageBrothers initiavies: 2#3d6-3 9 8CD: 9, AR 7, Health 9, tertiaries. 5 Rounds of combat before next battle round...but at this point, there isn't any battle left to be had.

For expediency I am listing Balon's Men at Arms as Move/Attack HOWEVER if Charging is allowed it will be a charge and I'll drop one die. I state this here for timestamp reasons and to verify that charging is still not allowed due to fire/damage to town/etc. Per this post in my OOC timestamp thread that should change my Men at Arms to a Charge. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't change much. I'll get personal combat rolls up when I get to work.

The brothers puts up a valiant effort, but nothing to threaten Balon much. As the chaos subsides, he reckons that about half his men are dead or dying, and half of the remainder are either scattered in panic or in no condition to do much of anything for the time being. But he has enough men to do whatever he intends with the survivors, a huddled mass of women and children, including the girl he came for. Some of the squires and personal guard of Ser Hoster still draws breath as well. He could do the grim task himself, or set his men to perform the slaughter.
I'm assuming that the last one's fate is a foregone conclusion, you can roll more aim+reckless from him as needed until he dies. Warfare command TN 12 if Balon wants no survivors. Each additional DoS allows to pick one: Balon doesn't have to kill Marei himself (pleading her belly makes sellswords pause). Prevent the girls from being raped first. If Balon allows survivors, warfare (Command) TN 9 suffices to prevent raping, but he'll have to kill Marei himself in that case. Might as well go out with a bang: Aim+Reckless Attack: 3#8d6k5+1 16 23 24That would be another fatigue on that last one, presumably he's not going to get another chance. Survival rolls: Annhilation rolls: Freeriders/Militia: 8d6 30 4#16d6 58 42 43 50Erryk killed: 1 freerider, 7 Militia Balon killed: 8 Militia Result for freeriders: 0.3*5+1=2.5 Dead...so 3 alive, but one will bleed out if not attended to. Result for militia: (.58+.42+.43+.5)*5+15=More than 20...no survivors. Ravagers: M&A,2x Freeriders, Scouts: 3#16d6 58 54 19 1d6-2 4Correction, Bravo only destroyed:: 8d6 19Previously: 2-4-4-2 Knights killed: 1 M&A, 3 Freeriders. M&A: 5*.6+1=4, 1 survivor. Freeriders: 5*(.58+.23)+3=7, so 3 survivors. Scouts: 5*0.06=0.3...they survive.

He grabbed her by the arm and drug her away from the group. *Will stop here. Have a question in my OOC thread.

Balon's night attack on Riverthorn had been a success. The militia had been caught unaware and while the defenders were able to fight back it had been disjointed and they were quickly overwhelmed. Balon looked at the smoldering ruin of a burnt-out home. He remembered fighting near it, taking a man's head off as he exited through the door, awakened by the call to arms. Did he even know what happened? Balon wondered. No sooner had the man's head hit the ground than another militiaman speared Balon in the back. Fortunately the spear glanced off his plate and Balon turned and swung, removing the soldier's arm at the shoulder. A scream emerged from the soldier's mouth as he vainly clutched at his stump, desperate to stop the flow of blood. Balon galloped away as the man bled out.
During the lull between the battle with the militia and the burning of the keep Balon found himself asking what he was doing at Riverthorn. Am I just a pawn? A tool to be utilized until I break? He wanted Ser Daemon to be king but Daemon himself would never approve of Balon's actions. Don't all rulers need men in the shadows who are willing to do the dirty work? Balon tried convincing himself that knights who remain tight lipped and did their duty were rewarded. When this is all over I'll be the lord of Gyldenhaal. Maybe even more. I'll have something to give to Laena and our children. Gormon will be proud, Fireball too. I bet Titus will be so jealous. I'll have to get him a good marriage to ease his wounded pride. As dawn approached Balon knew the kin of Lord Gormon, the squire to Fireball, and friend to such important lords as Walgrave and Reynald wouldn't be casually discarded when the war was won.
When the fire pots were thrown Balon prepared his sellswords for the sally to come. "Standfast and let no one through. Our work is almost done."
Ser Walton. Ser Dagos. Lord Desmond. Ser Vorian. Soon to be Ser Hoster and his kin. Then after that Marei. What's one more body amongst the foundations?
Everything had gone according to plan until Ser Hoster led the sally. Balon's men dropped left and right and while the defenders fell it seemed like they took two for every one of them that died. Balon saw Ser Erryk die and lamented his loss. In the war to come he would've been a good asset to have. Erryk was the kind of knight that could help recruit men for underhanded work.
When Balon killed the last two Riverthorn knights the battle was officially over. He ordered the remaining freeriders to finish off any surviving defenders then had the scouts escort the surviving villagers to the sept. "Keep them quiet." He quickly added, "And no raping. I'll buy you all the finest whores when we get back."
As the villagers began to shuffle towards the sept Balon intercepted Marei, "Not you. You come with me." He grabbed her by the arm and dragged her away from the group. As they walked he didn't make eye contact, surely she knew why she'd been singled out. Not wanting to do the deed in front of witnesses Balon found a "quiet" place. "Do you know why I'm here?" Balon didn't care what her answer was. "I'm here to punish you." He paused and expected a confused look. "You're guilty of loving the wrong man." Balon sighed, treating this as a pseudo-confessional. "I'm loved by someone and people will admonish her for it. It's not fair you know. Punishing people for things we shouldn't punish them for." His grip on her remained iron tight. "But the sentence must be carried out regardless." Balon pulled out his dirk, "You should be thankful it's me. Most men would rape you first." Before she could answer he drove the blade into her side, piercing her lung. He clutched her tight and slowly laid her on the ground. "I'm sorry it had to be this way. Truly." He twisted the blade. "Shhhh, shhh, shhh. This will be over soon enough." Balon wondered if he'd be able to put this in the past. With her last breath drawn he kneeled over her and said a prayer to the Seven to watch over her spirit. She didn't deserve this. And now the ugly part.
Balon took his dirk and stabbed Marei several times in the stomach. A clear message to Lord Blackwood.

Marei does not seem to understand, just another girl who simply believed that love would conquer all, or just scared out of her wits. Hardly any older than Delia. She pleads and cries on account of both her own life and the little one growing inside of her.
Not killing all the prisoners doesn't get the S&B +1D, but still success. There's not a chivalry loss since only the first luck test would have to end up as a critical failure for that, since the rerolls produced a critfail before a success, what you get is the disposition hit and random rumor, but since Lord Rodrik learns of it. Fire Points to be credited with rumor release. Lord Rodrik ACCUSES!: 5d6k4+7 30Probably going to influence opinions about Balon in the wider world.
