Chronologically this scene is placed during "A toast..." but as we wanted to give the updated Intrigue rules and Benefits a spin we've agreed to use those. "My lady." Thaddeus Levalle appears seemingly out of nowhere just as another dance is called. "You move as fire made flesh! Beautiful and terrifying." Smiling, as always, he gracefully extends his hand. "Might a mere mortal be honoured with a dragon's dance?"
ID: 14 (Base 12 +3 Lordly Chiv -1 Inept) DR: 3 Composure: 15/15 Frustration: 0/4 Goal: Friendship Charming - Initiative v Lady Laena: 6d6k4-1 19 Charming - Free Action: Breeding(+1D Courteous) v Passive Will (Dedication): 7d6k5-1 25 - 2 DoS, I think? DR is affected as if Disposition was 4 steps higher. Attractive+Courteous is +3 to whatever base Disposition you find fitting.

Laena pauses a moment, just enough to give him the suspicion that she's about to decline him to his face, before accepting his hand. "You may, Ser." And lets him lead her into the dance. C&C - Initiative: 7d6k5 19...Errr. Tied in roll. Tied in number of Reputation specialties. That means we re-roll. C&C - Initiative - Reroll: 7d6k5 26 That is higher than you can roll, so I win initiative! C&C - Start of Intrigue - Deception (Act): 6d6k4+3 20 Assuming that's only 1 DoS. +1 to all passive results. Your result is actually 3 DoS, so +6 (pseudo) takes me to +9. Ow! Shouldn't your ID be 13? ID: 15 DR: 1 (This is gonna be a short Intrigue...) Composure: 11/11 Frustration: 0/4 Goal: Friendship C&C - R1 - Persuasion (Charm) - TN13: 6d6k4+3 17 ....Yup. It's clearly going to be *that* kind of Intrigue. 4-3=1 Composure damage. Edit: no, wait! I forgot the +1 from being Amiable! That means I hit 18! 2 DoS (if your numbers are right and your maths wrong), meaning 8-3 = 5 Composure damage!

"An honour." he bows as he takes her hand. "I must offer you my apologies though, my lady. When you graced our little corner of the map I was unfortunately away. I had some business to attend for Lord Reynald and could not return until after you had left us again. Regretful. I assume you were well treated and wanted for nothing? Malyk does love to entertain. I think he has a soft-spot for you especially, mind."His footwork is smooth and confident. Just assertive enough to lead the dragon whilst making no pretence of commanding it. He's good, but no Lord Alliser - nor an Ashara.
Yeah... math was right but numbers wrong. Base ID is 12 (Cunning 4, Awareness 4, Status 4). So 14 should be correct. Updated original post. Sorry. Deception roll is 1 DoS v Passive Awareness (Empathy) 17 yeah. D: 14 (Base 12 +3 Lordly Chiv -1 Inept) DR: 3 Composure: 14/15 Frustration: 0/4 Goal: Friendship R1 - Charm (Talanted, Attractive, Lordly Chiv, Amiable) v Lady Laena: 7d6r1k4+5 26 - 3 DoS x 4 = 12-1 = 11 influence dealt. Wow. Ok.

[Okay. I did 1 damage, and you just 1-shot me. I could take frustration, but that won't actually change the end result. It's clear my build isn't actually working, and I need to reconsider. I wasn't expecting to *win*, but that is just pathetic.]

[We've agreed to restart the Intrigue, with me testing out a slightly different Benefit combo, to see if the fault is due to me not properly 'getting' how the updated system works, or if I'm just *that* outclassed. We're putting it here, so others can see how the new Intrigue changes work.] ID: 13 DR: 3 (For now...) Composure: 11/11 Frustration: 0/4 Goal: Friendship [Note: for the purposes of this test Intrigue, I have Courteous, increasing base disposition by +1] C&C - Initiative2: 7d6k5+1 25 Again, that's higher than you can roll, so I have initiative. C&C - SoI2 - Status (Breeding) +1D: 9d6k6+1 20 ...Whelp! Roll 9, Keep 6, +1, and I still only hit 1 DoS. So, that's +2 pseudo-Disposition. Should still be enough to bump me to Friendly, at least. C&C - R1 (2nd try) - Persuasion (Charm): 6d6k4+4 18 1 DoS, for (4-2=)2 Composure damage. No, wait! I forgot the +1 for being Amiable again! 19! 2 DoS! 6 Composure damage! Edit: Fun fact! Of that last 15 die I rolled, 6 were 1's 3 were 2's, and 0 were 6's. This is not helping me get a good measure of my competence.

[No, I swapped Inept (Status) for Inept (Will), which is why I only have 11 Composure and you're rolling vs TN15.] 1 DoS, meaning pseudo-disposition of Friendly, DR2, so 10 composure damage taken. ID: 13 DR: 2 Composure: 1/11 Frustration: 0/4 C&C - Round 2 (2nd try) - Persuasion (Charm) - TN14: 6d6k4+4 14 ....Oh, good grief! 6 die rolled, and I get 4 1's and a 2. I forgot the +1 disposition bonus again, so it's 15, but that doesn't make a difference. For the running total, of my last 21 dice, 10 were 1's, 4 were 2s, and only 1 was a 6. It's official. Orokos hates me. To counter that, for the 14 dice of your 2 Influence rolls, 7 have been 5+, and 0 have been 1. Anyway, 1 DoS for 2 Composure damage.

Gotcha, that makes more sense! ID: 14 (Base 12 +3 Lordly Chiv -1 Inept) DR: 2 (Breeding bumped to Friendly) Composure: 7/15 Frustration: 0/4 R2- Charm v Laena: 7d6r1k4+5 24 - 3 DoS for another 10. Bare in mind that this is in many ways what Thad is designed around, with a Master template. And as you say I’m getting pretty lucky rolls and you aren’t. Different circumstances and techniques you might have me on?

Take 3 Frustration. Let's see if I can get just one semi-not-terrible roll in this intrigue. ID: 7 DR: 2 Composure: 3/11 Frustration: 3/4 C&C - C&C - Round 3 (2nd try) - Persuasion (Charm) - TN14: 6d6k4+5 19 Nope. 2 DoS for 6 Composure damage. I don't even manage to push you to take Frustration. For analysis: Me: R1: 18.7% of rolling that badly or worse R2: 2.2% of rolling that badly or worse R3: 18.7% of rolling that badly or worse You: I realise now *why* you rolled no 1's! It's because you (correctly, I believe) set it to re-roll all 1's (even on re-rolls) because of Attractive, so of *course* you don't have any! R1: ~40% R2: ~70% So, actually, your rolls, while fairly lucky, are not exceptional. Mine *are* exceptionally bad. With non-terrible rolls, I likely would at least be able to push you before losing. This has been helpful. I'll resume the RP part of the thread tomorrow. It's late now. Mechanically, as agreed via message, you get +2 disposition as I still lost dramatically.

He's good, but no Lord Alliser - nor an Ashara. "Your father apologised on your behalf while I was there, but your direct apology is appreciated and accepted." A mock put-upon sigh and a small shake of her head. "As much as I disagree on your priorities. A lone widow whose only ties are to a family whose lands are more likely to be found by tossing a dart at a map of the Reach than by deliberate pointing is clearly *much* more important than your father's liege lord." A smirk at her own words belies them. "But to answer your question, your house's hospitality was impeccable. And I had a ... I hesitate to use the term - it sounds too much like hyperbole - but it's quite possibly accurate to say that I had a 'life changing' evening with my brother. The details will remain a secret among dragons, but he took me on something of a tour of the Tear, meeting all kinds of people who I wouldn't ordinarily meet, and I feel like I learned a lot. Both about who my brother is, but also about who I *could be*. "I remember it fondly still. Be sure to mention that next time you meet him. "And what of you? Was the business that kept you from the glory, majesty and pleasure of my company at least successful?" A quirk of her mouth reveals her excessive self-flattery to be not entirely serious. "Given your reputation, I would assume so."

”Given my reputation? My lady is a worse flatterer than I am, but I’ll take it.” he chuckles softly, turning them to the music. Neither his hands nor his eyes it seems, seek to travel south past modesty. ”Alas, the burden of duty is that not only does one miss out on the glory, majesty and pleasure of lone widows whose only ties are to a family whose lands are more likely to be found by tossing a dart at a map of the Reach than by deliberate pointing, one does so for unimaginable boring reasons.” The reasons for visiting Brightwater most likely were of a tedious, administrative reason but in these times and with houses such as Levalle and Florent, who could guess?
”I’m very glad to hear! And whilst I must confess no little amount of curiosity on what passed, I’ve already gathered from Malyk that it is categorically none of my business. One of the reason my father values him so highly is his ability to keep a secret, so unless you plotted to have us all murdered, I fear I will never know what transpired between the dragons. He taught me to play the fiddle, did you know?”
Another turn and a snickering laughter breaks out in the hall as a couple of Riverland nobles, clearly having enjoyed to much hippocritas, stumble and fall on the change of the beat.
”Nothing people enjoy more than watching one fall on ones face.” he whispers mischievously, ”What’s the saying? It is not enough that I succeed, all others must fail!”

To be honest, I'm not sure what would where Malyk is concerned. Are you good? I can't imagine you have much time to practice." Another turn and a snickering laughter breaks out in the hall as a couple of Riverland nobles, clearly having enjoyed to much hippocritas, stumble and fall on the change of the beat. ”Nothing people enjoy more than watching one fall on ones face.” he whispers mischievously, ”What’s the saying? It is not enough that I succeed, all others must fail!”Laena slowly nods. "I have heard that saying, though I disagree with it. If you need everyone else to outright fail to feel like you have succeeded, then you have not succeeded well enough. If you are the only one to succeed, then even 'barely competent' can seem 'outstanding'. Small, petty objectives for small, petty people." She seems to be directing her contempt towards the laughers in general than her dance partner.

”Or, I say he taught me but I picked it up years before him, yet he is the one teaching me still. I’m not bad, good enough to please, but he is better. It’s one of his odd little talents, of which there are quite a few. Finding time for beauty, as he puts it, is another. A good one to learn.”
He smiles to her response. ”Very good, my lady! Very good. The joust would be of little enjoyment if all knights but one fell out their saddles before breaking a single lance. Part of the sweetness of victory is having bested those who one, or others, might have thought to be ones betters.”

Part of the sweetness of victory is having bested those who one, or others, might have thought to be ones betters.”A firm smile and nod. "Exactly, Ser. Well said." "So, given the famous - or possibly infamous - Levalle information gathering and cunning, are you willing to make any predictions for this tourney? On the jousting field or off?" She asks with a sly smile.
Yeah, it's a bit of a cheat to ask you for predictions after so much stuff has already happened OOC, but given that it's just for 'bragging rights', I figure it doesn't really matter.

”The usual, I imagine. An iridescent tourmaline of shining gallantry and black-hearted evil. The Great Lords moving in the open and shadows alike to prepare for the storm to come.” he states flatly with a roll of his eyes. ”And us lessers jockeying for the scraps.” added with a smile.
”But guessing that doesn’t require a famous... or infamous web of information, no. I do have great hopes for your friend Ser Roland Cordwayner. Him AND your full-brother has left a big impression on the tourney scene, I hear. With them, along with Redtusk, Old Lord Willem and Lord Marq, the champion is bound to be of the Reach. A few clever bets could make a man... or woman, very well off.” No son of Alliser Levalle would be in need of additional coin, but perhaps it was just the enjoyment of thinking oneself smarter than others that Thaddeus cherished.
”Septon Abelar has apparently been seen on the road to Whitewalls and where the good Septon goes, controversy is sure to follow.”
