"People say a great many things" Marq observes. "I find that Ser Orton is among those rare few who guards their tongue as well as most other ought to, he knows a great deal, I think, but he will not state a thing as true unless he is absolutely certain that he is not wrong, I find that I oft must ask him what he believes to be true, he is usually not wrong"

"An admirable defense of your man. But per'aps my ears misheard, because I did not hear you say whether Ser Orton opined on the subject."

"It is not my place to speak for him, my dear septon, though I dare say that Lady Cordwayner have much to fear should Lord Ilyn find the courage to act the part his title implies"

"Well, my lord, where does the truth lie then? You say it is not your place to speak for Ser Orton, yet you hint that he knows a great deal and Lady Cordwayner should be afeared of Lord Ilyn living up to his title." Abelar rubs his nose, which has begun to itch in the heat. "Surely, you have heard that I denounced Maegelle before Gods and men not long ago. Any further proofs--staunch witnesses like Ser Orton among them--would be beneficial to my cause."

"I would say that calling upon Lord Cordwayner himself would be your best chance of a true testimony, septon" Marq shrugs. "Ser Orton will not lie for your cause, and stating that he believes something to be true only to then state that he has no way of truly knowing will make a poor witness to bring forth.

"I see, my lord. Thank you for your time." He nods politely to Daena, not caring to address a bastard.

If the good septon had a mind to visit Hammerhaal or catch Lord Cordwayner at some other function, he would come to find himself thwarted by the news of his passing. The new Lord Cordwayner would surely be disinclined to welcome him, and besides, to what end? Only Normyn and Maegelle appears to be the only living souls with any true knowledge, and they would surely meet any query with denial, regardless of what the truth may be.
