Mikel watched quietly. He was as surprised as anybody else at the outcome, and as he spun into consideration of what he saw the cries of outrage and pointed opinions were nothing more then background noise to him. Ser Rennifer was a Blackguard no doubt, but he was just in a fight for his life twice over. Either he may have died in the fight, or may as well have died as he was like to loose his sword hand for failing and he probably didn't have much to offer without it. Killing Daemon's horse was smart, it was unexpected and put Daemon on foot while Rennifer stayed mounted. It went as well as could be hoped for. There was more to Rennifer than amorality, and knowing that somebody like him was highly skilled and intelligent at least in regards to combat turned Mikel's stomach. He hoped after this somebody would find Ser Rennifer - indeed Lord Merryweather and all his men - dead in a ditch before making it back to Longtable.

Seven hells!
Rennifer -- Parmen refused to think of him as Ser -- had been found not guilty. Ser Daemon Blackfyre was injured and his aura of invincibility shattered. The King had proven that even the cleverest men can be fools and that wisdom and weakness can be two sides of the same coin. Lord Eldon was no doubt emboldened to entertain even greater acts of depravity. At least Ser Daemon didn’t appear to have been critically injured or maimed during the duel.
“The Gods have spoken, it appears. Half the lords of the realm did not actually see Rennifer do what their eyes saw him do last night.”
“The Gods might have decided to sit that one out. Or maybe they wanted to show that even dragons need to beware of desperate men.” Ser Robyn’s voice was deadpan, neither approving nor disapproving. If anything it showed a slight respect for the false knight’s resourcefulness.
Parmen turned back to the field where his brother Roland was assisting Ser Daemon off the field to where a maester was waiting. Those two are the best knights the Seven Kingdoms have to offer. If they can’t bring justice to Longtable then who can?
Parmen turned back to Ser Robyn. Despite their differences in upbringing the two Levalle knights had always managed to get along well enough.
“Lord Alliser is hoping to marry Ellyn to Lord Eldon. If he is successful in doing so I think it would be good to ensure that Rennifer is in no position to hurt or threaten my good-sister. And I’m guessing, Ser, that you feel similarly.” The common-born knight had always been fond of Ellyn.
Ser Robyn’s face never gave away what he was thinking but Parmen fancied he could hear the man’s teeth grinding together. “What do you have in mind?” No empty courtesies from him.
“To wait and watch for an opportunity to protect the family that we both serve.”
Blackguards like Rennifer thought that honorable knights would always be vulnerable to his special brand of brutality and treachery. Parmen hoped that Rennifer was that naïve. Resourceful. Resilient. Resolute. House Levalle's words to deal with a problem in a House Levalle way.

Politics be damned, this is a matter of right and wrong.Ser Roland joined his Companion in raising his voice. The Seven's holy verdict had been perverted by a blackguard's trick. "Ser Rennifer wronged a whole house, a whole kingdom. Our King should have permitted a trial of Seven to allow all the wronged parties to represent themselves. Such knavish tricks would not prevail in such a contest, given the full sight of the Seven upon it." Well, the sight of the Seven and the roll call of champion likely to compete to stand alongside Blackfyre relative to the greedy dross Ser Rennifer could scavenge. "The gods are not to be mocked in such a manner, and House Starling does not forget. We have not had our chance at justice that a trial of Seven would have allowed Kingsbridge. Justice is deferred and delayed, but we will not be denied." [P2] Sights of Gods & Men - Convince crowd alongside Daeron TN9: 3d6+2 13
