[Carried over from here - greatbastards.boards.net/thread/905/phase-1-glory-lists-event?page=2&scrollTo=19998]When Trystane hears about who he'll be facing, he puts on a façade of calm and casual optimism, but inside, he feels a heavy stone of dread drop into his stomach. Oh well, you got further than you thought you would. Don't let them think you're afraid. Even if he knocks you off at the first pass, treat it like you didn't care about winning. Don't think about the fact that you don't have nearly enough to pay ransom if you lose.
He steadies his horse opposite Ser Roland Redwyne, flips his visor down, and takes a long, slow breath to steel himself. Fuck it. Here goes nothing.
Passive Ride: 18 (Using Defensive at 2 so 20 for this pass) Base To Hit: 5d6k4+4 Damage: 8 (ANH +3 +2 Charge +2 Destrier) / DoS Stay In Saddle: 6d6k4+2 Catch Your Breath: 4d6k4 AR: 10 (Fitted Full Plate) HP: 12/12 GITL Final vs Redtusk: Pass 1 - Fighting, SiS, CYB - Defensive (2), Eyes Fixed, Noble: 5d6k4+3 12 6d6k4+2 21 4d6k4 17
[This is my first time working out these stats and rolling a joust, so I may have messed it up.]

As far as the Reachmen are concerned, this lucky Dornish upstart (he probably cheated his way to the final, that's what Dornish do, he is also a bastard, so twice deceitful) is about to be completely outmatched, Ser Roland Redwyne eats Dornishmen for breakfast, he doesn't even need a lance to unhorse Dornishmen the more exaggerated claims goes. He can do it with his trophy boar tusk. One hand tied behind the back. Both hands tied behind the back, he can hold it with his teeth. Not everyone gets quite as carried away, but one would be hard pressed to find anyone believing the victor will be anyone other than Redtusk.

So let's see: 1. Tourney Knight adds +2 to Passive Ride and to Fighting tests (not to stay in saddle tests), making your PR 20. With 4D+2B in lances and 4D AH, you get: -1b from training penalty: 5k4 -1D from Charging 5k3 +2 from Tourney Knigth 5k3+2 +4 from Animal Handling Rank 5k3+6 +1 from Eyes Fixed 5k3+7
Stay in Saddle would be 19 (not having the +2) Defensive would reduce it to 5k3+5 and PR 22 (Defensive is -X fighting for +X PR) making your actual jousting result a 13, or 15 if you're happy with PR 20. In either event, he gets in 2 DoS for neglible damage (1 after AR which CyB takes care of) and a stay in saddle TN of 14 (which you make), and both 13 and 15 are clean misses, so no broken lance for you (and since broken lances is what counts, after unhorsing, you probably will need to throw him out of the saddle to win).
Ordinarily, you don't get to see what he rolls before deciding on a technique.

Ok. Thanks for looking at this. I hadn't understood about the techniques when I first posted, or I'd have declared them at the time. Sorry about that.

So, would Aggressive (3), Eyes Fixed, Noble be 5k3+10 for Fighting? What would that do then to SiS? I take it CYB is the same?
I'm asking on the assumption that if I do better in the Fighting roll and manage to also stay in the saddle, that's a better chance of unhorsing him.

[OOC: 1) You'd be +3 Aggressive 3, +1 Fixed Fixed, +4 Animal Handling 4 and +2 Tourney Knight = 5d6k3+10. 2) Your own stay in saddle roll is unchanged, but the TN you're rolling against is likely to be tougher as Aggressive 3 lowers your passive ride meaning your opponent may achieve more degrees of success. 3) Catch your breath roll is indeed unchanged, correct. 4) A better fighting roll does indeed make it easier to unhorse your opponent: 1 degree of success forces a TN 9 Animal Handling (Ride) to stay in the saddle, with a further 3 added to the TN for each additional DoS up to 4 (so checks go 9/12/15/18). Noble then adds a further 1 to the TN for each DoS you achieve, so with Noble you'd effectively force checks against 10/14/18/22. See here for more: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/230/rules-joust and hope this helps!]

Trystane is surprised to make the first pass without being knocked on his arse, but the clearly superior skill and force of his opponent makes him sure that his luck won't last. And now, with one unbroken lance, he needs to try and make a decisive win or risk losing in the most dull way possible. And Trystane hates dullness. Catching his breath and rounding Bard for another charge, he switches tactics, going for a more aggressive charge, though maintaining focus and decorum as best he can. He can't give anyone ammunition to accuse him of being underhand, not when a good chunk of the crowd already hates him and wants Redtusk to kill him. Right, let's end this quickly, whichever way it goes. No guts, no glory.
When both knights are ready, Trystane spurs on the destrier and charges.

This time, Ser Trystane lands a solid hit, but not one that looks to bother a horseman of Redtusk's ability. The crowd favorite attempts something rather more elaborate to show off his skill, it would surely have worked unhorsed an ordinary jouster in spectacular fashion, but while Ser Trystane is no ordinary jouster, the blow remains potent enough to force him out of balance all the same. Show-off, High in Saddle: 7d6k4+7 25 7d6k4-2 20 6d6k4 16That's a 2 DoS hit for TN 12 SiS, I don't think you should have -1 to that test, but a 10 is still not good enough to keep your seat. Show-Off doesn't deal any damage.

For the briefest moment, Trystane thinks he has managed a second pass, but the impact leaves him unsteady in the saddle, and it's only a matter of a wobbly fraction of a second before gravity snatches him and pulls him off his horse. He lands flat on his back, mercifully unharmed, and after a brief moment to catch his breath, clambers to his feet.
Lifting his visor, he turns and looks to the victor, extending a gauntleted hand.
"Well done, Ser!" he praises Redtusk with genuine cheer.

The crowds cheers as Redtusk finally puts the Dornishman in his proper place, defeated in the dust. A small consolation for other having to stomach other proper Reacher knights suffering the ignominy of being bested by one such as he. But again, it was likely due to Dornish Treachery, so it really must have been the tourney master to blame, once for allowing a Dornish Bastard to enter, twice for not watching him closely enough. No amount of cheating could make up for the difference in ability between Redtusk and even the best Dornishman.
Redtusk himself does not seem to share that sentiment, readily returning the complement with one about how such words carries higher weight from the mouth of one as daring and skilled as Ser Trystane.

"Let's drink to your victory later, Ser. First round's mine," Trystane adds, giving the Reachman a friendly clap on the arm before heading off to shed his armour and arrange the payment of his ransom money.

Oh, Trystane will be paying all right, for all the drinks. After all, it will be covered by the ransom Trystane owes him, Redtusk quips. Throwing in a little friendly jab that he hopes his competitor lasts longer than two rounds this time.
Optional drink off: Both make an Endurance(Resilience) test at TN 9, passing out on a critical failure, repeat the procedure with +3 TN each time until one drops under the table. -Not knocked out by the time he makes his first failure: +1 Disposition. -Drink him under the table or last through the TN 21 test: +1 Disposition.

"A challenge I cannot resist!" Trystane laughs. Later on, he and Redtusk while away some time over drinks, exchanging banter and knocking back strong liquor. At first, Trystane steers clear of anything vaguely political, and while drink has a tendency to make him run his mouth, by the time he's halfway in his cups, he's too distracted and merry to be bothered addressing any serious matter anyway. "Gods, is this what you normally drink?!" he exclaims as he regains composure from necking a glass of bitingly strong booze that tastes like the floor of a barn. "I reckon that could strip the paint off a shield!" he half laughs, half coughs. ...2 drinks later..."Let's drink them two at a time!" ... 4 drinks later... "I thought I was going to die. It was great!" ... 5 drinks later... "Whassiss?... With a what in it?" Trystane slurs, inspecting the newest drink put in front of him that he doesn't recognise, swaying a little in his seat as some musicians start playing. ... 3 verses later... The singing grows ever more boisterous. "Bring us in no capon's flesh, for that is often dear, Nor bring us in no duck's flesh, for they slobber in the mere; But bring us in good ale, good ale, and bring us in good ale, For our blessed Lady's sake, bring us in good ale!" Having enjoyed an evening of carousing with him, Redtusk moves in Trystane's mind from intimidating adversary to intimidating acquaintance. A happy accident if ever there was one. [OOC: Please feel free to read the little interjections in that comedy French accent off Spongebob Squarepants] Drinking with Redtusk - Endurance (Resilience) TN9: 4d6k4 12 (pass) Drinking with Redtusk - Endurance (Resilience) TN12: 4d6k4 13 (pass) Drinking with Redtusk - Endurance (Resilience) TN15: 4d6k4 12 (simple fail) Drinking with Redtusk - Endurance (Resilience) TN18: 4d6k4 14 (simple fail) Drinking with Redtusk - Endurance (Resilience) TN21: 4d6k4 21 (pass) Lasted through TN21 test (albeit very drunk) +1 Disposition with Redtusk

The re-match ends in a draw after too many rounds to count with everyone else having joined in on this contest clearly outmatched by now. Redtusk could pay for them all, he could buy all the ale in the tavern with just a sliver of his ransoms today, and every crispy chicken in the room besides. 5xresilience, 9-12-15-18-21: 5#6d6k4 12 17 15 16 20He fails at the TN 18 and Trystane is still up, so +2 total.
